Creating a fixed storage area

A fixed storage area consists of a staging area and a fixed content device.

To create a fixed storage area

  1. Configure the device.
Create and configure the fixed content device by using tools supplied by the software vendor. You are responsible for the necessary installation, network connectivity, and administration to make a fixed content device available to the servers in the FileNet P8 domain.
  2. Configure a connection to the device.
Run the Create a Fixed Content Device wizard in Enterprise Manager to configure the connection to the fixed content device. For information about creating this configuration object to represent the device, see the How to task topics for a topic specific to your vendor. If no such topic exists, see Creating a fixed content device object.
  3. Prepare staging area.
Create the base and root directories for the staging area. For information about these directories, see the File storage areas. (The staging area has the same structure as a file storage area.)
  4. Create storage area.
Run the Create a Storage Area wizard in Enterprise Manager to create a storage area that uses one of your configured devices. For information about the creation procedure, see Create a storage area. Multiple fixed storage areas can use the same fixed content device. The fixed storage area can be for any object store in the FileNet P8 domain.
