About compound documents
A compound document is a collection of files that are used together to form a single complete document. A compound document consists of the following objects:
- a parent document component. This parent document is not required to contain content.
- a child document component linked to a parent document component by a component relationship object. Any child document component can be the parent document component of another compound document structure.
- a component relationship object that links together a parent document component with it's child document components. You can search for component relationship objects using Enterprise Manager's search functionality.
Within Enterprise Manager, compound documents are distinguished from standard documents through the use of a graphic icon and a check box displayed in the General tab of the document properties dialog box.
For information concerning specific tasks that can be performed on compound documents, see the How to work with documents topics related to compound documents.
