Draw transparent text
The Draw Transparent Text tool adds a
text annotation with a transparent background to the image. If the image
is a color image, the background will be white instead of transparent.
Usually this text tool is more appropriate for short comments of a few
words. Sticky note annotations accommodate
longer text messages in a separate window. You cannot specify a font for
the text, so there is no way to enter characters from picture (dingbat)
fonts such as Webdings.
The following examples show a red transparent text annotation. Note
that the details of the image can be seen between the letters of the text
annotation.

To add transparent text
- Click the Draw Transparent Text button.
- Click on the image where you want the text to begin.
- Type your text.
- Click anywhere outside of the text area, or click the Fix button in the annotation's toolbar.
To change the text size
- Click the Change Text Size buttons
to change the size of the text. For images at 300 DPI or higher, text
annotations might be too small to read at the default size.
To change the text color
- Click the Line Color button to open the Color Picker.
- Select the desired color from the Color Picker.
- Click OK to save the color changes.
To change the fill color
- Click the Fill Color button to open the Color Picker.
- Select the desired color from the Color Picker. To make the fill completely
transparent, click the X instead of a specific color.
- Click OK to save the color changes.
To edit the text
- Select the annotation. The cursor is positioned wherever you click.
- To insert text, move the cursor with the arrow keys, and begin typing.
- To select and change text, move the cursor to one end of the text
you want to change. Then hold down the Shift key while using the arrow
key to highlight characters you want to replace. Press the Delete key,
or type over the existing text.
- To enter special characters in Windows, do the following steps:
- Start Character Map. Do one of the following actions:
- Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.
- Click Start > Run. Type Charmap in the Open field, and click OK.
- Enter the characters into the Windows Character Map, and copy them
to the clipboard.
NOTE Picture fonts, such as Webdings, are not supported in Image Viewer.
- Position the cursor in the text annotation.
- Press the Insert key to display a text box and paste the characters
that are on the clipboard. Click OK.
- With certain browsers, you can enter the characters associated with the Alt
key directly into the text edit box.
NOTE Image
Viewer does not wrap long text. If the text in an annotation is getting
too long (near the edge of the page), press Enter or Return to create
separate lines. This makes the complete annotation text viewable.
To move an annotation
- Click the Select/edit an annotation tool on the annotation toolbar.
- Click on the annotation
and hold down the mouse button while you drag the annotation to a new location.
- When the annotation is in the correct location, release the mouse button.
To save your annotation changes
- Click the Save button in the Annotation toolbar
(at the left of the Image Viewer window) to save the annotations with
the image.
NOTE
The Fix button in the annotation customization toolbar does not save
your changes with the image.
