Open unassigned work

Some work items are assigned to work queues instead of to a specific participant. If you have access to a work queue, that queue is listed on the Public Work Queues tab.

To open work from a work queue

  1. On the Process page, open the Public Work Queues tab and a folder that represents a work queue.
  2. Click on a work item to open it.

When you open work from a work queue, that work item is locked (reserved) for you; other participants with access to the work queue cannot open it. The open work item displays instructions, data, attachments, response choices, and other resources that you need to complete the work.

Each item in a work queue displays the following information.

Name Description

Select

Click the radio button to select the work item without opening it. You can then open the item by clicking the Open button on the toolbar.

Locked state

A lock symbol displays if the item is locked either by you or by another participant with access to this queue.

Subject

The name or brief description of the workflow. Click the subject text to open the item.

Step name

The name of the step in the workflow to which the work item corresponds.

Status

The current status of this work item: possible states are In Progress, Overdue, Reminder.

In Progress status is in effect while the work item is in the queue unless the time in the queue exceeds a deadline or reminder of a deadline for the step.

Overdue status indicates that the time in the queue has exceeded a deadline set for the step.

Reminder status indicates that the time in the queue has exceeded a reminder set for a deadline for the step.

Date Received

The date and time this item entered the queue.

NOTE You will be unable to make changes to the work item if you have only read access to the work queue.
