Back up Content Engine configuration files

Should a Content Engine server fail, you must restore the software, either by reinstalling the software from the IBM FileNet P8 Platform installation disk or by restoring the server files from a complete server backup. Once restored, you can restore Content Engine's functionality to the state before the failure by restoring its configuration files.

What to back up

Content Engine is installed as an application on your application server. IBM recommends that you back up your application server according to the instructions of your application server vendor. Since application server configurations and directory structures vary from vendor to vendor, this topic only provides general information about how Content Engine interacts with the application server. Use the following table to determine the actual files to back up.

NOTE  Where the Windows and UNIX paths are identical except for the separators, the Windows format is used.

Application server configuration files

Content Engine interacts with the application server files in these areas:

  • Configuring the authentication provider
  • Configuring JDBC data sources and connection pools

Infrequent

/

You can recreate the configuration files.

Consult your application server documentation to determine the location of these configuration files.

Content Engine EAR file

WebLogic: <WebLogic_domain_directory>\Engine-wl.ear

WebSphere: <CE_installation_directory>\ContentEngine\lib\Engine-ws.ear

If not backed up, you can reinstall Content Engine and reconfigure these properties.

The Content Engine EAR file contains the CEMPBoot.properties file, which tells Content Engine how to connect to the GCD database and which account to run the Content Engine application under. If necessary, you can edit these properties using the Bootstrap Configuration Utility.
