IBM® WebSphere® Developer for System z, Version 7.0.1 - Additional Information

1.0 TXSeries support of Microsoft® Vista
2.0 HATS Integration

1.0 TXSeries support of Microsoft Vista

TXSeries® will install on Vista and can be used for syntax checking with both TXSeries and CICS® Transaction Server. However, you will not be able to run TXSeries CICS regions on Vista.

2.0 HATS Integration

WebSphere Developer for System z Version 7.0.1 provides license enablement allowing you to use Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) Rich Client Platform (RCP) applications within WebSphere Developer for System z. With this feature you can transform access to existing host applications using HATS RCP support.

Description of HATS

You can use Host Connect to have basic access to existing host applications. However, the "green screen" can be difficult to use, requiring training and knowledge of cryptic commands and codes. With HATS you can do the following:
  • Improve user experience by transforming 3270 and 5250 screens, including ISPF screens, into an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI)
  • Use the HATS Toolkit to easily customize your screens or use the default rendering rules that are shipped with HATS.
  • Use the power of macros to skip host screens and navigate directly to the data you want to access.
  • Use the capability of global variables to provide user input, such as log on credentials, to your host application.

Refer to the HATS User's Guide for instructions about customizing your HATS RCP application with the HATS Toolkit. Or simply use the HATS Toolkit wizard to specify a few minimum selections such as host session information and whether you want an application template, and accept the defaults to create a quick modernized look for your application.

Due to the license enablement function provided by WebSphere Developer for System z Version 7.0.1, you do not need to go through HATS runtime enablement before deploying your HATS RCP application to WebSphere Developer for System z.

Refer to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/hatshelp/v70/topic/com.ibm.hats.doc/doc/ugrcp.htm#rcp_install for information about installing HATS rich client applications into the WebSphere Developer for System z Eclipse environment.
