Create a route between steps

A route determines where the work will be sent when the processing of the step is complete. If there is one route, that route will always be taken. If there is more than one route, the decision for which route to take can be based on one or a combination of the following:

  • Responses defined in the step properties.
  • Conditional expressions defined in the route properties.

See About routing for additional information.

To create a route between two steps

  1. On the workflow map, check that an origin step and one or more destination steps exist on the map. (In the illustration below, Step A is an origin, and Step B is a destination.)

  2. Point to the edge of the origin step until the route symbol displays on the cursor.
  3. Press the left mouse button and drag onto a destination step, then release the button.

The newly created route displays as a red arrow from the origin step to the destination step.

  4. In the Properties pane, enter a name for the route and specify any route conditions. See Specify route properties.
  5. If there is more than one possible route from the step, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each route.
