You can use folders to help organize the objects in your object stores. You can review and modify any of these settings. You can add a folder in Workplace and Workplace XT, move a folder, delete a folder, and create a link to a folder. You can also manage folders from integrated Office applications using Application Integration BCS.
The Information pages associated with individual folders provide properties, security, link, and history information.
To display information pages for a folder
The actions you can perform appear beneath the information links or in the folder's pop-up menu.
NOTE Creating a large number of folders at any given level can impact system performance. For example, opening a folder with a large number of objects can take a long time for the page to display. Your site administrator determines the maximum number of folders to display in Workplace. If there are more folders than the maximum value, those objects are not displayed. Instead you will see a warning message about the additional objects and you can search and retrieve those objects.
Depending on your access rights, you can set the following preferences for folder-related behavior:
You can move a folder from one location to another in the same object store.
TIP In Workplace XT and integrated Office applications using Application Integration BCS, you can drag a folder to another location.
To move a folder
When you delete a folder, the folder is completely removed from the object store, but the objects in the folder are not deleted. You can still browse to objects that have been filed in other folders as well as the deleted folder. However, objects that are not filed elsewhere will only be accessible by searching.
CAUTION You cannot undo the delete action, and an administrator cannot recover the deleted folder.
To delete a folder
You can use links to organize your folders in an object store. Before you can link objects, you must first create a link using the Create Link wizard, and then associate or reference one object to another. The Create Link feature is available from an object's Information page. The Link Object icon represents a link object. It appears next to the Create Link option on an action menu.
Refer to Work with link objects for more information on using this feature.
