General search criteria

The Search user preference settings determine the default criteria displayed in the Search page.

To define general search preference criteria

  1. Click Preferences in the upper right corner.
  2. In the User Preferences page, click Search from the list of views.
  3. Click General from the list of Search views.
  4. Select the default object store and folder to search in. Click Change Search In.
    1. Select an object store name to select that object store for the search.
    2. If needed, select a specific folder or subfolder to search in.
  5. Select the default object type. You can change the object type on the Search page if you choose to display the Search for option on the search page (step 6). Select Document (this also includes forms), Folder, or Custom Object from the Default Search For drop-down list.
  6. To display the Search for option on the search page, select Show from the Show Search For list. This allows you to switch between documents, folders, and custom objects on the Search page.
  7. Select the default search view to display in Search. Options are Default, Simple Search or Search Templates. Default is the option defined by your administrator. You can switch between Simple Search and Search Templates on the search page.
  8. Select the search selection mode that is displayed in Search. Options are Default, Flat List or Folder Navigation. Default is the option defined by your administrator.
  9. Specify general criteria for searches for words and phrases in documents.
    1. Set the Relevancy Ranking. Select On to sort results of content searches so that the most relevant results are at the top of the list. A column in the results will display the percentage rank of each item. This option takes a little longer to display the search results.
    2. Set the Search Scope. To locate any of the specified words or phrases, select Any from the drop-down list.To locate words or phrases within a set number of words from each other, select Near from the drop-down list.
    3. Set the Range for the Near operator if you specified Near for the Search Scope. The default is to search for words or phrases within 1000 words of each other.
  10. Click Apply to save your changes.
  11. Click Exit to close the User Preferences page.
