Content Federation Services for IBM Content Manager OnDemand overview
The integration of IBM Content Manager OnDemand (CMOD) and IBM FileNet Content Federation Services (CFS) consists of two tasks:
- Export CMOD fields and values, and a document reference identifier, as XML.
- Import the XML as a document object residing in the IBM FileNet P8 system.
For information about the export and import tasks, see the The export and import process.
Before you can export and import the CMOD data xml, you must complete these tasks:
Benefits
Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand provides the following benefits:
- Direct access to existing Content Manager OnDemand documents from Workplace and any
application built on the FileNet P8 Platform. This direct access provides many benefits,
including use of the cataloging capabilities provided by FileNet P8 Content
Manager, access to Content Manager OnDemand documents within FileNet P8 Business Process
Management applications, and the use of IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records to manage
the lifecycle of Content Manager OnDemand documents.
- Existing documents remain in Content Manager OnDemand. There is no need to export,
convert, or modify existing documents, which is a cost benefit and ensures that document
integrity is maintained.
- Continued use of all existing applications that load documents into Content Manager OnDemand systems. There is no need to incur the cost of rewriting these applications
to take advantage of the FileNet P8 capabilities.
- Use of Content Engine to store Content Manager OnDemand document metadata, allowing users to view OnDemand documents through FileNet P8 applications such as Workplace XT.
- A mechanism for cataloging Content Manager OnDemand documents in Content Engine. The
connections between Content Engine and Content Manager OnDemand systems tolerate network
outages and system restarts on either side of the connection.
Capabilities
Content Federation Services for Content Manager OnDemand enables FileNet P8 applications
and servers to communicate and work with each other and Content Manager OnDemand. You can initiate work through the applications of either system.
For example, you can capture documents in Content Manager OnDemand, send the document metadata
to Content Engine, and view the documents through a compatible viewer or a FileNet P8 Platform application such as Workplace XT.
NOTE You can view OnDemand documents from Workplace XT, but not from Workplace. In Workplace XT, access to OnDemand content is limited to viewing and the Download action menu is disabled. In Workplace, there is no support for viewing OnDemand documents. The Download option in Workplace is enabled for OnDemand documents, but the download will not contain a fully formatted OnDemand document.
