Application Engine administrators can use access roles in site preferences to specify who can access Process applications and also who can use specific functionality within certain Process applications. The purpose is to protect the system configuration by providing specific administrative users access to administration and configuration applications, providing business analysts access to process design applications, and providing business users access to a process diagramming application.
Use the table to determine which access role you need to access the application you want to use. See Access roles preferences in the online help for Workplace.
What you want to do... | Access role and user group |
---|---|
Use Diagram mode in Process Designer to create diagrams of processes. | PWDiagram access role |
Use Design mode in Process Designer to create complete workflow definitions. Also use Diagram mode. | PWDesigner access role |
Transfer and launch workflows in Workplace, Workplace XT, and Process Designer. | PWDesigner access role |
Configure workflow system using Process Configuration Console and Configuration features in Process Designer. | PWConfiguration access role and Process Engine Configuration group or Process Engine Administration group |
Administer running workflows using Process Administrator and Administrator features in Process Designer | PWAdministrator access role and Process Engine Administration group |
Access running work items from Process Designer using Personal Work Manager | PWDesigner access role |
Import Visio drawings in Process Designer | P8BPMProcessDesignerEX access role |
Create simulations using Process Simulator and Simulation features in Process Designer | PSDesigner access role |
Run and manage simulation using Simulation Console and using Simulation Console features from Process Designer | PSConsole access role |
For example, to create full workflow definitions and be able to make configuration changes, such as creating new queues, you need to be a member of both PWDesigner access role and PWConfiguration access role, and be a member of the Process Engine Configuration group. With these access roles, you would not be able to access Process Administrator or Simulation features in Process Designer, or access the Process Administrator or Process Simulator applications from Workplace or Workplace XT.
