Notes:

  1. All compilers are used in 32-bit mode.

  2. Most vendors DO NOT support backward compatibility, which means if you compile and build on a given version of the operating system environment, you can run the code on that version or on a later version. However, you cannot run the code on an earlier version of the operating system.  For example, an ISTK program is compiled with AIX VisualAge 6.0 compiler and built on AIX 5.1 will not run on an AIX 4.3.x target system.
