Coordinate information between the workflow author and the system administrator

During the workflow design phase, the workflow author, application developer, and system administrator typically work together to determine workflow definition and isolated region configuration information.

The following table shows the information that each person commonly provides.

Information provided Source Description

Data field definitions

Workflow author

The workflow author determines the data fields used by the workflow. To make the data fields available for searches, indexes, or historical event logs, the system administrator uses the Process Configuration Console to expose the fields in the workflow rosters, work and user queues, and event logs.

The workflow author also provides this information to the application developer, who can access the data fields using the Process APIs.

Work queue access rights

System administrator

The system administrator specifies the security settings for each workflow roster, work queue, and user queue.

Event logging settings

System administrator or workflow author

The system administrator enables event logging for the system. The workflow author can work within the framework set up by the system administrator, or can tell the system administrator when additional logging needs to be enabled.

Index keys

Application developer

The application developer must tell the system administrator what indexes his application needs in order to function efficiently. The system administrator then creates the indexes using the Process Configuration Console.
