Content Engine is designed to support the development of client applications with a rich set of features. The Content Java™ and .NET APIs provide developers with a code base for building a diverse set of applications. Besides providing Java and .NET as programming platforms via traditional APIs, Content Engine also supports Web services programming via the Content Engine Web Service (CEWS). However, in most cases you should use either the Java or .NET API rather than CEWS when writing your client applications. The FileNet P8 Platform provides support for Web folders enabled by the WebDAV protocol. A read-only Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) provider is intended primarily for use with independent software vendor reporting tools. See FileNet P8 WebDAV Servlet for more information.
Existing Java client applications are still supported via the portions of Content Java API that are compatible with prior releases.
