Installing Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 for Palm OS

Installing Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 on a "clean" device

To install Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 on a device which does not have a previous version of Everyplace Client installed on it, refer to the instructions in the Everyplace Client version 5.0 Fixpack 1 for Palm OS documentation. The documentation for Everyplace Client version 5.0 Fixpack 1 and Everyplace Client version 5.0 Fixpack 2 are identical.

Migrating to Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 using your desktop

Refer to the following instructions to migrate to Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 using your desktop:

  1. Run the uninstallation program on your desktop to uninstall the previous version of Everyplace Client.
  2. Uninstall the Invitation support from your device. To uninstall the invitation handler, perform a "no extensions" reset to keep the invitation handler from loading. To perform a "no extensions" reset, hold the up arrow key while you soft reset your device. Because the invitation handler is not loaded, you can delete the invitation handler as you would delete any other file. After you delete the invitation handler, soft reset your device to reload the other extensions.
  3. Refer to the installation instructions in the Everyplace Client version 5.0 Fixpack 1 for Palm OS documentation. to install Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 for Palm OS on your device.

Migrating to Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 from the Device Manager Server

Before you can update your device from the Device Manager Server, your administrator should have set up a software distribution job to deploy the application to your device. The following list describes the files you need to complete the migration. These files reside in the PalmOS_5020_DMS.zip file.

If migrating from version 4.3 or 5.0:
If migrating from version 5.0.1 or 5.0 Fixpack 1:

Notes:

  1. Before your administrator uploads the WEA5020_PalmOS_Mobility_MIGRATE package to the Device Management Server, you must update IBM Agent on your Palm device if you had Everyplace Client versions 4.3 or 5.0 previously installed. After you update your device with the IBM Agent provided with Everyplace Client version 5.0 Fixpack 2, your administrator can install the WEA5020_PalmOS_Mobility_MIGRATE package to the Device Management Server.
  2. Before you connect your device to the Device Manager Server to receive the WEA5020_PalmOS_BASE_MIGRATE.zip job, uninstall the invitation handler from the device. Refer to step 2 in "Migrating to Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 using your desktop" for instructions.
  3. Although the WEA5020_PalmOS_BASE_MIGRATE package displays the name "WEA 5.0 Fixpack 2 Base Client Migration for Palm NLV" in the DM console, the package includes English as well as NLV.

After your administrator sets up the software distribution jobs for the files in the previous list, you can migrate to Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 by completing a software update. Then, press the Menu key and tap Sync-> Replace Data to replace the data on your device with the current information on the server.

Note: Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 acquires the device ID from your device. If the device ID you were using in "IBM WEA" does not match the device ID in Everyplace Client Version 5.0 Fixpack 2 and you do not replace data after you migrate to Version 5.0 Fixpack 2, the server will display a data mismatch error on your device. The server will also force your device to replace the data on the device with the data on the server.

Verifying the installed version of Everyplace Client for 5.0 Fixpack 2 for Palm

To verify the correct versions have been properly installed, launch Everyplace and check the "Options -> About Everyplace" menu to verify the version information is v.5.0.2.0. Next, open the Palm launcher, select the "App -> Info" menu, locate Invitation and verify the version is also v.5.0.2.0.
