Retrieving documents

You can retrieve documents only by way of the Image Services system if the catalog data is stored on the Image Services system.

Document content that originally entered Content Federation Services for Image Services by way of Content Engine is cataloged only on the Content Engine server. You can always retrieve documents by way of the Content Engine server because the catalog data is always stored there.

Content-based Retrieval

Document content-based search and retrieval works only on documents that entered the Content Federation Services for Image Services system on the Content Engine system but not on documents whose index properties were exported from the Image Services system to the Content Engine system.

Export and Import

If document content that originally entered Content Federation Services for Image Services by way of the Image Services system and is cataloged on both the Content Engine and Image Services systems is exported and later imported into another object store, it loses its Image Services catalog information and is treated as though it had originally entered Content Federation Services for Image Services by way of Content Engine.

Versioning

If you create a version of a federated document, the new version is treated as though it were originally a Content Engine document. And like native Content Engine documents, annotations associated with the earlier version are not carried forward to the new version.
