If you install the HTML documentation and do not install DB2 DB2 Version 8.1.2, some of the information may not be applicable. 1a) Checking the level of the documentation You can check the level of the documentation when you view the documentation from the HTML Information Center. Procedure To lanuch the HTML Information Center: 1. Log on to a DB2 instance ID. 2. On a UNIX shell prompt or a Windows command prompt enter the db2help command. The update level will be listed in the toolbar window. The update level that appears in the Information Center for DB2 Version 8.1.2 is "Update 2". 1b) IBM FTP server DB2 Documentation can also be downloaded from IBM's anonymous FTP server at ftp.software.ibm.com. Go to ps/products/db2/fixes/%L/%P/ where: * %L represents the appropriate locale, for example, english-us, spanish, german. * %P represents the supported platform name/version. The doc_install --q --i script that you use to check this is found on your CD-ROM, or inside of the image that you downloaded. Procedure To check which HTML documentation topics are installed on your system: 1. Run the doc_install --q --i script. 2. Check to see if you get the following sample output: core-en_US admin-en_US start-en_US core-fr_FR admin-fr_FR start-fr_FR If you do not receive any output, then there are no HTML documentation topics installed on your system. 1c.ii) Installing the DB2 HTML documentation on UNIX-based operating systems Prerequisites * Ensure that your system meets installation, memory, and disk requirements. * You must have root authority to install the documentation. Restrictions * When you install the DB2 HTML documentation on an environment that already has DB2 installed on it, the documentation will be installed on the same partition that DB2 is installed on. Procedure To install the DB2 HTML documentation on UNIX(R) operating systems: Note: If you are installing the DB2 Version 8.1.2 HTML documentation from the CD media, then skip steps 1 and 2 below and start the installation at step 3. 1. Download the appropriate UNIX documentation file for the set of languages you require. FP#_$PTF_DOC_UNIX_SBCS1.tar(.Z) English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese. FP#_$PTF_DOC_UNIX_SBCS2.tar(.Z) English, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Slovak, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic. FP#_$PTF_DOC_UNIX_NORDIC_RU_PL.tar(.Z) English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Russian, Polish. FP#_$PTF_DOC_UNIX_JP_KR.tar(.Z) English, Japanese and Korean. FP#_$PTF_DOC_UNIX_SC_TC.tar(.Z) English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. where # represents the FixPak number and $PTF represents the related PTF number for the Documentation. 2. Untar the file, or decompress and then untar the file. 3. If you are installing the documentation for the first time, refer to the instructions in the readme.txt file. If you are updating your existing documentation, then run the installFixPak command. The installFixPak command does not install any additional topics, it only updates the topics in the existing documentation installed on your computer. 1c.iii) Installing the DB2 HTML documentation on Windows Prerequisites * Ensure that your system meets installation, memory, and disk requirements. * You must have a local Administrator user account with the recommended user rights to install the documentation. Restrictions * When you install the DB2 HTML documentation on an environment that already has DB2 installed on it, the documentation will be installed on the same partition that DB2 is installed on. Procedure To install the DB2 HTML documentation on Windows Note: If you are installing the DB2 Version 8.1.2 HTML documentation from the CD media, then skip the download steps and the CD burning steps below. 1. Download the appropriate Windows documentation file for the set of languages you require. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese. This product download contains the set up program required on Windows for installing any other language versions of the DB2 HTML documentation. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NORDIC_RU_PL.zip English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Russian, and Polish. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS2.zip English, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Slovak, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, and Arabic. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_JA_KO.zip English, Japanese, and Korean. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SC_TC.zip English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NLV.exe Complete language version: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Russian, Polish, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Slovak, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Dutch, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. This file also contains the set up program required to install the HTML documentation. You do not need to download FP2_U486249_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip. For English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese languages a. Download the FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip file. b. After the file has been downloaded, unzip its contents. This zip file's contents will be placed in a folder called DISK1. c. From the DISK1 folder, click setup.exe to bring up the DB2 Launchpad. Click Install Products and then click Next to launch the DB2 Setup wizard. For documentation in any other languages, you have two options: a. Download the complete set of the DB2 HTML documentation in all available languages. Note: The file size is approximately 600 MB. 1) FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NLV.exe file which contains the DB2 HTML documentation in all available languages. 2) After the file has been downloaded, unzip its contents by running the FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NLV.exe file. 3) From the folder where you extracted the contents of FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NLV.exe file, click setup.exe to bring up the DB2 Launchpad. Click Install Products and then click Next to launch the DB2 Setup wizard. b. Download the appropriate CD-ROM installation images and burn them onto CD-ROMs. You can also order the CD media. 1) Regardless of which languages you wish to install, you must download the FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip file, or have CD volume 1 ready. This file, or CD volume 1, contains the set up program required for any installation. 2) Download any other zip file(s), or any other CD volumes, that you require. 3) Unzip and burn the contents of FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip and any other zip file(s) you downloaded. Note: When you burn these images from downloaded files, you must label the CD-ROM volume exactly as follows: FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS1.zip DISK 1 FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_NORDIC_RU_PL.zip DISK 2 FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_SBCS2.zip DISK 3 FP#_$PTF_DOC_WIN_JA_KO.zip DISK 4 FP#_#PTF_DOC_WIN_SC_TC.zip DISK 5 4) Insert the DISK 1, or CD volume 1, CD-ROM and type the setup command to bring up the DB2 Launchpad.
