Completing installation tasks

This section describes how to install Everyplace Client, DateBk5 (a calendar application), and VersaMail (an e-mail application). Unzip the files in the 5.0.0-WEB-WEA-TECH-IF0001.zip package and complete the instructions in the following sections. Then, refer to the instructions in Configuring your device to configure Everyplace Client to work on your device.

Installing Everyplace Client for Palm OS

Refer to the following instructions to install Everyplace Client for Palm OS.

  1. On your desktop, browse to the directory where you unzipped the 5.0.0-WEB-WEA-TECH-IF0001.zip package and run setup.exe.
  2. Select the language for the installation and click Next.
  3. The license agreement will be displayed. After reading the agreement, close the window.
  4. The license agreement dialog will be displayed. To continue with the installation, accept the agreement by clicking Yes.
  5. Select the Setup type you want. From the list, you can either select the device that you will be using, or you can select Custom to choose the components you want to install. Click Next to continue.

    Note: If you selected Custom, select the components to be installed from the list. Click Next to continue.

  1. The next dialog displays the destination location where the Everyplace Client for Palm OS will be installed. It is recommended that you accept the default, or you can Browse to a preferred location. Click Next to continue.
  2. Review your installation settings in the next panel. To make any changes, click Back. To proceed, click Next.
  3. After the installation has completed, click Finish. The Everyplace Client for Palm OS is now installed on your desktop.
  4. Soft reset your device and use HotSync to install the Everyplace Client on your device.

Installing DateBk5

DateBk5 is a scheduling program that you can use instead of the Palm Date Book or Calendar. Refer to the following instructions to install DateBk5:

  1. On your desktop, browse to the directory where you unzipped the 5.0.0-WEB-WEA-TECH-IF0001.zip package.
  2. Unzip the DateBk5-v5.1b-s4.zip file on your desktop.
  3. Open the palmOne Quick Install application.
  4. Drag the files DateBk5.prc and dbSetup.prc onto the Handheld section of the palmOne Quick Install window. When palmOne Quick Install displays the files in the window, they are ready to HotSync to your device.
  5. Run HotSync on your device to install the DateBk5 files on your device.

Installing VersaMail

To install VersaMail 2.7 on your Treo 600, refer to the instructions in Acquiring VersaMail. After you download the installation package from the www.palmone.com Web site, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to install VersaMail on your device.

Configuring your device

After you install the applications onto your device using the instructions in the previous section, refer to the following sections to configure the applications you installed to work with Everyplace Client.

Configuring VersaMail

Refer to the following instructions to configure VersaMail on your device.

  1. Tap the VersaMail icon on the Home screen on your device.
  2. Record the account name on the initial screen for later use.
  3. Press the Home key and resume with the instructions in the following sections.

Configuring DateBk5

Refer to the following instructions to configure DateBk5 on your device.

  1. Before you configure DateBk5, tap the dbSetup icon on the Home screen on your device. Select the World Timezones check box, then tap Install Checked Items.
  2. Tap the DateBk5 icon on the Home screen on your device.
  3. The first time you run DateBk5, you will be asked to set it as your default datebook. Tap Yes.
  4. Configure your time zone information by tapping the top bar to view the menu.
  5. Select Options -> Preferences.
  6. Select the Zones tab.
  7. Tap the Home Zone field and select the correct time zone.
    Note: You must select a real time zone instead of All Time Zones.
  8. Tap OK.

Configuring Everyplace Client

Refer to the following instructions to configure Everyplace Client on your device.

  1. Tap the Everyplace Client icon on the Home screen on your device.
  2. An Everyplace window will notify you to set up a Default Network Profile. Tap OK.
  3. Enter the network profile name you want to use and tap the right arrow icon to proceed to the next panel.

    Note: You can tap OK at any time to return to the Network Settings panel.

  4. Enter your synchronization User ID and Password (or Portal User ID and Password) and tap the right arrow icon.
  5. Enter the address of the Everyplace Access Server and tap the right arrow icon.
  6. Configure the VersaMail account settings by choosing the account profile. If there is more than one account on your device, you can choose the account you want to use by tapping the VersaMail Account dropdown button and selecting the desired profile.
  7. Enter the email address for this account and tap the right arrow icon.
  8. Select DateBk5 or the default calendar application as the calendar to be used and tap the right arrow icon.
  9. Verify that the information for the SameTime Server is correct. Make any changes if necessary and tap the right arrow icon.
  10. Verify that the information for the DB2 Everyplace Server is correct. Make any changes if necessary and tap the right arrow icon.
  11. Verify that the information for the DMS Server is correct. Make any changes if necessary and tap the right arrow icon.
  12. Configure the WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager. Under Mobility Client Settings, choose None if you will only be connecting directly. Otherwise, choose Everyplace. Verify that the Server and Port information is correct, and make any changes if necessary. If you want to use the existing Everyplace Account User ID and Password, select the checkbox. To use a different User ID or Password, be sure that the Everyplace Account is not checked and enter the User ID and Password.
  13. Tap OK to exit the configuration and return to the Network Settings panel. The name of the profile you created is displayed in the upper left corner.
  14. Tap the Done.

Installing M-Router

Refer to the following instructions to install m-Router on your desktop. You can use m-Router to access your computer's network facilities from your Palm device.

  1. On your desktop, browse to the directory where you unzipped the 5.0.0-WEB-WEA-TECH-IF0001.zip package.
  2. Unzip the mRouter.zip package and run the installation program mRouter3Installer.exe.
  3. On the Welcome screen, tap Next.
  4. On the Setup Type screen, click to select Installation options, then click Next.
  5. Click Install to run the installation program.
  6. After the installation has run, select the Launch m-Router 3.0 checkbox if you want m-Router to run at this time. Click Finish.

Setting Network Preferences

Refer to the following instructions to enable your Palm device to connect to the network through your desktop.

Note: You can also refer to the mRouter documentation for more information. The mRouter documentation resides in the mRouter.zip package.

  1. Press the Home key to launch the Everyplace Client user interface.
  2. From the menu, select Options > Device Preferences.
  3. Select Network from the drop-down list in the upper right corner.
  4. From the menu, select Service -> New to create a new network connection or select an existing one that you want to modify.
  5. If the settings are locked, tap Modify to unlock them.
  6. Next to Service, enter a name for this service (for example, "mRouter").
  7. From the Connection drop-down list, select Cradle/Cable.
  8. There is no need to fill in a User ID or Password - you can leave them blank.

Additional information

To access the help for the main panel, tap on the time to open the menu bar. Then tap, Options->Help. You can tap the (i) icon on any panel in the Everyplace Client user interface to access online help for that panel.

Acquiring VersaMail

IBM has made arrangements with palmOne for palmOne to provide WebSphere Everyplace Access ("WEA") licensees with a copy of VersaMail 2.7, without charge, under the following conditions:

  1. These copies of VersaMail 2.7 are for the exclusive use of WEA licensees and only for use on palmOne Treo 600 Smartphones; and
  2. palmOne will not provide support for VersaMail 2.7 on the Treo 600 Smartphones. You should not contact palmOne directly for support of Versamail 2.7

 

Refer to the following instructions to obtain VersaMail 2.7:

  1. Go to the following secure Palm Web site: http://ps.palmone.com.
  2. Specify ibm@palmone.com as the username and Ver$aTreo as the password. (The password field is case sensitive.)
  3. Select IBM Versamail from the pull-down menu on the right side of the screen.
  4. Click Select Project .
  5. Click VersaMail Client .
  6. Click VersaMail 2.7 Archive to begin the download.

In addition, palmOne intends to replace VersaMail 2.7 with a subsequent version of VersaMail and will make this planned new release available to WEA licensees who had previously obtained VersaMail 2.7 through the secure Palm Web site mentioned above. palmOne will not charge for the license to the subsequent version of VersaMail. On release of this subsequent version of VersaMail, instructions on how to get a copy will be available at http://ps.palmone.com.

IBM, through an arrangement with palmOne, will provide WEA licensees with such support for VersaMail 2.7 that is received from the palmOne secure Web site mentioned above but only until the earlier of (a) the release or the successor product to VersaMail 2.7, (b) the expiration of any support you may have been entitled to for WEA or (c) December 31, 2004. This support can be obtained through the standard WEA support channels. Once the subsequent release of VersaMail is available, support for VersaMail 2.7 will be discontinued, and support for the subsequent release must be obtained directly from PalmOne.
