Change to the solaris directory of the archive. 3. Use the pkgadd command to install the program files on the target system. This displays a list of installable packages. You can select one or more packages to install; the default is all packages. If you are using a non-partitioned database instance, type pkgadd -d db2extn.pkg If you are using a partitioned database instance (former EEE), type pkgadd -d db2exte.pkg Note: the product files are installed in /opt/IBM/db2ex/V8.1 5. Logout. Install on HP UNIX: ------------------- 1. Log in at the target client or server machine as the root user. 2. Change to the hpux/depot directory of the archive. 3. Use the swinstall of the operating system to install the program files on the target system. You need to install all of the components. Note: the product files are installed in /opt/IBM/db2ex/V8.1 5. Logout. Windows installation -------------------- To install on Windows: 1. Use the 'DB2_Extenders.exe' in the windows directory of the archive to install the program files on the target machine. 2. Reboot the system after data transfer. 3. To deinstall the product use the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Control Panel. 4. Note that the following two steps described below do not apply to Windows platforms. STEP 2 - ESTABLISH THE DB2 EXTENDERS INSTANCE (UNIX platforms only) Location of instance maintenance tools: AIX /usr/opt/db2ext_08_01/instance Solaris /opt/IBM/db2ex/V8.1/instance HP-UNIX /opt/IBM/db2ex/V8.1/instance Windows Adjustable. Default is \Program Files\IBM\dmb\instance Perform the following steps to create an Audio, Image, and Video Extenders instance: 1. Ensure you are active as the root user. 2. Change to the instance directory. 3. Run DMBICRT as follows: - for non partitioned instances ./dmbicrt instanceid - for partitioned instances (former EEE, not supported for HP UNIX) ./dmbicrt instanceid -q:db2mmdatapath where instanceid is an existing DB2 instance user ID or a user ID to be associated with a DB2 instance, and db2mmdatapath is the name of the directory or filesystem that is set in the DB2MMDATAPATH environment variable. Run dmbicrt after db2icrt. If a DB2 instance does not exist for the Extenders instance being created, dmbicrt will terminate execution with an error message. As dmbicrt runs, you are prompted to confirm the request to create an instance for the DB2 Image, Audio, and Video Extenders for the specified instanceid. Respond Y or N. If you are installing only an Extenders client, run DMBICRT as follows: ./dmbicrt -s client instanceid where instanceid is an existing DB2 instance user ID or a user ID to be associated with a DB2 instance. This sets up the environment for using the Extenders. Running dmbicrt creates the /u/instanceid/dmb directory. Do not create additional files or directories under /u/instanceid/dmb; these files will be lost if the instance is deleted. As dmbicrt runs, you are prompted to confirm the following: - The request to make instanceid a DB2 instance owner (if it is not already a DB2 instance owner). Respond YES or NO. - The request to create an instance for the DB2 Image, Audio, and Video Extenders for the specified instanceid. Respond YES or NO. 4. Logout. Note: New DB2 instances created with db2icrt are automatically enabled for Audio, Image, and Video Extenders usage. STEP 3 - ESTABLISH THE DB2 EXTENDERS INSTANCE ENVIRONMENT 1. Login as instanceid. 2. Profile scripts for the C shell, Korn shell, and Bourne shell are pro- vided to establish the DB2 Extenders environment: - dmbcshrc for C shell users - dmbprofile for Korn and Bourne shell users. The dmbcshrc and dmbprofile shell scripts contain statements that update paths in your operating system and set environment variables. To establish the DB2 Extenders instance environment, include the DB2 Extenders instance profile into the login profile for the instanceid user ID. Add the following statements to the end of the login profile: - For the C shell, add the following to .login: setenv LANG En_US source dmb/dmbcshrc - For the Korn and Bourne shells, add the following to the .profile: export LANG=En_US . dmb/dmbprofile 3. Logout. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MIGRATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- After installation is complete, migrate any existing DB2 Extenders instances that you have created with a previous version of Audio, Image, and Video Extenders using the dmbiupdt tool in the instance directory of the installation. 1. Log in at the target server machine as the root user. 2. Switch to the instance directory of the installation. 3. Issue ./dmbiupdt instanceid where instanceid is an existing instance that had been created with a previous version of the Audio, Image, and Video Extenders. 4. Logout. Refer to the DB2 Universal Database Image, Audio, and Video Extenders Administration and Programming for more information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTANCE MAINTENANCE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can also list the instances of the DB2 Extenders server that are available on a system, select an instance to use, run multiple instances concurrently, and remove instances. CREATING AND MANAGING MULTIPLE INSTANCES For complete information on DB2 Extenders instances, refer to the publications: - DB2 Universal Database Image, Audio, and Video Extenders Administration and Programming You can create and use multiple instances of the DB2 Extenders server. Each instance of the DB2 Extenders server is associated with an instance of the DB2 server. To create multiple instances of the DB2 Extenders server, repeat step 2 ("Establish the DB2 Extenders instance") for each instance that you want to create. LISTING INSTANCES Execute the dmbilist command to list all instances of the DB2 Extenders server that are available on a system. The dmbilist command is in the instance directory of the installation directory. To find out which instance is active, enter the following command: echo $DB2MMTOP SELECTING AN INSTANCE You specify which instance of the DB2 Extenders server to use by setting the DB2INSTANCE environment variable to the login name of the instance owner. RUNNING MULTIPLE INSTANCES CONCURRENTLY To run multiple instances of the DB2 Extenders server concurrently, we recommend that you: - Login or su to a user with sysmaint or higher authority for the instance. - Set the environment. - Start the database manager. If you use the su command, specify the - flag to make sure the correct user environment is initialized. For example: su - inst2 REMOVING INSTANCES To remove an instance of the DB2 Extenders server: 1. End all applications that are currently using the instance. 2. Stop extender services and the db2ext command-line processor. Issue the dmbstop and db2ext terminate commands. 3. Backup files in the INSTHOME/dmb directory if needed, such as qbic, where INSTHOME is the home directory of the instance owner. 4. As root, execute the dmbidrop command as follows: dmbidrop instanceName where instanceName is the name of the instance being dropped. The dmbidrop command removes the instance entry from the list of instances and erases the INSTHOME/dmb directory. The dmbidrop command does not remove the associated DB2 instance. 5. As root, remove the instance owner's userID and group (if used only for that instance). Do not remove these if you are planning to recreate the instance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTICES ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBM may not offer the products, services, or features discussed in this document in all countries.
