After a record loses its significance, supersede it with another record. For example, supersede a record containing the personal details of employees for December 2006 with a record for April 2007. Or supersede a record with another record of the latest version of the same document. When a supersede association is established between the superseded and superseding records, each contains a navigable link to the other.
Superseding a record does not limit access to it.
While declaring a record, you can indicate that this new record is superseding an existing record.
To supersede a record during declaration:
Before you finish declaring an unclassified record, you can click Change Value to modify your selection. This action opens a window where you can click Remove Object to clear the field or Select Object to choose another record. If you are declaring a classified record, click Supersedes to change the value or Clear to remove it.
If you declare a new record and do not choose the Supersedes option, you can specify later that it is superseding an older record.
