Content storage
The term "content storage" describes several Content Engine components,
each of which store contentthe files that represent the content
elements of document and annotation objects. See Document content for more information.
Content storage include the following storage area types:
- File storage areas - content storage in a
network location
- Fixed storage areas - file
storage areas that are associated with fixed content devices
- Database storage areas - using
the object store database for content storage
Additional Content Engine features which are integral components to content storage and retrieval include:
- Storage Policies - associating classes to physical storage locations
- Content cache areas
- optionally configured cache areas to improve content retrieval performance
Some notes about storage and system performance:
- By virtue of their design, fixed storage areas perform more slowly
than either file storage areas or database storage areas However, this overhead is
likely to be well known to those installations that require the features
of a fixed content device.
- Content stores can be indexed for content-based retrieval.
- Remember that the document's class specifies where the document's
content is stored.
- Also remember that your choices of storage will affect your backup
and restore procedures and planning.
