Displaying or changing data set template
defaults
Use the Data Set Template Defaults window
to display or change data set templates.
Data set templates are objects that define
a data set naming convention, DF/SMS parameters,
and media parameters to be applied to newly
created data sets. Utilities use data set
templates to dynamically allocate the data
sets they require.
Using a data set template for naming data
sets helps you keep large numbers of data
sets organized by generating data set names
based on custom parameters defined in the
template. When using a utility you can specify
the name of a data set template instead of
creating the name for a new data set yourself
thus, making searching and identifying data
sets a simpler task.
