Change the Rendition Engine database password

This topic does not apply to the DITA Rendition Engine.

The password for the user account used by the Rendition Engine to access the database might have to change from time to time, for example to accommodate for scheduled password changes. When this happens, in addition to the user password change performed for the SQL Login user (Microsoft SQL Server) or VISTAUSER (Oracle), you must also configure the Rendition Engine to use the new password.

Rendition Engine passwords that might need to change:

To change the RE database password

  1. Log in to the RE server as <FNRE_Admin>.
  2. Start the Domain Manager.
  3. Select the Configuration tab.
  4. In the right pane, select the Repositories tab and note if more than one COM repository has been configured for the Vista domain.
    NOTE  Each additional Rendition Engine added to the Vista domain constitutes a COM repository. If more than one repository has been configured you must share the database folder during reconfiguration. See below.
  5. Right-click Domain and choose Properties. The Domain Properties dialog box opens.
  6. Select the Database tab.
  7. Under Database Type, choose MS Access.
    NOTE  In this step, select a database type you are not using in your environment.
  8. From the Machine dropdown, select your local server.
  9. Click Test Database. A dialog stating that the database test was successful appears.
  10. Click OK to close the dialog.
  11. If there are multiple COM repositories in the Vista domain, click Share Folder to share the MS Access database folder.
  12. Click OK to close the Domain Properties dialog box.
  13. When prompted, click Yes to confirm that you want to change to the MS Access database.
  14. Choose File > Save to save your changes.
  15. Click Yes in the confirmation screen.
  16. Click OK to acknowledge the saved settings. Domain Manager Error dialog box appears with the error message:
    “Unable to successfully access a repository in this domain. Some functionality will not be available.”
    This error does not affect the functionality and can be ignored.
  17. Change the RE database password for your original SQL Server or Oracle database using the appropriate tools.
  18. In the Configuration tab, right-click Domain and choose Properties. The Domain Properties dialog opens.
  19. Select the Database tab.
  20. Under Database Type, choose SQL Server/MSDE or Oracle 9/10 as appropriate.
    NOTE  In this step, select the database type you are using in your environment.
  21. In the Password field type in the new password.
  22. Click Test Database. A dialog box stating that the database test was successful appears.
  23. Click OK on the Domain Properties dialog box.
  24. When prompted, click Yes to confirm that you want to change to the SQL Server or Oracle database.
  25. Choose File > Save to save your changes.
  26. Click Yes in the confirmation screen.
  27. Click OK to acknowledge the saved settings. Domain Manager Error dialog box appears with the error message:
    “Unable to successfully access a repository in this domain. Some functionality will not be available.”
    This error does not affect the functionality and can be ignored.
