Performing roll-forward recovery

Use the Roll-Forward page of the restore notebook to perform roll-forward recovery on the table space or table space partition as part of the restore operation.

Note:

In a partitioned database environment, you restore at the table space partition level.

To perform roll-forward recovery on the table space or table space partition:

1. Open the restore notebook:
   • Open the Restore Table Space notebook.
   • Open the Restore Table Space Partition notebook.

2. On the Backup Image page, specify the backup image that you want to use to restore the table space or table space partition:

   • To use one of the backup images that are displayed, click on Select an entry from the list, then select the backup image that you want to use.

     If you have already created a backup image of the table space from this administrative client, Select an entry from the list is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition indicates that a backup image is available.

     If you know that the media type that is displayed for the backup image is not correct, then use the fields that are displayed under Change the media information if necessary to specify the correct media type for the backup image.

   • To use a backup image that is not displayed, click on Manually enter the backup image information. Use the fields that are displayed with Manually enter the backup image information to specify the backup image that you want to use.

     If you have not already created a backup image of the table space or table space partition from this administrative client, Manually enter the backup image information is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition does not contain any backup history for the table space.

3. On the Roll-Forward page, click on Roll-Forward to indicate that you want to perform roll-forward recovery. Then specify the type of roll-forward recovery that you want:

   • End-of-log recovery. All changes recorded in the logs are reapplied to the table space.

     Note:

     In a partitioned database system, if you intend to roll forward a table space partition to the end of the logs, you do not have to restore it at each database partition. You only need to restore it at the database partitions that require recovery.

   • Point-in-time recovery. Changes in the logs up to and including the date and time indicated are reapplied to the table space.

     Note:

     In a partitioned database environment, if you want to roll forward a table space to a point in time, you must restore the table space partition at each database partition that contains a portion of the table space, and roll forward each table space partition individually to the same point in time. This ensures that the table space is consistent at each node.

4. Click on OK to begin the restore operation.

After the table space or table space partition is restored, it will be in the roll-forward pending state. To make it usable, use the Roll-Forward Table Space notebook.
