Backing up databasesIn general, use the native backup tool provided with the database engine to perform database backups instead of using a general backup tool such as NTBackup. (Using NTBackup or another file system backup tool to back up the database works well only for databases less than 100 MB.) Mixing transaction log backups with differential backups is a good strategy for backing up the database. We recommend you schedule complete backups at long intervals, differential backups at medium intervals, and transaction log backups at short intervals. Using this plan, you can easily restore a database to a point-in-time, use the minimal amount of data to reconstruct a database, and minimize the loss of data. See the vendor's documentation for information on performing a database backup.
