Data elements

Data elements, in the Performance Monitor, are values returned by the database system monitor when a performance snapshot is taken. Data elements can be classified as follows:

• Timestamp elements
  • A timestamp that indicates the date and time that an activity took place.
• Value elements
  • Value elements are either gauge or counter elements. A gauge element indicates the current value for an item. Gauge elements can go up or down depending on database activity (for example, the number of locks held). A counter element counts the number of times an activity occurs (for example, the number of deadlocks). Counter values increase during monitoring and can only be set to zero by resetting them.
• Information elements
  • An information element provides reference-type details of database activities.

Timestamp elements and value elements are used to calculate performance variables. To view the value of a data element in the Performance Monitor, the element must be used in a performance variable equation.

Only some data elements are supported by the Performance Monitor. For more information about data elements, see "Database System Monitor Data Elements" in the System Monitor Guide and Reference. Not all data elements can be viewed in the Performance Monitor.
