Performing roll-forward recovery

Use the Roll-Forward page of the restore notebook to perform roll-forward recovery on the database or database partition as part of the restore operation.

Note:

In a partitioned database environment, you restore at the database partition level.

To perform roll-forward recovery on the database or database partition:

1. Open the restore notebook:
   • Open the Restore Database notebook.
   • Open the Restore Database Partition notebook.
   • Open the Restore notebook from the Journal.

2. On the Backup Image page, specify the backup image that you want to use for the restore operation:

   • To use one of the backup images that are displayed, click on Select an entry from the list, then select the backup image that you want to use.

     If you have already created a backup image of the database or database partition from this administrative client, Select an entry from the list is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition indicates that a backup image is available.

     If you know that the media type that is displayed for the backup image is not correct, then use the fields that are displayed under Change the media information if necessary to specify the correct media type for the backup image.

   • To use a backup image that is not displayed, click on Manually enter the backup image information. Use the fields that are displayed with Manually enter the backup image information to specify the backup image that you want to use.

     If you have not already created a backup image of the database or database partition from this administrative client, Manually enter the backup image information is preselected because the recovery history file for the database or database partition does not contain any backup history.

3. On the Roll-Forward page, click on Roll-Forward to indicate that you want to perform roll-forward recovery. Then specify the type of roll-forward recovery that you want:

   • End-of-log recovery. All changes recorded in the logs are reapplied to the database or database partition.

     Note:

     If you need to restore a single database partition, you can perform roll-forward recovery to the end of the logs to bring it up to the same level as the other database partitions for the database.

   • Point-in-time recovery. Changes in the logs up to and including the date and time indicated are reapplied to the database or database partition.

     Note:

     In a partitioned database environment, the database is located across many nodes. In this environment, if you are performing point-in-time roll-forward recovery, all database partitions must be rolled forward to ensure that all partitions are at the same level.

4. On the Roll-Forward page, clear the Leave in roll-forward pending state check box to turn it off. This makes the database or database partition usable immediately after the restore operation. (By default, this check box is on).

5. Click on OK to begin the restore operation.
