Content cache store properties (Configuration tab)

The content cache store property sheet's Configuration tab shows the storage capacity available on the local server for the content cache. It also allows you to determine whether the Content Cache Service should purge the cache each time the server restarts.

For details on how these parameters affect content caching, see Limits for content caching.

To help you determine the most appropriate configuration for your server group, see Managing content cache areas.

Maximum size
Identifies how much space to reserve for content cache. When the content stored in cache exceeds this limit, the Content Cache Service removes the document with the oldest access time. This makes room for more recently accessed content.

This setting marks center between the low and high levels used for content cache size. For example, if maximum size is set to 500, the content cache can consume 525 MB space before it removes documents from cache. When the Content Cache Service removes documents from cache, it reduces the cache size—perhaps to 475.

By default, this is set to 500 MB. To change the existing size, type in the desired value in megabytes.

Maximum number of files
Identifies how many files are allowed in content cache. When the number of files in cache exceeds this limit, the Content Cache Service removes the document with the oldest access time. This makes room for more recently accessed content.

This setting marks center between the low and high number of documents allowed in cache at the same time. For example, if maximum number of files is set to 1000, the actual file count can grow beyond that—maybe to 1050. When the Content Cache Service removes documents from cache, it reduces the number of documents below that—perhaps to 950.

By default, this is set to 2500. To change the current setting, type in the desired number of files you want allowed in the file store.

Purge cache each time on startup
A selected Purge cache each time on startup check box specifies that the content cache store must clear all documents from cache each time the Content Cache Service starts up. Otherwise cached content will remain in the cache subject to any maxima set for size or number of files.
