Open a work item by selecting it in the Inbox, or work queue. When you open a work item, the
page displays the instructions and other information you need to complete a particular step in
a workflow—data fields, attachments, response options, and other controls. The workflow author
determines the appearance of the work item page by specifying an appropriate step
processor. For an item in a work queue, your access rights to that queue also affect the appearance
of the work item page.
A work item page can include the following:
If a deadline was specified for this step, the expiration date and time display; if the deadline has passed, an Overdue status displays.
If there are Response options, choose the one you want from the list. The choice you make usually determines how the workflow progresses after you complete the work (for example, which step is executed next). See Select a response.
In the Comments area, you can optionally enter comments. The tracker for this workflow can view the comments. If a subsequent step allows the participants to view the status of the workflow, those participants can also view any comments.
NOTE The work item page displays attachments, data fields, workflow groups, and responses only when they are used in that work item. For example, if the work item does not include any attachments, the attachments area is not displayed.
A work item page can include the following command buttons:
Complete Save your changes and route the work to the next step in the workflow.
Save Save your work-in-progress. This option allows you to continue your work at a later time, or to move work from a work queue into your Inbox. It does not route the work to the next step.
Cancel Close the step processor without saving your changes.
Reassign Assign a work item to another participant.
Return Return work in your Inbox to its former holder, such as:
Status Launch the Process Tracker application in a separate browser window from your work item page. Process Tracker displays the workflow maps and status information including milestones reached, steps completed, and steps in progress. This option is available only if specified in the workflow definition.
If you are assigned as a tracker for the workflow, a Properties tab displays where you can view and change the values of some fields, attachments, and workflow groups.
NOTE If you make changes to the work item in Process Tracker, those changes will not be reflected when you return to the work item page.
