MMC toolbar

Located next to the MMC menu bar, the toolbar provides icons that trigger actions you can apply to the currently selected node in the navigation tree or object displayed in the details pane.

The MMC toolbar displays icons that represent actions you can apply to the currently selected node in the navigation tree or object in the details pane. It also provides icons that activate standard MMC navigation functions.

Node-specific tasks appear only when they apply to the currently selected node. For example, the Delete icon appears on the toolbar only if you have selected a node in the navigation tree that you can remove, such as a user-defined object store. Additional icons not displayed below can also appear depending on which object type is selected.

The following table describes how the standard MMC navigation icons work when selecting nodes or objects in Enterprise Manager.

Left Arrow

Moves the selection back to the last object you selected in the navigation tree.

Right Arrow

Moves the selection forward again after returning back to the last object selected in the navigation tree.

Folder Up Icon

Moves the selection up a level in the navigation tree.

Show-Hide navigation pane icon Toggles the MMC console window between hiding and showing the navigation pane (left pane).
Delete icon

Deletes the selected node from the Content Engine navigation tree.

Properties icon Opens the property sheet for the selected node.
Refresh icon Refreshes the information shown under the selected node in Enterprise Manager. Use Refresh only as needed for your administrative actions.

For example, as you add new objects to an object store, you can view those objects on the local workstation without refreshing the object stores node. In this case, you need to refresh the object store only when an administrator on a remote workstation is making changes that you want to see.

However, if you create or modify classes and then attempt to add an object, such as a new document, a message reminds you to refresh the object store. In this case, you must refresh the object store to make the new or updated classes available for assigning to the new document.

Refreshing the display consumes resources and can slow down processing time. If you refresh the object stores node, it automatically logs you off the object store. When you expand the object store node, the system delays processing while it logs you back into the object store.
Text copy icon Copy the contents in the details pane to a text file on your system.
Help icon Opens help text related to the currently selected node.
Stop icon Disables the selected service or trace logging.
Start icon Enables the selected service or trace logging.
