Quick Beginnings for Windows NT**

Before You Begin

Before you begin the installation, ensure that you have the following items and information:

__  1.

Ensure that your system meets all of the memory, hardware, and software requirements to install your DB2 product. For more information, see Planning for Installation.

__  2.

A user account that will be used to perform the installation. The account you specify must:

  • Be defined on the local machine.

  • Belong to the Local Administrator's group.

  • Have the Act as part of the operating system advanced user right.

    Figure hint not displayed.

You can perform the installation without the Act as part of the operating system advanced user right, however, the setup program will be unable to validate the account that you specify for the Administration Server. We recommend that any user account used to install this product have this advanced user right.

For information on how to grant user rights, refer to the Windows NT online help.

__  3.

During installation, you will provide a user account that will be used by the Administration Server to log on to the system and to start itself as a service. The account you specify must:

  • Be defined on the local machine.

  • Belong to the Local Administrator's group.

  • Have the Act as part of the operating system advanced user right.

By default, the setup program will create a user account using the username db2admin and password db2admin. You can accept these default values, create you own user account by modifying the default values, or provide you own. If you create or provide you own user account, ensure that it conforms to DB2's naming rules. For more information, see Appendix F. Naming Rules.

Figure hint not displayed.

If you use the default user account db2admin, and do not change the default password on the setup screen, you should change this password immediately following the installation since db2admin is the default password for any installation and is therefore well known.

To change the password that is associated with the Administration Server, entering the following command:

   db2admin setid username password

__  4.

To verify that DB2 installed correctly, you will need to have a user account that belongs to the System Administrative (SYSADM) group, is 8 characters or less, and complies with all of DB2's naming rules.

By default, any user that belongs to the Local Administrators group, on the local machine where the account is defined, has SYSADM authority on the instance. For more information, see Working with the System Administrative Group. For more information on valid DB2 usernames, see Appendix F. Naming Rules.
