Select the Superclass

Select from the list the class that will be the superclass of the class you are creating.

NOTE  This page appears only if you invoked the Create a Class wizard from the taskpad of the object store. If you invoke the Create a Class wizard from the context menu of an existing class, the wizard automatically assigns the selected class as the superclass of the newly created class.

All classes have a superclass object from which they inherit properties. Even a system default class such as the Document Class has a superclass. You can select a system default class or a user-defined class as the superclass. A subclass inherits properties and security settings from its super class.

A custom property cannot be removed from a class if the property was inherited from its super class. This fact may be important to a user when selecting the super class.

In addition to the names of available super classes within the object store that are updated each time you create a new document class, the list box contains the names of all the subclassable classes. The system default classes serve different functions. For example:
