Thesaurus Integration

Once you have created a new thesaurus, it should be placed in the appropriate directory for use.

NOTE: If you are using a locale that has a default .syd file (like English), then you must move the default .syd file from the /language directory or rename the file. It is recommended that you move the default .syd file to a safe location rather than removing the file permanently. Only one .syd file can be present in the /language directory at a time.

To integrate the custom thesaurus into a Verity application, move the compiled thesaurus .syd file to the /language directory located in:

verity/prdname/k2/common/language/

where verity/prdname is the user-definable portion of the installation path, and language represents the language directory, for example /english for the English locale.

NOTE: The thesaurus .syd file must be renamed with the appropriate filename for use. The appropriate filename is:

vdknnsyd.syd

where nn indicates the working version of VDK.

WARNING! All application processes including user searches must be terminated before you remove or change the contents of the common directory or any of its subdirectories. The new thesaurus will be used when the application is started or restarted.

Using a Knowledge Base Map to Point to a .syd File

You can also use a Knowledge Base Map to point to a .syd File. A sample map file looks like:

$control
kbases:
{
kb: "Thesaurus"
/kb-path = "vdknn.syd"
}
where nn indicates the working version of VDK.

Point to this map file either through the client in a local context, or through the server configuration file in a remote context.

Note that no thesaurus operator is necessary in queries using a Knowledge Base Map. The query works like a topic, so any word in the thesaurus that you enter will automatically map to its synonym list.
