Customize Workplace
Both you and your site administrator can control how Workplace displays information. Some of the settings that your site administrator controls can be overridden by your own settings in User Preferences. User Preference settings always take precedence over site settings.
Site-wide settings (administrator)
Your administrator can change the appearance of Workplace in numerous ways. Typical changes include:
- Custom banner at the top of the Workplace screen. Your site can use a custom logo in place of the Workplace logo. The logo is still a link to the Home page that you or your administrator select.
- Custom primary views. Your administrator can change the names of the primary views (My Workplace, Tasks, Browse, Search, Author, and Admin) or create additional views. The administrator can assign access rights to a specific view to hide some views from unauthorized users.
- General display settings. Your administrator can select magazine or detailed view for lists, date formats, and more. You can make your own choices, including how many lines to display per page.
- Custom labels for
common terms: Your administrator can rename Object Store, Path, Classification, File Plan, Profile, Class, and Subclass. For example, "Object Store" might be displayed as "Library." The documentation still uses the original Workplace terminology.
- Custom labels for system properties. System Properties, such as "Creator" or "Date Last Modified," can be renamed.
- Custom actions. Your administrator can create custom actions that are not part of the standard Workplace.
Personal settings (user preferences)
You can change the appearance of Workplace in numerous ways. Typical changes include:
- Creating your own My Workplace pages.
- Setting a default home page that you go to when clicking the Home link.
- Specifying whether to display some information, such as confirmation pages, system properties, folder filtering, and search criteria.
- Many options related to searching.
