recover

This command initiates recovery for all work items locked by the specified machine and user in the isolated region.

There are several options available for the recover command--you can choose to unlock:

  • work items locked by a specified machine and user
  • work items locked by a specified user on any machine in the isolated region
  • work items locked by any user on a specified machine in the isolated region
  • all locked work items within the isolated region

NOTE In a multi-server configuration, the recover command does not unlock work items on a server remote to the roster. You must use unlockwob to unlock work items in this case.

If you recover a work item while an application on a workstation is processing it, the workstation gets an error when it tries to update the work item. No other errors or problems result, however.

Prior to running the recover command, you should understand the ramifications of work item recovery. See the section on "Work Item Recovery" in the Help for Process Engine Administration for more information.

Syntax

The syntax varies depending on the work items you want to recover.

To recover Syntax

work items locked by a specified machine and user

recover <machineid> <userid>

work items locked by a specified user on any machine in the isolated region

recover * <userid>

work items locked by any user on a specified machine in the isolated region

recover <machineid> *

all locked work items within the isolated region

recover * *

Parameters

machineid

Machine ID of the workstation or server whose locked work items you want to recover.

Enter a specific machine ID or an asterisk (*) to indicate all workstations in the isolated region.

Web-based work items display a machine ID of -2. Enter -2 to recover all web-based work items.

Use the wobquery command to determine the machine ID. Select the queue containing the work item, and look in the F_LockMachine field.

userid

User ID of user whose locked work items you want to recover.

Enter a specific user ID or an asterisk (*) to indicate all users in the isolated region.

Use the wobquery command to determine the userid. Select the queue containing the work item, and look in the F_LockUser field.

TIP In vwtool, you can enter parameters on the command line (following the command name) or let vwtool prompt you for the information by entering just the command name. Generally, we recommend prompt mode for all but the simplest commands. Entering the parameters on the command line is intended primarily for script-driven input.

NOTE If necessary, change to the desired isolated region prior to executing this command.
