Download File Tracker

File Tracker tracks a document on your local workstation after you check it out from an object store. This tracking feature allows the application to easily identify the document should you want to cancel the checkout, save or check in the document. Depending on your site preference settings, File Tracker can automatically delete a document from your local workstation once you add, save content or check in that document to an object store or if you cancel a checkout.

You must install File Tracker if you are using Workplace; however, if you are using Application Integration or Application Integration BCS, you do not need to install File Tracker. It is installed with either application. If you already have a previous version of File Tracker 3.5.x installed, see the Upgrade Application Integration and File Tracker section below.

NOTE  File Tracker requires Internet Explorer® 5.5 with Windows 2000 SP3 or later or Windows XP. ActiveX must be configured on Internet Explorer. File Tracker is not supported on Mozilla® Firefox® if you are using Workplace.

To download and install File Tracker

  1. Navigate to the Author page, General Tools view, and then scroll down and click Download File Tracker.
  2. You can open or run the installation program from its current location or save it locally to another location on your workstation.
  3. Accept the terms of the license agreement. If you do not accept the license agreement, you cannot continue with the installation.
  4. Do one of the following actions:
  5. Click Install. After the installation program is complete, finish the installation process.

Upgrade Application Integration and File Tracker

Upgrading to the most current version of Workplace Application Integration or File Tracker involves installing the new version on top of your existing Workplace applications. The upgrade installation program detects the earlier version and notifies you before proceeding with the upgrade.

During the upgrade, the installation program detects the Microsoft applications that were previously integrated with Workplace and retains that configuration.

Upgrade considerations

The procedures for upgrading Workplace Application Integration and File Tracker depend on which versions are currently installed on the client workstation. Use the table below to help you understand what needs to be considered when upgrading the applications.

Workplace Application Integration and File Tracker

Upgrading from Upgrading to Procedure

Workplace Application Integration version 3.5.1-001 or earlier.

Application Integration 4.0.x will install File Tracker for you.

Workplace Application Integration version 3.5.1-002 or higher.

Application Integration 4.0.x will install File Tracker for you if you had only Application Integration installed (without File Tracker).

If you installed File Tracker 3.5.1-002 or higher before you installed Application Integration...

You must first upgrade File Tracker before you upgrade Application Integration.

If you installed Application Integration 3.5.1-002 or higher, and later used File Tracker...

Application Integration and File Tracker 4.0.x

You only need to upgrade Application Integration.

To upgrade only File Tracker in Workplace

  1. Navigate to the Author page, General Tools view.
  2. Scroll down and click Download File Tracker .
  3. The File Download dialog box for your system appears. Do one of the following actions:
  4. If prompted, click Yes to upgrade to the current version you are installing or click No to end the installation.
  5. Click Finish to complete the installation program process.
