InfoSphere Enterprise Records, Version 4.5.1.3+

Upgrading InfoSphere Enterprise Records object stores from V3.7

Before you upgrade the Content Engine object stores, you must prepare the FileNet® Records Manager object stores for the upgrade by running the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade.exe tool. After you have enabled the object stores for the upgrade, then you can complete the Content Engine object store upgrade by running the Object Store Upgrader Tool.

Use a modified RMConfiguration.xml file and run the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade.exe executable before using Object Store Upgrader Tool.
Important: It is critical that you run the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade tool before upgrading the IBM® FileNet P8 Platform software if you are installing Content Engine 4.0 or later on the same system as your previous instance of Content Engine 3.5.

To prepare the IBM InfoSphere™ Enterprise Records object stores:

  1. Configure the InfoSphere Enterprise Records pre-upgrade tool.
    1. Verify that you have copied the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade directory to the Content Engine server as part of Copying the required configuration files: Path_on_CE_server\RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade
    2. Open RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade\RMConfiguration.xml for editing.
    3. Modify the node values in RMConfiguration.xml as described in the following table.
      Table 1. XML mapping table
      XML tag: Set to:
<UserName> Enter a fully qualified user name for an account that has object store administrator and Records Administrator privileges to each FPOS to upgrade.
<FilePlanObjectStoreName> Enter the name of the FPOS to upgrade.
Important: If the display name of the object store contains non-English characters, you must use the symbolic name of the object store.
      • To upgrade multiple FPOSs, add a <FilePlanObjectStoreName> tag for each FPOS.
      • If the same user does not have object store administrator and Records Administrator privileges to each FPOS that requires updating, run the data upgrade utility for each object store separately, using an appropriate account in each case.
<LogFileName> Enter the name and location of the log file where messages and errors will be written. The default path is Path_on_CE_server\RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade\Logs\RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade.log, where Path_on_CE_server is the path on the Content Engine where you copied the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade folder.
    4. Save and close the RMConfiguration.xml file.
  2. Enable the File Plan Object Stores for upgrade.
    1. Run RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade.exe from the RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade folder that you copied as part of Copying the required configuration files.
Important: You must run this application on the Content Engine 3.5 server.

The RM37PreContentEngineUpgrade utility loads the file RMConfiguration.xml, displays all of its configuration values, and prompts you for a user password.

    2. Enter the password for the user you entered in the <UserName> tag above.

If authentication to one FPOS fails, the utility will continue to upgrade the remaining FPOSs. After all of the FPOSs have been upgraded, the utility will show success/failure messages and ask the user to click Enter to exit. You can see detailed information or errors in the log file identified in the <LogFileName> tag of the RMConfiguration.xml file.

  3. Run the Content Engine Object Store Upgrader Tool.

After enabling the FPOS object stores for InfoSphere Enterprise Records 4.5.1 you must upgrade the IBM FileNet P8 Platform to version 4.0 or later. Once the IBM FileNet P8 Platform has been upgraded, you need to continue running the Content Engine Object Store Upgrader Tool. Run the Content Engine Object Store Upgrader Tool to update all InfoSphere Enterprise Records object stores to V4.0, V4.5, or V4.5.1 release level.
