This technical preview contains the following new functions:
- Create new stored procedures using a wizard
- Build and register stored procedures on an OS/390 system
- Run stored procedures on an OS/390 system
- Debug stored procedures on an OS/390 system
- View result sets, messages, and parameters in the Output view
- Drop stored procedures from the database
The following limitations apply to this technical preview:
- Stored procedures built with this technical preview might not be compatible
with upcoming releases.
- Existing stored procedures cannot be migrated.
- Stored procedures cannot be changed on the OS/390 system and must
be dropped and rebuilt in order to change them.
- Schemas which contain no Tables might not be displayed in the DB Server
view.
- Host variables entered into SQL Assist appear as question marks in
the generated source.
- A double click on a stored procedure definition in the data definition
view will not open a COBOL or PL/I Stored Procedure in an edit session.
You must use the OPEN 390 Stored Procedure menu item.
- After a stored procedure has been created, the parameters to that
stored procedure cannot be changed.
- Parameters generated as a result of specifying one result set for
multiple queries will not appear in the parameters table on the following
wizard page. Parameters generated as a result of specifying SQL STATE, SQL
CODE, or both SQL STATE and SQL CODE will not appear in the parameters table
on the following wizard page.
- Some options that can appear in the CREATE PROCEDURE statement are
not available in the creation wizard pages. For these options, the user
must edit the DDL, and add these options if necessary.
4.1 Workstation Installation Instructions
Note: IBM WebSphere Studio Enterprise Developer 5.1.1 must be installed
before you can apply this technical preview.
- Download the DB2SP_UpdateMangerInstall.exe file to a temporary
directory on your workstation.
- Extract the contents to a temporary directory.
- Start Enterprise Developer.
- Click Help > Software Updates > Update Manager.
- In the Feature Updates view, expand My Computer.
- Browse to the temporary directory where the extracted files are stored.
- Expand db2sp, then expand DB2 Stored
Procedures Tech Preview.
- Select Os390SUBuilder Tech Preview 5.1.1
- In the Preview view, click Install Now. Click
Next.
- Read and accept the license agreement to continue the installation.
- Click Finish
- Click Install
- The installation process should complete within approximately 2 minutes.
When prompted, restart the workbench.
- Delete the temporary directory or the unzipped fix files to conserve
disk space.
4.2 OS/390 Installation Instructions
- Download the DB2SP_UpdateMangerInstall.exe file to a temporary
directory on your workstation.
- Extract the contents to a temporary directory.
- Follow the instructions contained in the Tech Preview.htm file located
in the wsed511\heds500\techprev directory.
Note: Uninstall of the tech preview code is not possible, but it
is possible to disable the installed feature using the following steps:
- Start Enterprise Developer.
- Click Help > Software Updates > Update Manger.
- In the Install Configuration view, expand IBM WebSphere Studio
Enterprise Developer.
- Expand file:.../eclipse (not .../wstools/eclipse).
- Select Os390SUBuilder Tech Preview 5.1.1
- In the Preview view, click Disable Now.
- Click Finish.
- When prompted, restart the workbench.
