Content storage
The term content refers to the files that users check into the object store and associate with document and annotation objects. Each file constitutes a content element for an object. Content Engine uses the following main components to facilitate content storage:
- Storage area
A storage area is a place where Content Engine stores content. There are three types of such places: database, file, and fixed.
- Storage policy
A storage policy is a list of storage areas that Content Engine uses when determining which specific storage area to use for the content of a particular object (such as a document). For documents in the same version series, Cotent Engine assigns the same storage area or same storage policy. For the first document in the series, Content Engine assigns a storage area or a storage policy in the following order of precedence:
- The storage area that you set on the document programmatically when creating the document.
- The storage policy that you set on the document programmatically when creating the document.
- The default storage area that you set for the class of the document. This class might be the Document class itself or some Document subclass.
- The default storage policy that you set (or that has been set) for the class of the document.
- Content cache area
A content cache area is a local storage area for documents frequently accessed over a LAN.
- Content Consistency Checker
The Content Consistency Checker is a software component that detects inconsistencies between the metadata in the object store database and the content files in associated storage areas.
For more information on content files, see Document content. For information on how documents form a version series, see About versioning.
