Refresh preferences

The Refresh site preferences allow you to refresh a cache to allow the system to immediately pick up changes that have been made to entries that might have the old information in cache. For example, if you change a user display name on the LDAP server or change the label of a property in Enterprise Manager, refresh the appropriate cache.

Refresh Workplace XT

User display name cache

This cache stores the display names for users. The application keeps a mapping between the short name it receives (such as tjones) and the display name (such as Tom Jones). The number of names stored in cache is displayed.

Property name cache

The application looks up and caches the localized names for each property. The number of items stored in cache is displayed.

Class description cache

The application caches the class property description or choice list at the application level. Click Refresh class description cache to clear the application cache and pick up changes from the server. To also clear the session cache, you must log out from the application and log back in.

The following areas are affected:

Configuration files

If you have modified a configuration file, you can click Reload configuration files to reload all configuration files, which imports the new information.

CAUTION  Do not reload configuration files unless you are sure that you want to use the modifications. For example, a missing base Web address for an expansion product could cause problems that are difficult to troubleshoot.

Application base URL

The Workplace and Workplace XT base Web addresses are used by application extensions to link to the respective application. Some examples are:

The base Web address is initially set from the first Web address request that the application receives after login (when the administrator sets the initial bootstrap preferences after installing the Application Engine or Workplace XT).

You should update the base Web address under these conditions:

To configure your application base URL

Do one of the following:

Refresh Application Integration BCS

Save configuration files into site preferences

This setting stores the contents of the ClassFilter.xml file that allows Application Integration BCS to exclude certain classes. The excluded classes are not displayed when users are working with documents and folders from within an integrated Microsoft® Office 2007 application.

User Information Cache

This cache stores information about users, such as their display names, e-mail and name properties. The application keeps a mapping between the short name it receives (such as tjones) and the display name (such as Tom Jones). E-mail and name information appear when users use tooltips to view more information about a specific user, for example, security settings for a document.

Choice List Definitions

This cache stores all of the items defined in a choice list, a list of predefined property values. Refresh this cache when you want to add, remove or change items in a choice list.

Choice List Associations

This cache stores the properties associated with specific choice lists. Refresh this cache when you want to associate properties with a different choice list.

Property Names

The application looks up and caches the localized names for each property.
