About step processorsA step processor is an application that provides the information and resources for a participant to complete a step in a workflow. In a workflow definition, the author specifies which step processor to use for each step. When a participant opens a work item at runtime, the step processor displays the necessary instructions, attachments, field values, response options, and other resources the participant needs to complete the work. A step processor can also accept input from the participant. FileNet provides sample general-purpose step processors that are suitable for many workflow applications. In addition to step processors for participant steps, there are sample launch processors that contain the resources a user needs to start a workflow. You can use the FileNet-provided step processors as-is. Alternatively, an application developer can modify these step processors or create custom step processors for use in specific workflows. See the Help for Process Java API for additional information.
