Lock work

Work items must be locked before you can modify them. You can request a lock at any time, or Process Administrator prompts you to do so when necessary. Once you lock a work item, it remains locked until you explicitly unlock it.

In practice we often speak of locking workflows, or work. In reality, when you request a lock on a workflow, Process Administrator must lock all of the work items that are associated with the workflow. For more information on the relationship between workflows and work items, see Workflows vs. work items.

CAUTION Modifying a work item in the Delay and InstructionSheetInterpreter system queues can have unexpected consequences. Do so only if directed by your FileNet support representative. In addition, you should not edit fields in the CE_Operations component queue.

Locked by system or another user

Sometimes one or more of the affected work items may already be locked by the system or by another user. You cannot make modifications to a work item that is locked by the system—you must wait until it becomes available. Process Administrator warns you when a work item is locked by another user; you can override the lock by choosing to continue.
