Installing the Content Engine Client files silently

The command line method provides a way to silently install the Content Engine Client files. You can use the values in your installation worksheet to edit the silent input text file before you run the installation.

Be sure that you have available the Installation and Upgrade Worksheet that was completed during your planning activities.

Important: Be sure that Content Engine is running before you start installing Content Engine Client files.
To install the Content Engine Client files silently:
  1. Open your completed Installation and Upgrade Worksheet file.
Tip: In the worksheet file, verify that the Data > Filter > AutoFilter command is enabled. To view only Content Engine values, filter by CE Client Installer in the Installation or Configuration Program column.
  2. On the machine where Application Engine is installed, log on as any user who has the following permissions:
    • Read and write permission to a temporary directory, such as temp (Windows®) or tmp (UNIX®), on the machine where Application Engine is installed
    • Execute permission on the Content Engine Client install software
  3. Verify that there is a current backup of the Application Engine.
  4. Copy the Content Engine Client installation software from the Content Engine installation software to the temporary directory. The version of the client installation software must match the version of Content Engine.
  5. Expand the compressed Content Engine Client installation software file in the temporary directory.
  6. Close all instances of Workplace and any other Application Engine client applications. From the application server administrative console, stop and undeploy Application Engine.
    Option Description
WebSphere® Application Server Stop and undeploy the Application Engine Web application.
Oracle WebLogic Server Stop and undeploy the Application Engine Web application.
JBoss Application Server Run the shutdown command.
  7. (WebLogic Server only) Manually delete the following application server cache directories and substitute your domain name in place of mydomain:
    Option Description
    WebLogic Server on UNIX

    /opt/bea/user_projects/domains/mydomain/servers/AdminServer/tmp/_WL_user/app_engine

    /opt/ bea/user_projects/domains/mydomain/servers/.wlnotdelete

    /opt/bea/user_projects/domains/mydomain/servers/AdminServer/cache/EJBCompilerCache

    WebLogic Server on Windows

    C:\bea\user_projects\domains\mydomain\servers\AdminServer\tmp\_WL_user\app_engine

    C:\bea\user_projects\domains\mydomain\servers\.wlnotdelete

    C:\bea\user_projects\domains\mydomain\servers\AdminServer\cache\EJBCompilerCache

  8. Make a backup copy of the CEClient_silent_install.txt input file in the temporary directory.
  9. Open the silent input file in a text editor. Follow the instructions in the silent input file to edit the file to reflect the appropriate responses for your update.
  10. Navigate to the temporary directory path containing the Content Engine Client installation program.
  11. Start the installation program by running one of the following commands:
    Operating System Install Program
    AIX 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-AIX.BIN -f path/CECLIENT.AIX/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    HPUX 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-HPUX.BIN -f path/CEClient.HPUX/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    HPUXi 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-HPUXI.BIN -f path/CEClient.HPUXI/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    Linux 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-LINUX.BIN -f path/CEClient.Linux/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    Solaris 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-SOL.BIN -f path/CEClient.Solaris/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    Windows 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-WIN.EXE -f path\CEClient.Windows\CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
    Linux on System z 5.0.0-P8CE-CLIENT-ZLINUX.BIN -f path/CEClient.zLinux/CEClient_silent_install.txt -i silent
  12. When the installation completes, check the Content Engine Client log file for errors. The path to the log file depends on the type of operating system on the machine where you installed the Content Engine Client files:
Operating System Path to Log File
    UNIX /opt/IBM/FileNet/CEClient/ceclient_install_log_5_0.txt
    Windows C:\Program Files\IBM\FileNet\CEClient\ceclient_install_log_5_0.txt
