OLAP Setup and User's Guide

About this Book

DB2 OLAP Server and the DB2 OLAP Starter Kit (which is part of DB2 Universal Database) are based on products from Hyperion Solutions Corporation. This book was written by IBM and is intended to be used with books and online help written by Hyperion. You will see references to Hyperion and Hyperion's products in the interface and throughout the Hyperion books. Only the relevant Hyperion books are included with the DB2 OLAP Server and the DB2 OLAP Starter Kit; these books and the exceptions are listed in Related Publications.

The DB2 OLAP Starter Kit is included free with DB2 Universal Database and contains limited-function versions of DB2 OLAP Server and DB2 OLAP Integration Server. The full-function version of DB2 OLAP Integration Server is available as an add-on product for DB2 OLAP Server.

This book provides detailed information about using DB2 OLAP Server and the DB2 OLAP Starter Kit with a relational database management system (RDBMS) and with multidimensional data stored in your operating system's file system. It also contains information about how to use standard Structured Query Language (SQL) statements to access the multidimensional data that DB2 OLAP Server stores in relational tables.

If you do not intend to access relational data with DB2 OLAP Server, then you will be using the multidimensional storage manager and only Part 1, "Installation" is relevant to your situation. If you intend to access DB2 data, then you will be using the relational storage manager, and the entire book is relevant. Note that in Part 2, "Using DB2 OLAP Server", the term DB2 OLAP Server generally refers to the relational storage manager.
