This chapter contains information on steps you can take to enhance the performance of DB2 OLAP Server and the DB2 OLAP Starter Kit. Some of the information in this chapter appears elsewhere in this manual.
Some of the guidelines in this chapter should be followed as you design your system; other guidelines are part of an iterative tuning process. It is difficult to predict the size and performance of an OLAP application without actually building at least part of the application. Building and tuning a representative subset of the complete application, and then applying some of the guidelines in this chapter, can optimize the performance of your system.
The relational storage manager is more sensitive to performance tuning than the multidimensional storage manager.. Many of the performance tuning techniques described in the Database Administrator's Guide are valid for the multidimensional storage manager, as well as the guidelines described in this chapter.
