To improve performance, you may eventually want to add another Process Engine
to your system. You can add up to ten additional Process Engines.
Note that if you currently have only one Process Engine,
the workflow database it uses must be remote in order for you to add an
additional Process Engine.
CAUTION Once
added, you cannot remove an additional Process Engine.
NOTE (FileNet Web Services Client
and Open Client
only) If you have a Process with Imaging deployment, you cannot use the
procedure below to add a Process Engine.
Instead, first use fn_edit to add an application server and a SQL service
to the new Process Engine
(see your FileNet Image Services documentation for details). Then complete
the procedure titled "Configure Image Services to support Process
Engine(s)" in the Process
Installation Guide for FileNet Image Manager.
To add a new Process Engine
On the primary Process Engine:
Add an entry to the hosts file. The hosts file must contain the
PC server name and Internet Protocol (IP) address of all computers
this Process Engine
will communicate with remotely, including the database server and
primary and additional Process Engines.
The location of the hosts file depends on where the operating system
software is installed; for example, for Windows the file might be
in \winnt\system32\drivers\etc,
for Solaris, the file is in /etc/hosts.
Stop the Process Service.
Select the Additional Process Engines
folder, then click New on the Action
menu.
Enter the General properties.
Property
Description
Server Name
The name of the additional Process Engine.
You cannot change the server name once it has been configured.
The name must meet the Process Engine
naming
requirements.
IP Address
The IP address of the Process Engine.
You can safely change a servers IP address without
affecting the Process Engine,
provided the following rules are observed:
Do not change a servers IP address while another
server in the VWService
is in the process of being deleted.
If you are using the Domain Name System (DNS), make
sure that you update the DNS server host table to correspond
to the changes you make.
For instructions on changing your servers IP address,
see the documentation for your server platform.
Enter the Database properties.
Name
Description
Instance Name
(SQL Server only) The name of the SQL Server database instance
on the remote server. This is set at installation, and cannot
be changed. A blank instance name indicates the default instance.
The name must meet the Process Engine
naming
requirements.
NOTE If
the remote database is installed across a subnet and referenced
by an alias, the alias name must include both the remote server
name and the instance name.
Database Name
(SQL Server only) The database name created during installation
of the SQL Server database. The name must meet the Process Engine
naming
requirements.
Dedicated Filegroup/
Tablespace
The name of the filegroup (SQL Server) or tablespace (Oracle)
where you want the Process Engine
database to reside. The name must meet the Process Engine
naming
requirements.
Index Tablespace
(Oracle only) Optionally, the name of the tablespace where
you want the Process Engine
database to store its index data. The name must meet the Process Engine
naming
requirements.
Version Number
(Oracle only) The version of the database software.
