Create a submap

To make a workflow definition more modular, you can define one or more submaps within a workflow definition. For additional information, see About workflow maps.

You can also redefine a FileNet-provided map to provide custom processing for some system functions. See About FileNet-provided system maps for additional information.

To create a submap

  1. From the Tools menu, select Create Submap.
  2. In the Create Submap dialog, choose the Map Type:
    • Submap to create a new submap.
    • Overridden System Map to create a custom version of a FileNet-provided map.
  3. Enter a name for the map. The name must be unique in the current workflow definition.
  4. Enter a description of the submap for author reference.

On the new submap, add steps and routes to define the process represented by this map.

Other ways to create and manage submaps

  • Select Create Submap on the Map toolbar

    workflow map toolbar

  • Select the Submaps tab on the Workflow Properties dialog.

TIP To use the submap in the workflow, place a submap step on a map, then associate the new submap with that step. See Add a step.
