Managing Process Engines

Within a VWService, a Process Engine runs the Process Service software, which enables workflow activity. Each Process Engine is uniquely identified as "VW Server<number>," where the number is system-assigned, starting with 0 and incrementing by 1. The server assigned ID number 0 is the primary Process Engine for its VWService. Certain data and software components used throughout a VWService reside only on this server.

The illustration at left represents a VWService (rosa) with three Process Engines: Server 0 (rosa), Server 1, and Server 2.

When there are multiple Process Engines in a VWService, you can assign component queues, rosters and work queues to a specific Process Engine. Tables used for user queues, system queues, event logging, and statistics, however, are replicated on each server. The Process Engine on which the activity takes place determines the actual table used for a transaction.
