What to back up for Rules Engine

This topic lists the files the should be backed up for Rules Engine. In addition to backing up the Rules Engine files listed in the table below, you should also backup the following FileNet components at the same time.

  • Process Engine database
The Process Engine database contains running workflows and other Process Engine data. If Process Engine is configured to use the Rules Engine, each running workflow is associated with a specific version of the files in the \repositories and \rules folders. The association between a version of a workflow and a version of the repository files is established when the workflow is transferred to the Process Engine. If the Process Engine database and Rules repository are not backed up at the same time, when you restore your FileNet system the Process Engine database may contain workflows that have no corresponding files in the Rules repository, or vice versa. Running workflows that try to access missing files in the Rules repository will encounter errors.
  • Content Services library
Workflow definitions are stored in one or more Content Services (CS) libraries. At a minimum, you should back up the appropriate CS libraries when you back up Rules Engine. In order to launch and run a workflow, the Process Engine must be able to access the workflow definition in the CS library.
