Specify data field values

A data field displayed on a work item page can be information only or it can allow you to modify its value. The access privileges specified for a data field determine whether you can view and/or modify the data field's value. See Working with attachments, data fields, and workflow groups for details.

To specify values of a data field

  1. Check the instructions on the work item page for information about using the field values in this work item.
  2. In the open work item, click the Data Fields tab to display the list of data fields included at this step.
  3. To modify the value of an editable data field, do one of the following:
    • For a data field with a single value, click in the Value edit box and enter the new value.

For a Time field, click the Calendar control and click to select a date. Click a single arrow above the calendar to display the previous or next month; click a double arrow to display the previous or next year. Enter the time.

    • For an array, click the [Edit...] link to open the Array Contents page to edit the individual elements in the array. See Edit data field array for additional information.

On the Array Contents page, select the element to edit and make the desired changes.

TIP The current value of a data field can be blank under the following circumstances:

  • The data field is a string and there is no current value (data fields of any other type display a default value if no value has been assigned).
  • You have Write access to the field, which means you can enter a value but you cannot see the current value.
