Logon and security issues for Process Configuration Console

To configure isolated regions, work queues, and rosters, you need access to the Process Configuration Console and to the workflow configuration.

Access to Process Configuration Console

Your client interface determines the logon requirements.

  • For Workplace:

If the PWConfiguration group exists, you must log on as a member of that group in order to run Process Configuration Console. (The PWConfiguration group is created by default during the installation process.) Otherwise, if the PWConfiguration group does not exist, any user who can log on can run Process Configuration Console.

  • For FileNet Web Services Client or Open Client:

If the PWConfiguration group exists, you must log on as a member of that group or the SysAdminG group in order to run Process Configuration Console. Otherwise, if the PWConfiguration group does not exist, any user who can log on can run Process Configuration Console.

Access to modify the workflow configuration

The ability to make changes to the workflow configuration can be restricted via the SysConfigG group. If the SysConfigG group exists, you must log on as a member of that group or the Process Engine administrators group (PEAdministrators by default for Workplace and SysAdminG for FileNet Web Services Client or Open Client) in order to modify the workflow configuration using the Process Configuration Console or any related APIs. Otherwise, if the SysConfigG group does not exist, any user who can log on can modify the workflow configuration.

The restricted configuration modifications are:

  • Initializing or emptying an isolated region.
  • Removing the workflow database.
  • Setting system-wide user information.
  • Configurating workflow rosters, queues, and event logs.
  • Setting region-wide configuration values.

For general information about logging on or about using the advanced options, see one of the following:

  • For Workplace see Sign in in Help for Workplace.
  • For FileNet Web Services Clientand Open Client see About logging on.
