FileNet P8 Content Search Engine, Version 5.0.+            Operating systems:  AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Windows

Replicating a FileNet P8 domain

You replicate a FileNet® P8 domain to allow a less disruptive upgrade of a version 3.5.2 Content Engine installation.

The following steps assume that the default installation directory is C:\Program Files\FileNet\ContentEngine.
Important: If the production servers are in the FileNet P8 domain of the replica server and the replica server cannot be reached, the system looks for other registered version 3.5.2 object store services in production. To avoid unintended modifications to production data caused by version 3.5 clients running in the replica server environment, ensure that the replica system and its clients cannot view the production system. For example, you can disable the object store service and the file store service on the production system. (Stopping the production services and changing them to manual is not sufficient).

To replicate a FileNet P8 domain:

  1. Complete the required preparation steps in the FileNet P8 3.5.2 installation and upgrade documentation. These steps include installing and configuring a database client on the Windows system that acts as a replica Content Engine server.
  2. Using the FileNet P8 V3.5.2 Content Engine installation package, install Content Engine and FileNet Enterprise Manager. On the Content Engine Global Configuration Data window to create or join and existing domain, click Cancel.
  3. Create a sysconfig\sysinit directory under C:\Program Files\FileNet\Content Engine on the replica server.
  4. Copy the backup contents of the sysinit directory from the production Content Engine server to the corresponding directory on the replica Content Engine server.
  5. Set permissions on the new sysinit directory to match security on the source sysinit folder. Minimally, ensure that the local Administrators group and the Content Engine Servers group have Full Control.
  6. Create a share name for the new sysinit folder. Set the share name to FNCE_replicaServerName$ and set permissions to Full Control for Everyone.
  7. Run C:\Program Files\FileNet\Content Engine\ConfigGCD.EXE on the replica server to start the Global Configuration Data (GCD) wizard.
  8. After the wizard detects a copy of the domain configuration data on the replica server, click OK.
  9. Select Join Existing Domain, enter the name of the replica server, and click Next.
  10. To join the FileNet P8 domain, specify the following values:
    Property Value
    SYSINIT path \\replicaServerName\FNCE_replicaServerName$\sysinit.dat
P8 Domain Services Group Content Engine Servers
  11. Select the Use Default accounts option, specify the FNCE_newServerName account, enter a password to be assigned, and then click Finish.
  12. Install the latest version 3.5.2 fix packs by following all readme file instructions.
  13. In a command-line window, for each production system object store service server name, enter (on one line) and run the following command:
    C:\Program Files\FileNet\ContentEngine\Sysinitadd.exe /DELETE=ServerName
     [production_server_name]
  14. Restart the replica Content Engine server.
  15. Start the version 3.5. FileNet Enterprise Manager that is associated with the replica system and log in as an object store administrator.
  16. Verify that the server names for the production object store services are not under the Servers node. If they are under the Servers node, verify that the Sysinitadd.exe tool ran properly for all the production servers.
