Image Viewer provides two methods for adjusting the quality of the image displayed. The Enhance button changes the anti-aliasing mode for displaying black and white images. The Adjust button displays a toolbar for making an image brighter or darker.
The Enhance button cycles through five anti-aliasing modes that affect the quality of a black and white image. The Enhance mode has no effect on color images. Click the Enhance button (in the lower-left corner of the window) or press the letter 'e' to cycle through the five modes to find which is better for your image. The symbol in the center of the button indicates which mode is being used. Image Viewer remembers your last setting and will use it the next time you use the viewer.
Symbol | Mode | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Weighted | Produces a crisper image where text is being used. |
2 | Non-weighted | Is better suited to images that have diagrams. |
3 | Preserve black | Uses a preserve black algorithm, which can be useful for displaying fine lines. |
0 | Off | Anti-aliasing is disabled. |
+ | Automatic | In this mode, Image Viewer decides which algorithm best suits the image currently being displayed. |
The Adjust button displays an adjustment bar for changing the brightness of the image. The adjustment bar provides different options for black and white images than for color images. Clicking the Adjust button toggles the adjustment bar on or off.
Both adjustment bars work in a similar manner. Slide the tab up or down to change the level. To reset the tab to the default middle position, click the Reset icon at the top of the bar. You can move the slider one notch up or down by clicking in the groove above or below the tab. You can also use key commands to change these adjustment bars. Either click on the adjustment bar or tab to it. Then tap or hold the up or down arrow keys.

For black and white images, you can adjust the brightness. The Brightness adjustment bar interacts with the Enhance mode. For example, when using Enhance mode 3, the image must be viewed at 100% or greater before the slider affects the image in the main window. You can make it lighter, but not darker. If the slider is at the top of the bar, the image will be completely white. Using other enhance modes gives different results. |

For a color image, the Luminance adjustment, Contrast
adjustment,
and Brightness adjustment
bars are displayed. Adjust each bar as needed to make the image more usable. The Enhance mode has no effect on color images. |
