View or edit data fields

You can change the values of data fields of an active work item.

To edit data fields in place

  1. Select the work you want to modify. See the sidebar for information on making changes in Step view and Participants view.
  2. Click the Fields tab.
  3. Select the field you want to work with. If the field is an array, you can click the pointer in the left-most column to expand the array.

TIP For array fields in which the displayed value is "<various values>" (indicating that there are multiple work items), you cannot expand the values. Continue with the next step.

  4. Double-click in the Value column of the field you want to change.
For values that cannot be edited in place, the Edit Array Fields dialog box displays.
  5. Enter your changes, then click Save All Changes on the toolbar.
  6. When you are done making changes to the work items, you can unlock them, or leave them locked in order to perform other tasks.

NOTE Changes made in Step view affect all underlying participant work items in the step; changes made in Participants view affect only the selected work item.

TIP If you view by step and the step has multiple participants (work items), the values that display in the Fields table depend on the values of all of the underlying work items.

  • If a field has the same value for all work items, the value displays.
  • If the value varies from one work item to another, "<various values>" displays in the field.

See Displaying field values from multiple work items. You can view by participant for access to the values from each participant.

TIP When you exit, Process Tracker prompts you to unlock any workflows you have left locked.
