Process Engine servers

The Servers node displays the names of all Process Engine servers and load balancers in the farmed Process Engine system. You can start, stop, and configure most server properties for all servers from any Process Engine server; however, some server properties can only be configured on the local server.

To add a Process Engine server to a farmed system, install the Process Engine software on the server, configuring it to use the same database as the other servers in the farm. You can add a server while the other servers are running.

Process Engine farmed system overview

Process Engine allows you to add servers to your system in order to improve performance and availability. A group of related Process Engine servers is referred to as a farmed Process Engine system, or simply a farm. A farm is a set of servers that share the same workflow database, each actively providing the same service, with the same applications. A farm can use one or more load balancers to distribute work between servers.

All running servers in a farmed Process Engine system must have the same:

Since the system time in a farmed Process Engine system is synchronized by the database, the following limitations exist:

NOTE  The statistics functionality provided by vwtool, the Process Java API, and Process Administrator is not available in a farmed Process Engine system. Instead, you can view statistics using the optional Process Analyzer capabilities.
