IBM Communications Server for Windows®

IBM® Communications Server writes a log file called pcwmsg.mlg, which can help to diagnose communications errors. Because it is a text file, you can view it in any text editor, or you can use the supplied Communications Server Log Viewer utility. The viewer includes online help.

Use the supplied Getsense utility to understand error messages that contain sense codes.

Your IBM support organization will need the log file if you have SNA errors that you cannot resolve. They may also ask you for a trace. To turn trace on, select the Communications Server Trace Facility. The trace facility has options to start and stop the trace, save it, and format it to a text file. IBM support will probably ask you to trace these components:
Function Component Trace options
APPN and APPC Nof API Verb trace up to 128 bytes
APPC API Verb trace up to 128 bytes
Connectivity (Your network type) Verb trace up to 128 bytes
For more details, see your IBM Communications Server documentation.
