Release
9.0 (or later) supports both sharded upgrade mode, which upgrades
all shards for all colonies in a sharded deployment, and nonsharded
upgrade mode. Consider the following conditions when choosing an upgrade
mode:
- If you are upgrading from a nonsharded environment,
you must upgrade in nonsharded mode. Release 8.2 (or earlier) supported
nonsharded environments only. Refer to the information in this chapter
for instructions on upgrading in nonsharded mode.
If
you are running a nonsharded deployment but want to enable a sharded
environment, you can set up a sharded environment after migrating
your data.
- If you are upgrading from a sharded environment,
you must upgrade in sharded mode. You cannot upgrade from a sharded
environment to a nonsharded environment. Release 8.5 (or later) supports
both nonsharded and sharded environments. Refer to the information
in this chapter for instructions on upgrading in sharded mode.
Sharded mode upgrades all colonies in your sharded environment.
If you want to upgrade one or more colonies without migrating all
colonies, follow the Colony-by-colony upgrade strategy.
