Following along interactively with Query 2

To follow along interactively with Query 2 (the basic query after running runstats), display the access plan graph for Query 2. This snapshot is identified by the number 3 under Query Number in the Explained Statements History window.

Note that total cost is shown in the text above the graph. It is also shown on the Explained Statements History window, where it is easy to compare with the estimated cost of other explain snapshots.

• To more easily distinguish operators (such as SORT and TBSCAN), you can change the color of selected nodes by selecting View->Settings. The Access Plan Graph Settings notebook opens. Use the Basic, Extended, Update, and Miscellaneous tabs to select the type of operator.

  Note: On OS/2, these tabs are displayed when you select the Operator tab.

• To display the Table Statistics window for the ORG table, double-click on the ORG table node in the graph.
• To look at the predicates for MSJOIN (4), double-click on this node in the graph. The Operator Details window opens.
• To look at the predicates for MSJOIN (5), double-click on this node in the graph. The Operator Details window opens.
• To view the details for a single operator or to view the statistics for a table or an index, double-click on any object in the graph.
