Launch a workflow

You launch a workflow to start the process specified in a saved workflow definition. Since workflows are frequently designed to process specific types of documents, you can launch an appropriate workflow either manually or automatically from a document in your Content Services (CS) library. You can also directly launch a workflow definition.

NOTE  To launch from a document, the document (or the document class to which it belongs) must be associated with one or more workflow definitions designed to process that type of document. In FileNet Web Services Client and Open Client, the association is called a link. An administrative user creates these associations.

To launch a workflow manually

Select the document or workflow definition file in the CS library, then select the Launch command, as appropriate for your client interface.

To set up automatic launching

An administrative user must specify the conditions that will trigger the launch for a particular workflow. The most usual events that trigger automatic launching of a workflow are adding or checking in a document of a specific document class. There can be additional options, such as particular values of document properties, and so on. See the Help for Linker for information about setting up automatic launching.
