The Windows Backup utility (ntbackup.exe) is
part of the standard Windows Server System Administrator
interface. The following procedure describes
how to back up the Process Engine
server using the ntbackup utility through the
Windows Server interface. If you wish to use
a backup script instead, refer to Using the
Windows Backup utility from the command line.
NOTE If
your FileNet system is uses the FileNet Process Analyzer,
you should back up the Process Analyzer
data at the same time as the Process Engine.
See Backing
up Process Analyzer for instructions.
To back up Process Engine
using the Backup utility
Log on to Windows Server as a member of
the Windows Administrators group and as a
member of the fnop or fnadmin group and dba
and fnusr groups that can control FileNet
software.
NOTE To
back up RDBMS files, you must have read and
write permissions on these files. You must
be a user with dba privileges.
Shut down the Process Engine
software, including the workflow database,
before using ntbackup. Use the Process Task Manager
to stop
the Process software. You must shut down
all non-root servers before shutting down
the root server.
CAUTION For
FileNet-controlled databases, always use the
Process Task Manager
to shut down both FileNet software and the
workflow database. Do not use the Microsoft
SQL Server Enterprise Manager or the Oracle
svrmgrl
to stop the workflow database. If you do,
an error displays because the database processes
are dependent on the IMS ControlService. If
you have a site-controlled workflow database,
you must shut down the database software after
you shut down the FileNet software.
Select Backup from the Accessories/System
Tools folder. Select the files to back up,
and start the backup process. Refer to the
Windows Server System Guide if you need additional
information.
When the backup completes, exit Backup.
Unload the tape and label it with the dataset
names, date, and your initials. Write-protect
the cartridge and store in a safe place.
