This collection of associated fields specifies the type of backup that you want to take, and the available options for that type of backup. Specify the type of backup image to take in the Media Type box, and the associated fields will change. The choices are as follows:

Specify directories or Tapes (for NT and UNIX--based systems; Specify directories for OS/2 system)
Specifies to write the backup image to either a directory or to tape. Specify the correct path or paths for the backup image in the Specify directories box.

You can select more than one path for the backup to back up the table space or table space partition to more than one location. In this situation, the resulting backup image will be spread across multiple locations, and all the images will have the same time stamp.

For single-partition database environments only. To see the list of available directories and tape devices, click on Browse.

Tivoli Storage Manager
Specifies that the backup image is to be handled by the Tivoli Storage Manager server. Use the Sessions field to specify the number of Tivoli Storage Manager sessions that you want. To reset the number of sessions to the default value (1), click on Default.

Vendor DLL
Specifies that the backup image is written by a vendor DLL. Specify the DLL name in the DLL field, and use the Sessions field to specify the number of DLL sessions that you want. To reset the number of sessions to the default value (1), click on Default.

For single-partition database environments only. To select a DLL from your disk, click on Browse.

User Exit (OS/2 system only)
Specifies that the backup image is written by a user exit. No other information is required.

When you specify this option, the user exit that is bound to the database is called. For more information about creating and using user exit programs, see the Administration Guide.

" " Backup Image

Specifies the estimated size of the backup image for the table space or table space partition. If you are writing the backup image to a directory, you must ensure that the target directory has enough free space to hold the backup image.

Options page

Use the Options notebook page of the backup notebook to specify whether the backup is to be online or offline and specify performance options for the backup operation.

Controls

" " Process while

Select one of the following radio buttons to specify whether the backup operation is to be done online or offline.
Note:You can only back up a table space or table space partition if the database or database partition is already configured for forward recovery (that is, either the userexit or logretain database configuration parameter, or both, is set on), and a full offline backup of the database or database partition has already been taken.

Offline
The backup operation occurs offline (that is, no other application or user can be connected to the table space or table space partition when the backup is in progress). This is the default.

Online
The backup operation occurs online (that is, other applications and users can be connected to the table space or table space partition when the backup is in progress).

" " Performance

Use the following fields to specify the number and size of the buffers to be used for the backup operation. You can increase the number of buffers or the size of each buffer (or both) to cause the backup table space operation to complete faster. Note that increasing the value specified for either option causes the backup operation to use more memory.

Number of buffers
Type the number of buffers that are used for the backup operation. The default is 2. The valid range is from 1 to 65535.

Size of each buffer in 4KB pages
Type the size of each buffer in 4 KB pages. The current value is specified in the database configuration file. The default is 1024, and the range is from 16 to 524288.
