IBM® Enterprise
Records supports
automatically generating default names for entities, based on a naming
pattern. In addition, you can configure an incremental number as a
volume name suffix.
Naming patterns
A
naming pattern specifies rules used to automatically generate names
when new entities are added to a file plan.
- You specify patterns for record categories and record folders
at particular levels in the file plan.
- For records, you specify the pattern in its parent container.
- After associating the naming pattern with the file plan, new categories,
folders, and records automatically get a name. This name matches the
next available name for the entity type and level in the file plan.
However, in the traditional IBM Enterprise
Records user
interface, the user creating the entity can still modify that default
name during or after the Add process.
- IBM Content
Navigator function:
In the IBM Content
Navigator user
interface, you can modify that default name only after the Add process.
You can go to the Info page of the record and change the name.
Volume name suffix
A
volume name suffix is an incremental number that acts as a suffix
in the volume name.
- The names of volumes are generated automatically.
- The volume name consists of the record folder name followed by
a hyphen (-), followed by the volume pattern suffix. For example,
if the name of a record folder is RFLegal and the Volume pattern suffix
is 00, the first volume name is RFLegal-01. If the incremental value
is 2, then the next new volume is named RFLegal-03.
- By default, the value of the suffix is "00000" and the incremental
value is 1.
