document
For FileNet P8 Platform, searches, publishing templates, workflow definitions, preferences files, and most documents added by Workplace and WCM users are stored as versionable documents.
For FileNet Image Manager, Content Services (CS) documents and the searches saved in CS libraries can have versions; Image Services (IS) documents do not have versions.
For WCM, a document is a component added to the Site folder from Application Integration or Workplace. WCM treats a document as an asset.

workflow fields
A field is a workflow property, which means that it can be used in one or more steps of a workflow. When the workflow is running, a value set at one step will be available in (and can be changed in) subsequent steps that use the same field. The value of each field in a workflow is limited to the current instance of the workflow; each time the
workflow runs, the values in each field can be different.
