Open a work item

Use the Open Work Item dialog box to open a work item in its associated step processor. You use the step processor to complete work on behalf of another participant. In doing so, you must perform all the actions required to complete the step, such as entering responses or data values, or specifying attachments or workflow group participants.

To open a work item

  1. From the Tasks menu, select Open Work Item.
  2. Select a step from the Step list. Process Tracker lists only steps that have active work items. In addition, Process Tracker does not display steps associated with queues to which you are denied access.

    In the Work Queue box, Process Tracker displays the name of the associated work queue, or Inbox if the work item is in a user queue.

  3. In the Participants list, select a work item to open.
    • If a work item is assigned to a work queue, the name of the queue displays in square brackets.
    • If a work item is assigned to a participant, the name of the user displays.
    • If a work item is locked by a user other than the one to whom it is assigned, the name of that user displays in parentheses.
  4. Click Open.
  5. In the work item, you can perform the actions required for this step.
