Set runtime options

Use this option to specify the runtime options for the VWService.

To set runtime options

  1. Select the icon of the VWService you wish to modify and click the Properties on the toolbar.
  2. Select the Runtime Options tab.
  3. On this tab, check or uncheck the following items:
    Option Description

    Enable loop detection

Check this box to enable loop detection on the Process Engine. FileNet recommends that you check this box.

When loop detection is enabled, a work item that exceeds three times the Maximum operations per transaction or Maximum instructions per transaction is considered to be in a loop and is handled as an error. See Set performance parameters for more information on these parameters.

    Remove expired timer from parent

Check this box to disable the timer on a parent work item whose children work items have already expired. FileNet recommends that you check this box.

Delete parent when children do not merge

Check this box to enable the deletion of parent work items when the child work items are deleted or terminated. FileNet recommends that you check this box.

If this box is checked, a parent work item is terminated if all its children are terminated or deleted. If the box is not checked and all of the children are terminated or deleted, the parent work item leaves the Delay queue and continues processing.

    Enable consistent return

Check this box to determine whether the map type is a factor in the behavior of the Return system function. See Return system function in the Process Designer online help for more information.

By default, the Consistent return option is enabled unless you have upgraded from an older version of the software. Disable this option only if you need to maintain compatibility for existing workflows that were created in an older version and which depend on the original (i.e., inconsistent) use of the Return system function.

    Enable statistics collection

Check this box to enable statistics collection for the entire VWService.

Unchecking this box terminates the server process (vwstats) that controls statistics collection. To disable statistics collection for a specific isolated region, see Enable or disable statistics collection.

    Enable notification

Check this box to enable email notification for the VWService.

Unchecking this box terminates the server process (vwnotify) that controls email notification.

    Enable workflow termination event

Check this box to enable workflow termination tracking for the VWService.

Unchecking this box terminates the server process (vwdone) that controls termination tracking.

    Enable Process Analyzer

Check this box to enable the publishing of workflow information to the Process Analyzer. You must enable this option in order to generate the information used by the Process Analyzer reports.

CAUTION The Process Analyzer requires that certain optional system fields by exposed. When you enable this option, the Help for Process Java API displays a list of the required fields. You must verify that these fields are exposed as indicated for all isolated regions in the VWService. See System fields defined for a list of the required optional fields.

NOTE This box is enabled by default. If there is not a Process Analyzer Engine associated with the Process Engine, enabling this box has no effect.

    Enable Rules

Check this box to enable rules functionality on the server. The workflow author uses Process Designer to specify which rules to run at any step in a workflow. See Using Rules for information about configuring and implementing rules.

Unchecking this box disables rules functionality, but allows workflows that contain rule functions to continue processing.

The Rules Engine must be present to process the rules when a workflow is running. See Configuring other server connections for information about using Task Manager to specify the location of the Rules Engine.

  4. Click OK to save your changes.
  5. You must restart the Process Service on the Process Engine to make the changes take effect. Use the Process Task Manager to restart the software.
