Class properties (General tab)

NOTE  Not all parameters below appear for all classes.

Name and Description
For built-in classes created by the object store wizard: The class name, symbolic name, and description are not editable fields.

For classes created during customization of the object store: You can edit the fields containing the class name and description assigned when the class was created. The class name field contains up to 64 characters (upper or lower case letters, numbers, spaces, and symbols). The optional description can include information to explain the class. The class description field can be up to 255 characters.

Symbolic Name
The symbolic name used as a programmatic identifier. The Create a Class Wizard creates the symbolic name using the Name value, and removes any spaces, ensuring the first character is alpha (the rest of the name can be alphanumeric). You can change the Symbolic Name, but must also change any code using this value. The Symbolic Name must be unique to the FileNet P8 domain.
Parent Class
The class (sometimes also called superclass) from which this class has inherited its properties.
Immediate Subclasses
Classes that have derived their properties from this class.
Support Versioning
Select this box to make documents assigned to this class versionable. If you clear the box, new documents assigned to it are not versionable, while any documents assigned to the class when the box was checked remain versionable.

NOTE  Any changes made to versioning are not available to existing documents until the object store is refreshed. (Right-click the object store and select Refresh.) For client applications or Web servers, reconnect to the object store to apply changes to existing documents.

Compound Document
Select the checkbox to set the Compound Document State property on a document class so all new class instances are compound documents by default.
CBR Enabled
Select/clear the checkbox to enable/disable Content-based Retrieval (CBR) indexing for property definitions in this class.
Default Storage Area
The default storage area name assigned to this class. Use the listbox arrow to see other storage area names assigned to the object store, or to change the default storage area. Changes apply only to new class instances, not to existing instances.
Default Storage Policy
The default storage policy name assigned to this class. Use the listbox arrow on the to see other storage policy names assigned to the object store, or to change the default storage policy. Changes apply only to new class instances, not to existing instances.
Default Document Life Cycle Policy
The document life cycle policy name, if any was assigned to the class. Use the listbox arrow to see life cycle policy names created in the object store.
