Security fix for database userid and password in hpt.ini -------------------------------------------------------- This fix can only be installed on VAGen 3.1 FixPak 2. prompt.dat contains a fix for the problem of the database userid and password being written to hpt.ini unencrypted. With this code, each time VAGen Developer is started the user will be prompted for the database userid and password. The values entered on the prompt will be stored in the VAGen Preferences notebook. If the user wishes to change the values after the product has been started, they can go to the Preferences notebook. If the user cancels out of the prompt at startup, the userid and password in the preferences will be empty. The userid and password will not be written to hpt.ini. However, after installing this code, the existing userid and password values must be manually removed from hpt.ini. This code is a temporary fix for the problem and is not meant to be a long term solution. To install the new code: - Download prompt.dat from this site - From the VA Organizer, select Applications->Import/Export->Import Applications - Select prompt.dat - Select application HptSQLSupportApp, version VG 3.1 FP2 mc3 - After the application version has been imported, each developer will need to load the new version. After the fix is loaded, each user will need to manually edit hpt.ini to remove the existing userid and password lines. This only needs to be done once after the fix is installed.
