Checklist: environment definition

Use this checklist to identify the tasks you need to perform to create or update the environment definition for a deployment.

Task Perform this task if:
Start FileNet Deployment Manager.
Create or select a deployment tree.
  • This is the first time you are using FileNet Deployment Manager.
  • You want to create a separate deployment tree for your application.
  • You have multiple deployment trees and you want to work in a different deployment tree.
SOURCE ENVIRONMENT
Ensure that the FileNet P8 domain is running. You intend to perform any of the following tasks:
  • Test the connection to the Content Engine server.
  • Extract the object store half map.
  • Extract the security principal half map from the LDAP server.
Create the environment definition for your source environment.

See Create or edit an environment definition.

You are using FileNet Deployment Manager to deploy your application.
Define or edit the connection to the Content Engine for your source environment.

See Define the connection to an environment.

  • This is the first time you are defining the source environment for your application.
  • Any of the following information has changed in the source environment:
    • Protocol used to connect to the source environment
    • Type of application server used for Content Engine
    • Server on which Content Engine resides
    • Communication port number for the application server
    • Relative path to the Web Service Interface endpoint for Content Engine
    • User name and password used to log on to the source environment
Extract the name and ID of each object store in the source environment to create or update the object store half map.

See Extract an object store half map.

  • This is the first time you are defining the source environment for your application.
  • Any of the following changes have occurred in the source environment:
    • A new object store was created.
    • An object store was deleted.
    • The name or ID of an object store has changed.
Export user and group data from the source environment to be used in the security principal half map.

See Extract a security principal half map.

Both of the following conditions are true:
  • The source and destination environments contain different users and groups.
  • You intend to populate the half map with user and group information contained in export files.

Do not perform this task if:

  • The source and destination environments contain the same users and groups.
  • You intend to populate the half map with the user and group information from the Content Engine LDAP provider.
Extract the user and group data from the source environment to create or update the security principal half map.

See Extract a security principal half map.

The source and destination environments have different users and groups and either of the following conditions are true:
  • This is the first time you are defining the source environment for your application.
  • Any of the following changes have occurred in the source environment:
    • A user or group was added that will be referenced in the exported data.
    • The name, SID, display name, or principal type of a user or group has changed.
DESTINATION ENVIRONMENT
Ensure that the FileNet P8 domain is running.
Ensure that there is at least one object store in the source environment. You intend to create an object store half map.
Create the environment definition for your destination environment.

See Create or edit an environment definition.

This is the first time you are using FileNet Deployment Manager to deploy your application.
Define or edit the connection to the Content Engine for your destination environment.

See Define the connection to an environment.

  • This is the first time you are defining the destination environment.
  • Any of the following information has changed in the destination environment:
    • Protocol used to connect to the destination environment
    • Application server used for Content Engine
    • Server on which Content Engine resides
    • Communication port number for the application server
    • Relative path to the Web Service Interface endpoint for Content Engine
    • User name and password used to log on to the destination environment
Extract the name and ID of each object store in the destination environment to create or update the object store half map.

See Extract an object store half map.

  • This is the first time you are defining the destination environment for your application.
  • Any of the following changes have occurred in the destination environment:
    • A new object store was created.
    • The name or ID of an object store has changed.
Export user and group data from the destination environment to be used in the security principal half map.

See Extract a security principal half map.

Both of the following conditions are true:
  • The source and destination environments contain different users and groups.
  • You intend to populate the half map with the user and group information contained in export files.

Do not perform this task if:

  • The source and destination environments contain the same users and groups.
  • You intend to populate the half map with the user and group information from the Content Engine LDAP provider.
Extract user and group data from the destination environment to create or update the security principal half map.

See Extract a security principal half map

The source and destination environments have different users and groups and either of the following conditions are true:
  • This is the first time you are defining the destination environment for your application.
  • Any of the following changes have occurred in the destination environment:
    • A new user or group was added that will be referenced in exported objects.
    • The name, SID, display name, or principal type of a user or group has changed.
SOURCE-DESTINATION PAIR
Identify the pair of environments to be used for a specific deployment. For example, you might create a source-destination pair for deploying your application from a development environment to a test environment.

See Create a source-destination pair.

Create or update the object store data map with the data from the object store half maps.

See Create or update an object store data map.

  • This is the first time you are defining a source-destination pair for this deployment.
  • The object store half map for the source or destination environment has changed.
Add labels in the object store half map to resolve unmapped entries in the object store data map.

See Edit labels in half maps .

The data map contains source object stores that are not mapped to destination object stores.
Create or update the security principal data maps with the data from the security principal half maps.

See Create or update a security principal data map.

The users and groups are different in the source and destination environments and:
  • This is the first time you are defining a source-destination pair for this deployment.
  • The security principal map for the source or destination environment has changed.
Add labels in the security principal data maps to resolve unmapped entries in the security principal data map.

See Edit labels in half maps.

The data map contains source security principals that are not mapped to destination security principals.
