Optimizing ODBC Access

DB2 Universal Database provides special optimization designed to improve communication performance through ODBC. These enhancements are available to Microsoft Access, Lotus Approach, or Visual Basic. You can gain the benefit of faster ODBC throughput using DB2's Client Configuration Assistant (CCA).

To activate the optimized ODBC, perform the following:

If you are defining a new connection:

  1. Start the DB2 CCA.
  2. Select the database alias that you want to optimize.
  3. Click the Properties push button.
  4. Ensure that the Register this Database for ODBC check box is selected.
  5. Select the radio button that describes how you would like to register this database.
  6. Click the Settings push button.
  7. Click the Optimize push button and select the application whose OBDC settings you wish to optimize.
  8. Click OK and exit the CCA.

If you are updating an existing connection:

  1. Start the DB2 CCA.
  2. Select the database alias that you want to optimize.
  3. Click the Properties push button.
  4. Click the Settings push button.
  5. Click the Optimize push button from the CLI/ODBC Settings Window and select the application for which you want to optimize.
  6. Click OK and exit the CCA.
