Installing, enabling, and starting the Rules Engine

Before you can use the Rules Engine, you must install, enable, and start the Rules Engine integration.

To install the Rules Engine integration

  1. Install ILOG JRules on the Process Engine
If JRules is not installed prior to installing the Process Engine and Rules Engine, you must update the taskman.properties and fnrules.properties files manually with the paths to the JRules install location. See Enable Rules Engine Integration Manually in the Installation Guide for instructions.
  2. Install the Rules Engine on the Process Engine
During Process Engine installation the setup program copies the Rules Engine program files and folders to the Process Engine. If you choose to install Rules Engine during the Process Engine installation, the setup program updates the configuration files taskman.properties and fnrules.properties to support the Rules Engine. If you elected not to install Rules Engine during the Process Engine installation, setup still copies the Rules Engine files and folders but you must update the configuration files manually when you are ready to use the Rules Engine. See Enable Rules Engine Integration Manually in the Installation Guide for instructions.

To enable the Rules Engine integration

  1. Enable the Rules Engine integration in the Process Task Manager and Process Configuration Console. See Enable Rules Engine Integration in the Installation Guide for instructions.
  2. Configure the Rules Engine connections in the Process Task Manager (see Configure other server connections and Rules Engine general properties for information.)

To start the Rules Engine

  1. Log on to the Process Engine as fnsw. If you have multiple Process Engine servers, log on to the Process Engine where ILOG JRules is installed.
  2. Start the Process Task Manager.
    • Windows: Select Start > Programs > FileNet P8 Platform > Process Engine > Process Task Manager.
    • UNIX: Enter vwtaskman from the command prompt.
  3. In the feature pane, right-click on Rules Engine and select Start from the context menu.
