From the command line, the user would run SMITTY MMFS. Select FILE SYSTEM OPERATIONS from the list of options. From the menu, choose BACKUP A FILE SYSTEM CONFIGURATION. After filling in the entry fields for FILE SYSTEM NAME and BACKUP FILENAME, execute the program and the error will come up. The problem occurs because the FOLD command cannot handle cases where the LC_CTYPE=Ja_JP. The fix was made in /user/sbin/mktsb to resolve this issue. FILESETS: mmfs.base.cmds 2.2.0.2 SUPERSEDED PTFS: ---------------- IY13892 AIX bos.up/bos.mp 4.3.3.25 causes kernel panic in MMFS After installing bos.up or bos.mp at PTF level 4.3.3.25 (found in maintenance level 5 and higher) on a VideoCharger datapump machine, MMFS will not start, and will cause the system to crash with a Kernel PANIC. System error log shows a panic string of: "(desiredSRValue & 0x00FFFFFF) == (currentSRValue & 0x00FFFFFF)". After installing this PTF, the system must be rebooted in order for the fix to take effect.
