Specify field values

A data field displayed on a work item page can be informational only or can allow you to change the value of the field. Check the instructions on the work item page for information about using the field values. See Working with attachments, data fields, and workflow groups for information about the effects of security settings on these items in a work item. See About workflow fields for general information on data fields and other field types.

To specify values of a data field

  1. In the open work item, display the list of data fields.
  2. Select the field name in the list.
  3. Double-click in the Value field and enter the value that corresponds to the data type.
  4. To specify values of the time data fields, see Editing a time data field below.

If the field represents a collection of values (an array), you can add and remove field values in the array. See Edit array fields.

Editing a time data field

Use the Calendar control to edit a time data field. Click the Calendar icon (before the Value column) for the data field to display the Calendar control.

Set the date as follows:

  • Click the double arrows on the left to revert to the previous year.
  • Click the double arrows on the right to move to the next year.
  • Click the single arrow on the left to revert to the previous month.
  • Click the single arrow on the right to move to the next month.
  • Select the day of the month on the calendar. Your selection is indicated in red.

Set the time as follows:

  • Select the hour on the Time pull-down menu, using a 0 to 24-hour designation.
  • Set the minutes and seconds by highlighting those fields in the display and entering the appropriate minutes and seconds.

Press OK to confirm or Cancel to cancel your selections. The Value column displays your new settings.

TIP The current value of a data field can be blank under the following circumstances:

  • The data field is a string and there is no current value (data fields of any other type display a default value if no value has been assigned).
  • You have Write access to the field, which means you can enter a value but you cannot see the current value.
