Develop custom applicationsDeveloping custom applications involves the web application (either FileNet Web Services Client or FileNet Open Client, depending upon your installation), modifying the interface to Process Engine services, or writing custom applications for processing workflows, such as custom step processors, work performers, and user inboxes. Extending the FileNet Web Services Client application might include creating Java-based, ASP-based, or other COM-based applets or applications that interact with the Process Engine. Extending the FileNet Open Client web application may include creating Java-based or ASPX-based applications within the context of Microsoft's ASP.NET platform technology. For each of these web applications, such development also might include modifying existing HTML or Java step processor or launch processor samples. The Process development environment contains many of the resources a developer needs to develop HTML-, Java-, ASP-, ASPX-, or other COM-based applications for either FileNet Web Services Client or FileNet Open Client. These resources include the Process Java API runtime classes, the JiGlue library files (provides the JiGlue COM Bridge, which provides a translation layer between the Process Java APIs and COM for developers developing a COM application), and other resources appropriate for the web application environment. Two sets of samples are also provided with each Process development environment. The Process API samples demonstrate how to begin working with the Process Java APIs and provide reusable elements for custom applications. Sample HTML and Java step processors and launch processors are also included. In addition, the Process development environment includes a Java step processor UI Toolkit, which contains a set of Swing-based classes, beans, etc., used to provide user interface controls for the Java step processor samples For more information about developing or customizing Process applications, see the Help for Process Java API.
