General step - routing properties

On the Routing tab on the Step Properties pane, you specify any responses that the workflow participant can choose. The response the participant selects usually determines which step executes next. You also specify the routing options for both incoming and outgoing routes.

To specify the responses the participant can select

  1. Click in the Responses table and enter the text of each responses that the participant will be able to choose. (Enter each response on a separate line.)

TIP Be sure to press the Enter key after your last entry.

  2. Use the up and down arrows to rearrange the responses in the list. The order that you specify will be the order in which the participant sees them in the step processor.

To specify incoming routing

If the current step will act as a collector step (an AND-join) for a previous AND-split step, select Collector Step under Incoming Routing Information; otherwise, clear the Collector Step check box. See Create a valid workflow map for additional information about using AND-join and AND-split steps.

To specify outgoing routing

  • If work should proceed on only one valid route from this step (or if there is only one route), select First true condition.

In the list of routes from this step, specify the order that the routes should be evaluated at runtime. (Use the up and down arrows as necessary.) To see any conditions specified for a route, select the route and click Details.

  • If there can be multiple true conditions and work can proceed on multiple routes from this step, select All true conditions.

This creates an AND-split; you must specify a corresponding AND-join for a subsequent step. See Specify incoming routing (above) for information about creating a collector step (AND-join).

For further information, see About routing.
