Managing index areas and indexes
Create and manage index areas for an object store to distribute index information across multiple file systems for scalability purposes. Also, partition indexes to potentially improve full-text search performance.
- Index areas and indexes
- An index area is a file system directory that contains index files. Each index contains indexing information for the objects that belong to the same indexable base class or to subclasses of the base class.
- Index partitions
- Index partitioning is the grouping of object index information into separate indexes based on object property values.
- Index partitioning by date range
- Date partitioned indexes have an associated range of date values for the partition property of the objects indexed.
- Index partititioning by string value
- String partitioned indexes have an associated value for the string partition property of the objects indexed.
- Adding an index area
- Add more index areas to an object store to distribute index information across file systems.
- Changing the status of an index
- Change the status of an index to
OPEN
or CLOSED
to control index use.
- Changing the status of an index area
- Change the status of an index area to
OPEN
, STANDBY
, or CLOSED
to control index area use.
- Configuring index partitions
- Group objects in separate indexes based on the value of an object property to potentially improve full-text search performance.
- Deleting an unused index
- Delete an unused index and the associated index configuration files when necessary. Usually, IBM® Content Search Services deletes empty indexes automatically.
- Listing the index areas
- List the index areas for an object store to view the status and other property values for each index area.
- Removing an index area
- Remove an index area from an object store if you decide that the remaining index areas are sufficient.
- Setting the maximum number of indexes for an index area
- Set the maximum number of indexes for an index area to control index area use.
- Setting the maximum size for an index
- Set the maximum size for an index based on either the file size of the index or the number of objects indexed.
- Working with index area properties
- Access the properties for an index area to configure the index area and the indexes that are contained in the index area.
