Workflow properties - General

On the General tab of the Workflow Properties dialog box, you specify the name for the workflow definition, the subject text that each participant will see when the workflow is running, and other general properties. In addition, you can base the current workflow on a previously defined workflow in order to inherit the submaps and other properties defined in the base workflow.

To specify the general properties of the workflow

  1. If necessary, from the Action menu, select Workflow Properties, and display the General tab.
  2. Base Workflow displays the name of the work class on which the current workflow definition is based. To create a workflow definition based on IBM FileNet default settings, leave WorkObjectEX as the base workflow.

Otherwise, to create a workflow definition based on some other previously defined workflow, click Modify and select an appropriate base workflow. See Select base workflow for details on selecting a base workflow. See About workflow inheritance for additional information.

NOTE  If workflow inheritance is disabled, you cannot chose another workflow as a base workflow. See Preferences - Workflow for information about showing or hiding inheritance functionality.

  3. In the Workflow Name field, enter a name for this workflow definition. The workflow name will display in the list of workflows transferred to Process Engine.

The name of a workflow definition must conform to the following rules:

Click Check Workflow Name to verify that the name you entered is unique.

  4. In the Subject field, enter a title that describes the workflow. The Subject text identifies the work item in a participant inbox when the workflow is running.
  5. In the Description field, you can optionally enter a description of the workflow. The text that you enter subsequently displays for the tracker.
  6. In the Deadline field, you can optionally enter a number and choose the units (minutes, hours, days, weeks) to specify a time limit for the workflow to be completed, if appropriate. To specify a reminder, specify an amount of time prior to the deadline expiration.

The deadline indicates an amount of time relative to the time that the workflow was launched. If a reminder is set, the tracker assigned for this workflow will receive a reminder of the pending deadline.

TIP Workflow participants do not receive notification of a workflow deadline. The tracker is notified if email notification is active. To enable workflow participants to receive notification of reminders and deadlines, specify deadlines and reminders for individual steps.
