Activity step - assignments

Use the Assignments tab to specify values for data fields, attachments, and workflow groups, to assign a milestone for the selected step, or to specify attribute values for the selected step.

Field assignment

You can specify values that Process Engine assigns to any data field, attachment, or workflow group either before the selected step executes or after the processing of the step is complete. These assignments occur outside the processing of the previous or next step.

To assign values to fields in a step

  1. If necessary, select the step on the map, then click the Assignments tab in the Properties pane.
  2. Select Before Execution to assign the values or milestones before the step executes; select After Completion to assign the values after the processing of the step is complete.
  3. Click in the Name field and select a field to assign.
  4. Enter an expression to assign. The expression must evaluate to the data type of the field that you selected in step 3. See the Expression builder dialog for information about defining an expression.
  5. Repeat for each value you want to assign.

Milestone

On the Assignments tab, you can assign a milestone that will log a specific message either before the step executes or after the step is complete. See Define a milestone for more information.

To specify a milestone before or after the selected step

  1. On the Assignments tab, select Before Execution or After Completion.
  2. Select the milestone to assign.

Attributes

You can specify custom values as attributes of a specific step. The value exists only while the step is active; they cannot be used by another step in the workflow.

To assign an attribute for the selected step

  1. On the Attributes tab (for General steps use the Assignments tab), enter a name for the attribute.

NOTE  The following items are currently reserved for FileNet use in specifying custom step icons.

  2. Specify the data type of the attribute.
  3. Enter attribute value. The value must be a literal—expressions are not supported.
