Deleting a record deletes the document that was declared as a record. The record metadata is typically deleted at the same time, but you can also retain the record metadata. You would want to retain the record metadata to export it to an XML file and then delete the record metadata later. To retain the metadata, the file plan must be so configured. Refer to Configure retaining metadata.
A record is destroyed when it reaches the end of its retention period and is disposed of by the system. If necessary, a records administrator can delete a record manually.
According to DoD standards, a Records Manager is also authorized to delete a record. According to PRO standards, the Records Manager is not allowed to delete any record from the object store.
