Workflow properties - General

On the General tab of the Workflow Properties dialog, you specify the name for the workflow definition, the subject text that each participant will see when the workflow is running, and other general properties.

To specify the general properties of the workflow

  1. If necessary, select Workflow Properties Workflow Properties tool on the Process Designer toolbar, and display the General tab.
  2. In the Workflow Name field, enter a name for this workflow definition.

The names of workflow definitions must conform to the following rules:

    • Begin with an alphabetic character. May contain letters, digits, underscores, or spaces.
    • Maximum length 249 characters.
    • Not use F_ or two tilde (~~) characters as the first two characters.
    • Be unique among workflow definitions in an isolated region.

Click Check Workflow Name (in the upper right corner of the General tab) to verify that the name you entered is unique.

  3. In the Subject field, enter a title that describes the workflow. The Subject text identifies the work item in a participant inbox when the workflow is running.
  4. In the Description field, you can optionally enter a description of the workflow. The text that you enter subsequently displays for the tracker.
  5. In the Deadline field, specify a time limit for the workflow to be completed, if appropriate. For the reminder, specify an amount of time prior to the deadline expiration.

The deadline indicates an amount of time relative to the time that the workflow was launched. If a reminder is set, the tracker assigned for this workflow will receive a reminder of the pending deadline.

TIP Workflow participants do not receive notification of a workflow deadline—the tracker is notified if email notification is active. To enable workflow participants to receive notification of reminders and deadlines, specify deadlines and reminders for individual steps.
