A file plan is a hierarchy of containers, including record
categories and subcategories, record folders, and volumes, that define
the organization of records. IBM® Enterprise
Records supports
one or more file plans per FPOS, and your site can have multiple FPOSs.
You see only one file plan hierarchy at a time in IBM Enterprise
Records.
- For a graphical representation of the hierarchy, see the records
management introduction topic.
- A file plan determines the security and disposition of records.
By default, child entities inherit the security and disposition schedule
of their parent container. For more information about security and
disposition inheritance, see the object security and disposition schedule
topics.
- A file plan can also have naming patterns associated with it.
All entities created under the file plan follow the naming pattern
rules you define for the file plan. For more information about naming pattern rules, see
the naming conventions topic.
- When a user initially accesses the application, the file plan
set as the default by a site preference displays. Each user can override
this default by setting a user preference. For more information, see
the default file plan topic.
- You can export a file plan to an external environment, like deployment
from a test to a production environment, using the File Plan Import Export tool.
For details about the File Plan Import Export tool, see the topic
about sing the tool.
