Select the size parameters of the storage area
Configure various parameters that determine or affect the size of the storage area. You can specify thresholds at which Content Engine no longer accepts content in the storage area. When the thresholds are exceeded, the resource status of the storage area indicates that the storage area is full. You can also specify how files are deleted and whether duplicate content is suppressed.
- Directory Structure
- Select the size of the storage area structure. Select Large to create a typical file storage area. Select Small to create a small file storage area, for example, a file storage area to be used in a small development environment. This setting cannot be changed after the storage area is created.
- Small structures consist of two levels of directories, each with 23 nodes at each level for a total of 529 directories at the second level. Content is stored only at the second level, never in the first-level directories. Performance does not appreciably degrade on Windows NFTS file systems as the number of files increases. For UNIX file storage areas on network access devices (NAS), however, the number of files per directory does matter. As a rule of thumb, limit a small file storage area on such a device to no more than 1,000,000 files, or about 2,000 files per directory.
- Large structures extend the small structure with a third level of 23 nodes, for a total of 12,167 directories at the third level. Content is stored only at the third level.
- Maximum Size
- Identifies the maximum space in megabytes to reserve for the storage area. This setting marks the maximum combined size of all content elements in the storage area. For example, if maximum size is set to 5000 MB, the storage area does not accept new content elements until the total size is reduced below this maximum level.
By default, this value is set to 5000. You cannot specify a new value that is smaller than the current size.
- Maximum Number of Elements
- Identifies the maximum number of content elements allowed in the storage area. For example, if maximum size is set to 2500, the storage area does not accept new content elements until the total number of content elements is reduced below this maximum level.
By default, this value is set to 2500. You cannot specify a new value that is less than the current number of elements.
- Delete Method
- Specifies the method used when removing content element files from the storage area. Available options are as follows:
- Standard: Deletes the file.
- Destructive: Fills the file with zeros, then deletes the file.
- Purge: Writes over the file three times with various patterns, then deletes the file.
- Suppress Duplicate Content Elements
- If selected, Content Engine checks the storage area for duplicate content. Incoming content is not added to the storage area if identical content exists in the storage area; only unique content is added. The default is false. Consider setting this property to true for high-volume content ingestion, such as when archiving e-mail messages to a Content Engine object store. See Suppress duplicate content elements for more information about this feature.
