General properties

Use the General tab to configure the general properties for Process Service and the primary Process Engine.

The General tab includes these fields:

Name Description
Server Name The name of the Process Engine. You cannot change the server name once it has been configured.
IP Address

The IP address of the Process Engine.

You can safely change a server’s IP address without affecting the Process Engine, provided the following rules are observed:

  • Do not change a server’s IP address while another server in the VWService is in the process of being deleted.
  • If you are using the Domain Name System (DNS), make sure that you update the DNS server host table to correspond to the changes you make.

For instructions on changing your server’s IP address, see the documentation for your server platform.

NOTE If you change the IP address, make sure you update the hosts file on the related servers. The hosts file must contain the PC server name and Internet Protocol (IP) address of all computers this Process Engine will communicate with remotely, including the database server and primary and additional Process Engines. The location of the hosts file depends on where the operating system software is installed; for example, for Windows the file might be in \winnt\system32\drivers\etc, for UNIX, the file is in /etc/hosts.

Date/Time Mask

The Date/Time Mask specifies the format used for string representations of date and time data for the VWService. Note that in a multi-server VWService, all date/time masks must match throughout the VWService. If the Date/Time Mask setting is not specified, the Process Engine uses the format specified for the server operating system. The default Date/Time Mask is mm/dd/yyyy hh:tt:ss.

Refer to Guidelines for Date/Time Mask entries for component definitions.

Java Min Memory
(may not display.)

Sets the minimum amount of memory (in megabytes) that will be used by the server Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The default for Windows is blank, which indicates that the memory is set to default values, according to the JVM being used. The default is 16 for UNIX.

Specify a value for this setting only if the JVM process on your Process Engine begins to run out of memory.

NOTE UNIX systems can use the $JavaMinMemory environment variable instead of this setting. (HP systems must use the environment variable.) You must set the environment variable before starting the PPM or it is ignored.

Java Max Memory
(may not display.)

Sets the maximum amount of memory (in megabytes) that will be used by the server Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The default for Windows is blank, which indicates that the memory is set to default values, according to the JVM being used. The default is 32 for UNIX.

Enable automatic startup Enables automatic startup of the associated process when Process Task Manager is started from a script. See Enabling automatic startup for more information.
