The Move File Store wizard enables you to relocate a file storage area from one physical location to another. Rather than moving a file storage area for you, the Move File Store wizard prompts you to perform certain steps and performs certain steps for you.
You need a backup and restore utility to move the file storage area. Ensure that the utility you use can preserve the folder structure and security settings of the original file storage area. Moving files with tools other than a backup and restore utility does not preserve the security settings on the files.
The Move File Store operation takes a minimum of 15 minutes to complete. Depending on the size of the file storage area and the location it is being moved to, the operation can take longer. The file storage area is unavailable to users until the wizard is complete.
The Move File Store wizard does not delete the old file storage area. Once the wizard completes, it updates the GCD with the new file storage area location.
