Manage configuration files

The following table lists the XML and properties files used to configure the Workplace and Workplace XT applications. Some files must be modified manually, whereas others can be changed through the application.

NOTE  A modified configuration file must be reloaded for the new settings to take affect. In most cases, you can simply reload the file from the application. However, for some modified files, you must restart the Web server on which the P8 client application is deployed.

Configuration file Description
Actions.xml

Defines the actions that are displayed in the selected object's Information page. See Customizing Actions on an Object in the Workplace Customization Guide.*

In some cases, a secondary Workplace XT page can display a list view control; in these cases, the context menu is controlled by this file. The actions displayed on the Workplace XT primary pages are controlled by the MenuActions.xml, below.

bootstrap.properties Defines Bootstrap values. These can be updated through the Bootstrap site preference page. See Bootstrap properties for more information about the file.
ClassFilter.xml Excludes classes from displaying in the wizards for adding or checking in documents. Exclusions are defined on a per object store basis for each object type (document, folder, custom object and so on). See Excluding Classes from User Selection in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
ConfigurableLabels.xml Configures common labels in the user interface, including system property names. An administrator can customize the default IBM-provided labels on a per-locale basis, eliminating the need to update resource bundles. See Customizing UI Labels in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
containericons.properties For container types, associates MIME types with icons. Container icons are mainly displayed on the navigation page in front of the folder path, in the folder list, or any other list that contains a folder icon. See Customizing Icons in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
content_redir.properties Configures redirections to custom or vendor applications based on content object types when the user attempts to open a file. See content_redir.properties File.
customobjecticons.properties Associates icons with different types of custom objects. By default, there is one image associated with custom objects. An administrator can create any number of custom object types and associate a distinctive image for each type. See Mapping Images to Custom Object Types in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
download_redir.properties Configures redirections for downloads. See download_redir.properties File.
icons.properties For content types, associates MIME types with icons. See Customizing Icons in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
InfoPages.xml Registers custom information pages. See Plugging In an Information Page or Properties View in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
log4j.properties Configures logging. See Configure logging.
MenuActions.xml (Workplace XT only) Contains the definitions of actions displayed in the context menu and multi-select menu for browse and search mode. An administrator can modify existing menu actions. See Customize Workplace XT Actions.
OutlookPropertyMappings.xml (Workplace XT only) Contains the Microsoft® Outlook properties mappings used when you add an Outlook e-mail message to an object store. See Configure Microsoft Outlook property mapping.
PagingConfiguration.xml Configures several paging-related options that appear in the tree view control and in list view presentations. See Configuring Paging in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
PolicyProcessors.xml Registers form processors (document or workflow). To override the default behavior of the out-of-the-box form processors, a developer would implement a new custom processor and register it in PolicyProcessors.xml. See Customizing IBM FileNet P8 eForms Processor Components in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
PrimaryViews.xml Registers primary views. Primary views are the links such as Browse and Search that appear to the left, at the top, or at the bottom of the application. An administrator can change the order of the views (Workplace only), hide or show views (Workplace only), and restrict access to views. See Primary Views Preferences.
PropertiesPage.xml Registers custom Property views in information pages. See Plugging In an Information Page or Properties View in the Workplace Customization Guide. Although the instructions refer to Workplace, they apply to Workplace XT as well.
SimpleSearch.xml Configures the search option check boxes in the Simple Search page. See Customizing Workplace Search Options in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
SitePreferencesPrimaryViews.xml Defines the views displayed in site preferences. The file can define custom views, define custom labels for each view, and can provide support for locale variations for multi-lingual support. For information on modifying SitePreferencesPrimaryViews.xml, see Customizing Primary Views for Site Preferences in the Workplace Customization Guide.*
SkinGen.properties (Workplace XT only) Configures the appearance of Workplace XT, such as the images and colors of the application's banner and menu bar. See Customize appearance.
SystemPropertiesView.xml Defines the system properties per object store that are exposed in the application user interface. For various object types, an administrator can select the properties to show in the user interface. This file is modified when an administrator updates the object store site preferences. See System Properties View Settings.

* Although the instructions in topics in the Workplace Customization Guide refer to Workplace, they apply to Workplace XT as well.
