There are two EPI timeout conditions,
install timeout and
read timeout.
- Install timeout
- Install timeout is the maximum length of time that the CICS® Transaction Gateway or CICS Universal Client
will wait for a terminal to be installed on a CICS server. If a response
is not received from the server within the specified time, control is returned
to the user application with an appropriate return code. If the Client daemon is
subsequently notified that the terminal has been installed in the server,
the Client daemon deletes the terminal. If no install timeout value is specified,
there is no limit to the wait time.
- Read timeout
- Read timeout is the maximum length of time that the CICS Transaction Gateway or CICS Universal Client will
wait for a response from the user application. This period of time starts
when a user application has received an EXEC CICS RECEIVE or CONVERSE
command issued by CICS. A read timeout occurs if no data is returned before
the period specified has elapsed. If no read timeout value is specified, there
is no limit to the wait time. When a read timeout occurs, the transaction
on the CICS server is terminated abnormally.
