Specify a milestone at a step

A milestone is a key point in a workflow where you want to record information to a log. You set up all of the milestones for a workflow definition in the Workflow Properties dialog, then place each milestone at the appropriate location in the workflow—either before or after a step. You can use one milestone for one or more steps.

To place a milestone at a step

  1. On the workflow map, select the step where the milestone will be placed.
  2. In the Step Properties, click the Assignments tab.
  3. Specify where you want the milestone:
    • Choose Before Execution to place the milestone before the step executes.
    • Choose After Execution to place the milestone after the step is completed.
  4. Under Milestone, select the milestone. (If the milestone you want is not available, open the Workflow Properties dialog and create it.)

TIP To use a data value in the milestone message, you can assign the value of the field under Field Assignments.
