FileNet P8 Process Engine, Version 5.0.+            Operating systems:  AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Linux on System z, Solaris

Upgrading the Process Engine software silently (UNIX)

Take the following steps to silently upgrade Process Engine.

Install the Process Engine software and optionally configure the software to automatically start.
  1. Open your completed Installation and Upgrade Worksheet file.
Tip: In the worksheet file, verify that the Data > Filter > AutoFilter command is enabled. To view only Process Engine values, filter by PE Installer in the Installation or Configuration Program column.
  2. Log on to the Process Engine server as the pe_install_user.
  3. Edit the pe_silent_install.txt file to reflect the appropriate responses for your installation. All passwords in the response file must be encrypted.
  4. Save the edited response file to your temporary directory.
  5. Navigate to the temporary directory on the local disk.
  6. From the console, launch the appropriate 5.0.0-P8PE-platform.bin installation program.
    Platform Command
    AIX® 5.0.0-P8PE-AIX.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
    HPUX 5.0.0-P8PE-HPUX.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
    HPUXi 5.0.0-P8PE-HPUXI.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
    Linux 5.0.0-P8PE-LINUX.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
    Solaris 5.0.0-P8PE-SOL.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
    zLinux 5.0.0-P8PE-ZLINUX.BIN -f pe_silent_install.txt
  7. Check for the IBM_FileNet_Process_Engine_5.0.0_InstallLog.log file in the installation directory. The default installation directory is/opt/IBM/FileNet/ProcessEngine.
  8. Manually edit /etc/inittab to set the pemgr process to automatically start after a reboot. Process Task Manager will not start if the pemgr process is not already running. Log on as a user with permission to edit the /etc/inittab file and add the following entry to that file:
    PEMR:2345:wait:/opt/IBM/FileNet/ProcessEngine/runstartpemgr
where /opt/IBM/FileNet/ProcessEngine/ is the installation path for the Process Engine software.
  9. High availability farmed server environments In a farmed configuration, if you are on node one, make a copy of the installation_path/data/peseed.jar file. Copy the peseed.jar file from node 1 into the installation_path/data directory on every other node.
