Integrating with the Rules Engine

The Rules Engine feature enables you to implement business rules for workflows. These rules can be simple or complex and can perform a variety of actions—such performing if/then tests, setting values in data fields, or sending a work item to a submap or exception map. Business rules are assigned to workflows using the Process Designer but are created in ILOG JRules. For information on creating business rules, see the ILOG JRules documentation. The following topics in the right panel provide complete information about the Rules Engine feature.

As a system administrator, you interact with the Rules Engine in the following ways:

  • On the Process Engine, you install Rules Engine integration and ILOG JRules.
  • On the Process Configuration Console, you enable the Rules Engine integration.
  • On the Process Task Manager, you configure the ports that Process Engine and Rules Engine use to communicate.
  • On the Process Task Manager, you start and stop the Rules Engine.

See Installing and enabling Rules Engine for information on performing each of these tasks.
