Installing the Process Engine clients

Install the Process Engine client software, either interactively or silently in order to have a complete IBM® Enterprise Records installation. This installation allows IBM Enterprise Records to work with Process Engine server. The Process Engine client software level must match that of Process Engine.

About this task

Log on as the same user that installed IBM Enterprise Records software to install the Process Engine client. You must install the Process Engine client files on servers that contain any of the following IBM Enterprise Records components:
Important: In the Process Engine client installation software wizard, you can have the client installation program create the EnterpriseRecords.war and EnterpriseRecords.ear deployment files. Choose not to have the client installation program create the deployment files. Later in this procedure, you run the IBM Enterprise Records Configuration Manager tool. In the tool, run the tasks in the Web Application Deployment profile to create and deploy the deployment files.

To install Process Engine client files:

  1. On the computer where IBM Enterprise Records is installed, log on as any user who has the following permissions:
    • Read and write permission to a temporary directory, such as temp, on the computer where IBM Enterprise Records is installed
    • Run permission on the Process Engine client installation program
    • Directory access as documented in Client installation directory access requirements.
  2. Copy the Process Engine client installation program from the Process Engine server installation program location to the temporary directory. The version of the installation software must match the version of Process Engine.

Important: Older versions of the Process Engine client installation program might not recognize newer IBM Enterprise Records installations. If the IBM Enterprise Records option is disabled, indicating that the client installation program did not find the existing IBM Enterprise Records installation, select the disabled instance of IBM Enterprise Records. On the next panel, you can select the IER_install_directory where you installed the IBM Enterprise Records component. After you select the path, complete the Client installation.

On some older patch levels of the Process Engine client installation programs, you cannot select the disabled instance of IBM Enterprise Records. In this case, use the Other installation option and follow the instructions in the Process Engine client installation software readme file.

    3. Copy the listener.jar file from PE_client_files_path\FileNet\RM\FilePlanImportExportTool\lib to ier_install_path\FilePlanImportExportTool\lib ier_install_path\RecordsManagerSweep\lib ier_install_path\RecordsManager\WEB-INF\lib ier_install_path\RMTransfer\lib
To install the Process Engine client files silently:
    1. Make a backup copy of the input file: PEClient_silent_install.txt
    2. Open the silent input file in a text editor. Follow the instructions in the silent input file to edit the file to reflect the appropriate responses for your update.
