DB2 Client Application Enabler for Windows 95 and Windows NT V2.1.2 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation Instructions ------------------------- Before you begin installing this product, you must first unpack the program files: 1) Copy the file WIN32CAE.ZIP to a directory on your hard disk. eg. copy win32cae.zip c:\db2 2) Change to the above directory, and issue the following command: pkunzip -d win32cae.zip (You will need the pkunzip.exe utility for this to work. The -d option is required to recreate the install subdirectories.) This will create 11 subdirectories named DISK1 to DISK12. To start the install, change to the DISK1 directory and issue the command SETUP. Installation on NT 3.5.0 ------------------------- The graphical tools provided with DB2 for Windows NT require NT 3.5.1 or later. This includes the Administrator's Toolkit, the Client Setup Utility and the DB2 ODBC Administrator. As a result when you install on an NT 3.5.0 system, these tools will NOT be installed. If you choose to install ODBC support a separate dll named DB2ODBC.350 is copied to the miscellaneous directory (\misc) in the install path. eg c:\sqllib\misc. You must use the Microsoft ODBC administrator provided in the control panel to register DB2 data sources. Before you can use the Microsoft ODBC administrator you must FIRST copy DB2ODBC.350 to the SYSTEM32 directory in the NT system directory. eg c:\winnt35\system32 AND rename it to DB2ODBC.DLL (replacing the existing version of that DLL created during the install). Handling File Copy Errors ------------------------- Setup attempts to replace certain files in the Windows system directory, if the current versions of these files are lower than that required by DB2. However, if a file is currently in use by another application or service, Setup will be unable to replace it. Setup logs the error message returned by the operating system during the failed copy operation and notifies the user that an error has occurred. To remedy this situation: o Shut down any other running application. o Stop any services that are running. o Run Setup again. Further Considerations ---------------------- Installation notes, usage notes, environment considerations, and any documentation changes are described in another version of the readme that can be found in the install path. eg C:\sqllib ------------------------------------------------------------------- * are trademarks or registered trademarks of IBM Corporation. ** are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. ------------------------------------------------------------------- *********************************************************************** ** ** ** ** ** (c) COPYRIGHT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION 1996. ** ** ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ** ** ** ***********************************************************************
