About workflow and repository versions

Each running workflow is associated with a specific version of the files in the Repositories and Rules folders. The association between a version of a workflow and a version of the repository files is established when the workflow transfer occurs. When the workflow is launched Rules Engine executes the associated version of the rules as appropriate. When a workflow definition is updated and transferred, the workflows currently running do not use the new version of the repository files. However, any workflows launched after the transfer occurs will use the new version.

When a new version of a workflow is transferred, Rules Engine also attempts to create a new version of the associated .ilr rule set that is located in the Rules folder. If the rules in the rule set are still valid, a new version of the .ilr file is created. However, if there are any errors in the rule set—such as an invalid data field, a new version of the rule set is not created. You must edit the rule set using ILOG Rules Builder and then export the rule set to an .ilr file. See Creating and exporting rules for more information.
