This * package can be distributed to any one who has a license for * this product. * *+----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ * * * PREREQUISITES : * * IBM Personal Communications AS/400 and 3270 for OS/2 Warp version 4.1 * IBM Personal Communications AS/400 for OS/2 Warp version 4.1 * * * CSD: IP08058(CSD2). The CSD must be installed for * APAR IC16099 to successfully work. This can * be obtained from the IBM SUPPORT CENTER for * your Country. For example in the U.S.A. you * can call 1-800-992-4777. * * PROBLEMS FIXED: IC16099 - Personal Communications traps(SYS2070) subsequent * to stopping/starting Novell connection or OS/2 * Workspace-On-Demand when there is no local fixed * disk and OS is running from a server. * * * * INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: * * IC16099.exe (*.exe in the steps below) is a self-extracting * file containing the shipped executables. * * The PARTS LIST is as follows: * * * SHIPPED (fn ft) REPLACES in \PCOMOS2 * PCSFONT.DLL PCSFONT.DLL * * Installing the fix on the system: * * 1) Be SURE to download *.exe file in BINARY format. * * 2) Stop Personal Communciations. * * 3) Create a Temp directory and copy *.exe into the temp directory and * execute the file. * * 4) Backup your previous versions of the parts listed in the * SHIPPED column in some manner. * * 5) Copy the files into the directories noted in the REPLACES column above. * * 6) Shutdown and reboot your system. * * 7) Restart Personal Communications * * * SCENARIO: * When Personal Communications is loaded, it loads three font files that * it uses for display. When Personal Communications is brought down, an * attempt is made to unload these three fonts, this attempt fails because * Personal Communications had loaded PCSANSI.FON as a public font and this * font is made available to the operating system for use by other * applications. Once loaded, a public font cannot be unloaded - short of * a reboot. * PROBLEM: * On network computers when a user brings up Personal Communications, * PCSANSI.FON(and a couple other fonts) are made available as a resource * to PMSHELL. When the user logs off, these resources are not removed * because Personal Communications attempt to unload these public fonts * fails. However, the network computer removes and reconnects all * network drives when a new user logs on. This makes the font files * unusable even though these font files are listed as PMSHELL resources. * So, when an attempt is made to restart Personal Communications, it * tries to use the already loaded PCSANSI.FON and fails because these * font files are unusable. * * SOLUTION: * The CLIENT code is often run from the server, from a location other than * C: and in a directory that may, or may not be on the root. In an * environment where many machines(PCs) are running their operating system * from the SERVER users may experience SYS2070 Errors if the CLIENT * cannot see the SERVER's fixed disk and the C: partition specifically. * To prevent installing the *.FON files in every CLIENT boot drive or * C:\PCOMOS2 directory, a common directory can be created that all clients * can see as being C:\PCOMOS2 and the .FON files can be placed in that * directory. This will allow the CLIENT to use the fonts from what it sees * as the LOCAL drive C:\PCOMOS2. The other option exists with this APAR fix * that when a C: drive exists and PCOMOS2 is not on the C: partition and is * run from the SERVER, you can create a C:\PCOMOS2 directory on the CLIENT * and copyt the .FON files there. Apply the fix module and the system will * look for the true C: partition where the .FON files exist. * * * CONTACT FOR Support: * * If you have any questions, please call the IBM SUPPORT CENTER * for your Country.
