Configuring the Process Engine for automatic startup (Windows only)

By default, you must manually start the Process Service software whenever you boot a Windows-based Process Engine. You can configure the software to start automatically when the Process Engine is booted.

NOTE Since Process Service is dependent on its database software, the database software must be running when the Process Service software starts, regardless of whether the Process Service software starts automatically or manually.

To configure the Process Engine for automatic startup

  1. Stop all FileNet software running on the Process Engine. From Process Task Manager, select Process Service and click Stop on the toolbar. Close the Process Task Manager.
  2. Start the Windows Registry Editor.
    1. From the Start menu, select Run.
    2. In the Open field, enter regedt32.
    3. Click OK.
  3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Expand SYSTEM.
  5. Expand CurrentControlSet.
  6. Expand Services.
  7. Double-click the IMSService registry key to display its values in the details pane.
  8. Double-click ImagePath. Add -c start to the string in the String field. For example:
    old: C:\FNSW\bin\tm_daemon.exe.
    new: C:\FNSW\bin\tm_daemon.exe -c start
  9. Click OK.
  10. If the database is local (that is, on the server where you installed the Process Engine), add a new string value as follows::
    1. Select IMSService, then select Add Value from the Edit menu.
    2. Enter DependOnService in the Value Name field.
    3. From the Data type list, select REG_MULTI_SZ.
    4. Click OK.
    5. In the Data box, enter the following:
      For Microsoft SQL Server MSSQLSERVER
For Oracle: OracleServicexxx, where xxx is the ORACLE_SID value
    6. Click OK.

NOTE If the database takes too long to start up after booting the Process Engine (due to a prior crash, for instance), Process Service automatically stops. In this case, you must start Process Service manually via the Process Task Manager.

  11. Close the Windows Registry Editor.
