Deleting an unused index

Delete an unused index and the associated index configuration files when necessary. The files for an index reside in a subdirectory of the index area root directory. Usually, IBM® Content Search Services deletes the index subdirectory automtically when the index is no longer used.

IMPORTANT Manually delete an index by following this procedure only if the index is no longer used by IBM Content Search Services. For more information, see Resolving index deletion failures.

To delete an unused index:

  1. Find the subdirectory of the index root directory that contains the index. The subdirectory has the same name as the index.
  2. Delete the index subdirectory.
  3. If the deletion attempt fails:
    1. Stop IBM Content Search Services servers. Stop all servers.
    2. Delete the index subdirectory. If the deletion attempt fails, wait a few minutes and attempt again. Repeat until the deletion attempt succeeds.
    3. Start IBM Content Search Services servers. Start all servers.
