Item Data Load Service

The transfer of data pertaining to items from the Sterling Warehouse Management System to VLP is accomplished by two services - one on the Sterling Warehouse Management System side, and the other on VLP side.

Sterling Warehouse Management System Data Upload Service

The Sterling Warehouse Management System provides an out-of-the-box YNW_ItemDataExporter_91 service to upload data pertaining to items into a shared folder, as shown in the following image.

VLP Event

VLP has provided an out-of-the-box VLP_PRODUCT_LOAD event in order to import data pertaining to the items from the common file. This inbound asynchronous event is also referred to as Import Product. This event is used to read the XML files uploaded to the common folder by the YNW_ ItemDataExporter_version service.

As part of the integration, the VLP_PRODUCT_LOAD event is associated to the SterlingWMS_VLPProductLoad transport on the VLP side. This transport is of the Sterling Local XML Reader transport type.

The following figure shows the SterlingWMS_VLPProductLoad transport associated to the VLP_PRODUCT_LOAD event.

The following figure shows the registration of the VLP_PRODUCT_LOAD event with the SterlingWMS_VLPProductLoad transport.

The following table represents attribute mapping for item data between the Sterling Warehouse Management System and VLP.

Notes:

  • During picking, the short description of an item is prompted to the picker as a voice prompt to enable the picker to identify the item that must be picked from the pick location. The Sterling Warehouse Management System relies on the TTS (Text To Speech) engine to render the short description of the item from text to speech. The TTS engine has limitations in rendering special characters such as #, &, and so forth. Therefore, it is recommended to define the short description of an item in a format that is easily understood by the TTS engine (without the use of special characters).
  • Ensure that the short description for an item in the Sterling Warehouse Management System is configured to a maximum of 32 characters because VLP has a 32-character limit for the Productpromptdescription field.
