InfoSphere Enterprise Records, Version 4.5.1.3+

Installing the Content Engine clients

You must install the Content Engine client software, either interactively or silently in order to have a complete IBM® InfoSphere™ Enterprise Records installation and enable IBM InfoSphere Enterprise Records to work with Content Engine. The Content Engine client software level must match that of the Content Engine.

You must install the Content Engine client software on all servers where InfoSphere Enterprise Records components have been installed:
Important: In the Content Engine Client Installer wizard, you have the option to have the client installer create the RecordsManager.ear and the RecordsManager.war deployment files. If you want to make custom changes to your InfoSphere Enterprise Records XML files after the wizard completes, choose not to have the client installer create the deployment files. You can manually create the deployment files using the create_records_manager_ear.bat (Windows) or create_records_manager_ear.sh (UNIX) file that is provided in the install_location/FileNet/RM/deploy directory. The create_records_manager_ear.bat or the create_records_manager_ear.sh file creates the RecordsManager.ear and the RecordsManager.war files.

To install Content Engine Client files:

  1. On the machine where InfoSphere Enterprise Records is installed, log on as any user who has the following permissions:
    • Read and write permission to a temporary directory, such as temp, on the machine where InfoSphere Enterprise Records is installed
    • Execute permission on the Content Engine Client installation software
    • Directory access as documented in Client installation directory access requirements.
  2. Copy the Content Engine Client installation software from the Content Engine installation software location to the temporary directory. The version of the installation software must match the version of Content Engine.
  3. Expand the Content Engine Client installation software within the temporary directory.
  4. Start the Content Engine client installation process.
    Option Description
To install the Content Engine Client files interactively:
    1. Access the IBM FileNet® Content Engine client installation software.
    2. Run the version of the IBM FileNet Content Engine client installer that is appropriate for your version of IBM FileNet Content Engine and platform.
    3. Select to run the client installer for your InfoSphere Enterprise Records installation.
Important: Older versions of the Content Engine client installer might not recognize newer InfoSphere Enterprise Records installations. If the InfoSphere Enterprise Records option is disabled, indicating that the client installer did not find the existing InfoSphere Enterprise Records installation, select the disabled instance of InfoSphere Enterprise Records. On the next panel, you can select the RM_installation_path where you installed the InfoSphere Enterprise Records component. After you select the path, complete the Client installation.

On some older patch levels of the Content Engine client installers, you cannot select the disabled instance of InfoSphere Enterprise Records. In this case, use the Other installation option and follow the instructions in the Content Engine client installer readme.

To install the Content Engine Client files silently:
    1. Make a back up copy of the input file: CEClient_silent_install.txt
    2. Open the silent input file in a text editor. Follow the instructions in the silent input file to edit the file to reflect the appropriate responses for your update.
Tip: Configure the client installer to update your InfoSphere Enterprise Records installation.
    3. Navigate to the path that contains the Content Engine Client installation program, and run the version of the IBM FileNet Content Engine client installer that is appropriate for your version of IBM FileNet Content Engine and platform.
