Instance name

Enter the name of the instance you want to add to the node directory. This name:

• Can contain from 1 to 8 characters
• Must begin with one of the following:
  • A through Z
  • @, #, or $
• Can include these other characters:
  • A through Z
  • 0 through 9
  • @, #, $, and _ (underscore)

Refresh

Select Refresh to get a list of all the remote instances for the system you are in. This method of discovering instances is only available when the DISCOVER configuration parameter for the instance is set to either known or search.

Remote instance

Enter the name of the remote instance you want to add or change. This name:

• Can contain from 1 to 8 characters
• Must begin with one of the following:
  • A through Z
  • @, #, or $
• Can include these other characters:
  • A through Z
  • 0 through 9
  • @, #, $, and _ (underscore)

Protocol

Select the type of communications protocol to use. The protocol can be any of the following:

• APPC
• IPX/SPX
• NetBIOS
• TCP/IP
• Named pipe (Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 only)

Protocol parameters

If the chosen protocol requires parameters, enter them in the Protocol parameters area. The fields change according to the protocol selected. Select a protocol from the following list to see the parameters for that protocol:

• APPC
• IPX/SPX
• NetBIOS
• TCP/IP
• Named pipe (Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 only)

Note:

Only the protocols that the computer is currently setup for appear in the listbox.

Comment (system)

Type a comment of up to 30 characters, including embedded blanks, in this box.
