Considerations

This section explains the changes in between Release 9.3 and Release 8.0. This includes behavioral changes, as well as technical changes in APIs, agents, user exits, events, and the database.

Read this chapter to assess the requirements to migrate to Release 9.3, and then perform the upgrade process steps.

The following conventions are used when referring to the installation directory for Release 9.3 (and earlier).

<INSTALL_DIR>
This variable represents the user-supplied location of the installation directory (Release 8.0 and later) for the current runtime.
<INSTALL_DIR_OLD>
This variable represents the user-supplied location of the installation directory (Release 8.0 and later) for the old runtime.

Table 1 describes the upgrade paths followed by the system internally when upgrading from Release 7.3 (or later) to Release 9.3. If you are upgrading from Release 8.2 (or earlier) to Release 9.3, only nonsharded mode is supported. If you are upgrading from Release 8.5 (or later) to Release 9.3, you can upgrade in nonsharded or sharded mode.
