Start and stop Search DesignerStarting Search DesignerTo start Search Designer, do one of the following:
NOTE The Primary Views preference can show or hide the Advanced Tools. Regardless of the preference setting, guest users cannot access Search Designer. See the Site Preferences help for more information on the Primary Views setting. Selecting Search Designer downloads a Java applet to your local disk. You will need to respond to two Security Warning dialog boxes that "grant the session" at least the first time. You can grant just one session or grant always so that you do not have to respond to the dialog boxes each time you start Search Designer. NOTE If you ever click Deny in response to the Java applet download, you will not be able to download it until you have closed all instances of your browser. Closing Search DesignerWe recommend that you get in the habit of always using File > Exit so you do not lose any work. After exiting Search Designer, close the browser window as directed. When you click File > Exit to close Search Designer, you might see a dialog that prompts you to save or cancel the current search. If you close the window using any other means, the program terminates immediately with no opportunity to save. If you were modifying a search, this can leave it in a checked-out state, and work you've done is not saved. To continue working with the search when you reopen Search Designer, see Assume a checkout. |
