    Help for Launching a workflow

Launch a workflow

Use the procedures on this page to manually start the process specified in a workflow definition. You can launch the workflow either from a document linked to that workflow definition, or launch the workflow directly from the workflow definition file.

Launch from a document

  1. If you have not already done so, select a document in the CS library, then click Launch Workflow on the toolbar.
  2. If the document or its document class is linked to more than one workflow definition, a Launcher page displays a list of the workflows linked to the document or document class. Select the workflow to launch, then click Launch Step Processor.

NOTE  If the document is not linked to a workflow definition, you cannot select a workflow to run. Only an administrative user can create a link. See About linking for additional information.

  3. On the LaunchStep page, complete any launch tasks, such as entering values in data fields, then click Launch to start the workflow.

If the workflow definition has an initiating attachment, the document you used to launch the workflow is assigned to the attachment.

Launch from the workflow definition

  1. If you have not already done so, select a workflow definition in the CS library, then click Launch Workflow on the toolbar.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To launch the selected workflow
      1. Click Launch it on the Launcher page.
      2. On the LaunchStepProcessor page, complete the tasks necessary to launch the workflow, then click Launch to start the workflow.

If this workflow definition has an initiating attachment, there is no document assigned to that attachment.

    • To launch a different workflow using the selected workflow definition as the initiating attachment
      1. Click Select workflow link below, then choose the workflow to launch and click OK.
      2. On the Launch page, complete the tasks necessary to launch the workflow, then click the Launch button on the page.

If that workflow definition has an initiating attachment, the workflow definition file you selected in the library is assigned to the attachment.

NOTE If the workflow definition has not been linked to a document or transferred to the Process Engine, the launch process validates the workflow definition and transfers it prior to launch. If errors are detected in the workflow definition, a message displays and the launch process stops.

TIP Workflows can be configured to launch automatically in response to events such as adding a document to a particular document class in the library. See About Linking for additional information.
