Configure all ad hoc queries (searches) for property values to operate in a case insensitive manner by selecting Force Case Insensitive Search on the Query tab of object store property sheets. Note that the opposite is not true: you cannot force case sensitive searches. If you clear the checkbox, searches operate in whatever is the configured behavior of the underlying database. Also, note that Force Case Insensitive Search has no effect on content-based searches.
To force case insensitive searches for an object store
Content Engine uses the LOWER function to lowercase all string column values used in query statements when Force Case Insensitive Search is checked. For Oracle databases, a function-based index is required to maximize the performance of the query. Create a function-based index that also uses the LOWER function on any required tables to achieve the most effective results. Other case-sensitive databases should provide similar indexes to achieve the highest level of performance for case-insensitive queries.
NOTE Selecting the Force Case Insensitive Search checkbox may also impact the performance of queries that utilize indexed string properties added by FileNet software. In order to minimize the performance impact of such queries, examine any indexes that contain string properties and replace them with indexes utilizing the LOWER function. Since excessive indexes may also degrade performance, examine the system workload and select only those string properties that require function-based indexes.
