2The most up-to-date documentation is available in the latest version 2of the DB2 Information Center accessed through a browser. A revision 2mark indicates text that has been added or changed since the PDF information 2for version 8.1 was originally made available. A vertical bar 2(|) indicates information that was added at the time that version 8.1 2was first released. A numeric indicator, such as a 1 or a 2, indicates 2that the information was added for the FixPak or release level ending in the 2same number. For example, a 1 indicates that the information was added 2or changed in FixPak 1, a 2 indicates that the information was changed for 2Version 8.1.2.

1The Data Links Manager Administration Guide and Reference 1was updated in PDF form (book number SC27-1221-01) at the time of FixPak 1, 1and is available for download at the DB2 support site.

1Multiple FixPaks for Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) operating on 1UNIX-based systems

1Version 8 for DB2 Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) operating on UNIX-based 1operating systems now supports the coexistence of multiple FixPak levels 1through the use of Alternate FixPaks.

1Prior to DB2 Version 8, FixPaks only functioned as updates to an installed 1package or fileset. Essentially, this meant that the O/S installer 1would replace existing files with the updated ones provided within the 1FixPak. DB2 ESE Version 8.1 code and DB2 ESE Version 8.1 1FixPak 1 code can now both be installed at the same time. This is 1accomplished by the fact that there are now two FixPaks for ESE on UNIX-based 1operating systems. The first one is the Regular FixPak which 1is installed directly on top of the existing installation either in 1/usr/opt/db2_08_01 or /opt/IBM/db2/V8.1. 1The second one is an Alternate FixPak which installs a completely 1new copy of DB2 in a separate location with the FixPaks already 1applied. Alternate FixPaks are intended to be used for testing FixPaks 1alongside production systems, but not to be used as the production system 1itself.

1Notes:

  1. 1The installation paths used in this documentation all specify the default 1path even though the product may have been installed somewhere else.

  2. 1You are not required to perform a multiple FixPak installation 1if you do not feel it is necessary for your environment.

  3. 1There is currently no plan to support the application of a regular FixPak 1on top of an Alternate FixPak. Therefore, the Alternate FixPak is 1intended for use alongside your production environment, but not as your 1primary production system.. 1
