FileNet P8 Application Engine, Version 5.0.+       Application server:  JBOSS Application Server

Deploying and starting Application Engine

After you install and configure Application Engine, you must deploy your client application, Workplace, on your JBoss Application Server.

  1. Stop the JBoss Application Server, if it is running.
  2. Deploy the Workplace application: To deploy from exploded directory
    1. On the JBoss Application Server, copy the /Workplace folder from:

      AE_install_path

      to:

      JBOSS_home/server/servername/deploy/

    2. Append the extension .war to the Workplace folder:

      JBOSS_home/server/servername/deploy/Workplace.war

To deploy from a WAR file

On the JBoss Application Server, copy the app_engine.war file from:

      AE_install_path/deploy

      to:

      JBOSS_home/server/servername/deploy/

To deploy from an EAR file

On the JBoss Application Server, copy the app_engine.ear file from:

      AE_install_path/deploy

      to:

      JBOSS_home/server/servername/deploy/

  3. Set permissions for the user running the application server.

If the user that will be running the application server is different from the user that installed Application Engine, you must give the user read/write permissions on the following folders:

    JBOSS_home/server/default/deploy/app_engine.war/ .ear

    AE_install_path

For Windows® this is only required for NTFS formatted partitions.

  4. High availability For high availability environments, configure JNDI lookup to connect to Content Engine and allow failover.
On each node, edit the run.bat or run.sh file to include the following, entered as a single line:
    -DFileNet.EJB.ContextProperties=java.naming.factory.initial=
    org.jboss.naming.NamingContextFactory
  5. Start the JBoss Application Server.
  6. Verify that the application deployed successfully.

Verify that the server.log file located in JBOSS_home/server/servername/log lists deployment of the WAR or EAR file you used.

  7. High availability In a high availability environment, by using the application server administration tool, verify that the Application Engine application is running.
    1. Open a Web browser and type in the URL for the Application Engine application.
      • If you are using a load-balancer or proxy server the URL has the form:
        Application Engine
        http://virtual_name:port_number/Workplace
      • If connecting to an individual cluster node the URL would have the form:
        Application Engine
        http://clustered_server_name:port_number/Workplace/
Sign-in by using the virtual name to properly set the base Application Engine URL. If it is not set correctly you must change it in Site Preferences.
    2. Verify that the sign-in page displays, and log in as a user.
    3. Fail one of the nodes.
    4. Verify that you can reload the sign-in page, and log in as the same user.
