Back up and restore storage area

Relocate the storage area by backing up the current storage area and then restoring it to the new location. After you have relocated the storage area, share the parent folder of the storage area folder. For example, if you relocate the storage area from C:\Marketing\FS_collateral to D:\New Marketing\FS_collateral (Windows) or /Marketing/FS_collateral to /New Marketing/FS_collateral (UNIX), where FS_collateral is the root storage area folder, create a share for the New Marketing folder.

CAUTION  Do not use XCOPY or Windows Explorer to move the storage area on a Windows-based server. Moving files with tools other than a backup and restore utility does not preserve the security settings on the files.

When you have restored the storage area to the new location, click Next. For more information on these procedures, see the steps below.

To back up and restore a storage area

  1. Back up the storage area.
  2. Restore the storage area to the new location.
  3. Set access permissions on the new parent folder for the storage area. Avoid placing overly restrictive access rights on this directory. For example, do not deny access to the Windows Service account (Content Engine servers group account). See About storage areas for a discussion of this security.
  4. Create a network share or a DFS share for the parent folder and set permissions on the share. A good rule of thumb is to use the default network share permissions (everyone full access) and allow the Shared directory permissions to control the actual access to the directory.
  5. Click Next to continue.
