FileNet Deployment Manager must connect to Content Engine in the source and destination environments to obtain certain information. Therefore, when you define the connection for an environment, you must identify an account that has access to Content Engine by specifying the user name for the account. FileNet Deployment Manager saves the user name in the environment configuration file (EnvironmentConfig.xml).
To connect to the Content Engine, FileNet Deployment Manager also requires the password for the specified account. You have the option to save this password in the environment definition. To do so, you must first select the Allow passwords to be saved to disk (in encrypted format) option in the Preferences dialog box. For more information, see Set preferences.
If you choose to save the password, FileNet Deployment Manager encrypts the password using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) before entering it in the configuration file.
If the password is not in the configuration file, you are prompted to enter it the first time FileNet Deployment Manager needs to connect to Content Engine during the session. FileNet Deployment Manager retains the an AES-encrypted copy of the password in memory until you end the session, but does not record the password in any permanent file.
If you are using the command-line interface and the password is not in the configuration file, you must specify the password by using the -password
argument as shown in the following example:
DeploymentManager.exe –operation DeploymentOperation.xml –password bird123
