Getting started with Process Configuration Console

Scope pane

The items in the left pane (scope pane) represent the items you can manage using Process Configuration Console: a Process system (also called a VWService—rosa in the illustration below), and the isolated region (region1) with its queues, rosters, event logs, and Application Spaces. See Understanding the configuration hierarchy for additional information.

NOTE  When you first access Process Configuration Console, the various items under the isolated region are not accessible until you connect to the isolated region. See Connect to isolated region for instructions. If the isolated region has not been initialized, the various queues and other items do not exist, so many actions are not available. See Initialize isolated region for more information.

Process Engine VWService (rosa in the illustration) represents the Process Engine server (or a load balancer in the case of farmed Process Engine servers) accessible from Workplace. You set system-wide options in the VWService properties including enabling add-on products such as Process Analyzer or Rules processing, and specifying various runtime options.
Isolated region

The isolated region (region9 in the illustration) represents a logical subdivision of the Process Engine database. You can have more than one isolated region in the Process Engine database, but only one is accessible for workflow processing from each Workplace site. See Multiple Process Engines and multiple isolated regions for more information.

Work Queues User-defined queues that hold work items for processing by a workflow participant with access to the queue or by an automated process. In the illustration above, Claims and Reviews are user-defined queues.
Component Queues Queue for work items to be processed by an external entity, such as a Java™ operation or a Java Message Service (JMS) operation.

CE_Operations are programmatic processors that act on objects stored in an object store, such as retrieving and setting properties of a stored document. The initialization process creates CE_Operations.

User Queues

Each user on the system sees his or her work in the Inbox.

Tracker items appear in the user's Tracker queue.

The initialization process creates Inbox and Tracker queues.

Workflow Roster A database table that stores information about all running workflows for use by Process Engine and workflow administrators. The initialization process creates DefaultRoster.
Event Logs A database table that records the occurrence of certain system-level events related to work item processing, such as when a work item is created. The initialization process creates DefaultEventLog.
Application Spaces An organizational container for the resources used in an IBM ECM Widgets application or other application.

Contents pane

When you select a node in the scope pane, the contents of your selection display in the contents pane. If your selection is a folder, the folder contents display. If your selection is an object, the contents pane is empty.

Pending changes pane

The bottom right pane displays changes that have not been committed to the Process Engine database. To save your changes you specifically select Commit Changes on the Action menu. See Commit changes for more information.

Performing an action

To perform an action, you usually select an object in the scope pane, such as the isolated region or a queue and do one of the following:
