Logon to a domain

After you have launched Enterprise Manager, you must still logon to the FileNet P8 domain. To logon to a domain you must first have a preconfigured connection string which supplies the Content Engine URL and domain account information required to access the domain. Enterprise Manager presents a dialog box which assists you in creating a properly formed connection string if one does not already exist.

To logon to a FileNet P8 domain (when no domain exists)

  1. Start Enterprise Manager.
  2. The Enterprise Manager logon dialog box displays the empty list of pre-configured domains.
  3. Click Add then fill out the required fields.
  4. Click OK to create a domain entry. Note that a domain GCD database does not yet exist for the domain. Only the domain connection information exists in this entry.
  5. Click Connect to access the domain. Since no domain exists, a dialog box displays a field where you can enter a name for the new domain.
  6. Once the name is entered, click Continue.
  7. Enterprise Manager creates the domain GCD and opens with the newly create domain in restricted mode. Ensure that you have defined enough connection pools for the GCD data source. Each GCD data source should have approximately 25 connection pools defined. See the FileNet P8 Platform Installation and Upgrade Guide for more information.

Restricted mode prevents an authenticated user from modifying anything other than the domain object. You cannot create any child objects (sites, object stores, marking sets, and so on) nor can you delete any objects. In addition, because Enterprise Manager is in restricted mode, much of the user interface is hidden.

After Enterprise Manager successfully logs on to the newly created domain, and only the domain node is displayed, you must configure the domain’s directory configurations by selecting the Directory Configuration tab on the domain property sheet.
  8. The Create a Directory Configuration wizard opens so that you can add a directory service. Complete the wizard. The domain is still in restricted mode at this point.
  9. The Configure new Domain Permissions wizard opens so you can add administrative users and groups to the domain.

Once complete, the domain is available in a non-restrictive mode.
