*********************************************************************** ** ** ** (c) COPYRIGHT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION 1995. ** ** ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ** ** ** *********************************************************************** Welcome to IBM Database Server for Windows NT** Version 4.0.1! This README file contains installation notes for the following Database Server products and components: o DB2 Server (DB2 for Windows NT Version 2.1.2) o DB2 World Wide Web Connection for Windows NT o Distributed Database Connection Services Multi-User Gateway for Windows NT (DDCS Multi-User Gateway for Windows NT Version 2.3.1) For information, see also Part Number Publication ----------- ------------------------------------------ 59H0727 IBM Database Server for Windows NT Up and Running! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Installation Instructions ------------------------- Simply enter the following command on a command line: :\\DISK1\SETUP.EXE where is your CD-ROM drive letter, and is a two letter language directory (see the CD-ROM booklet for the list of available languages). Installation on Windows NT 3.5.0 -------------------------------- The graphical tools provided with DB2 for Windows NT require Windows NT 3.5.1 or later. This includes the Administrator's Toolkit, the Client Setup Utility and the DB2 ODBC Administrator. As a result, when you install on a Windows NT 3.5.0 system, these tools will NOT be installed. If you choose to install ODBC support, a separate dll named DB20DBC.350 is copied to the miscellaneous directory (\misc) in the install path, e.g. c:\sqllib\misc. You must use the Microsoft ODBC administrator provided in the control panel to register DB2 data sources. Before you can use the Microsoft ODBC administrator, you must FIRST copy DB20DBC.350 to the SYSTEM32 directory in the Windows NT system directory, e.g. c:\winnt35\system32 AND rename it to DB20DBC.DLL (replacing the existing version of that DLL created during the install). Handling File Copy Errors ------------------------- Setup attempts to replace certain files in the Windows system directory, if the current versions of these files are lower than that required by DB2. However, if a file is currently in use by another application or service, Setup will be unable to replace it. Setup logs the error message returned by the operating system during the failed copy operation and notifies the user that an error has occurred. The error message that is logged could be an "out of memory" message. To remedy this situation: o Shut down any other running application. o Stop any services that are running. o Run Setup again. Out of Memory Message --------------------- If you get a message that you have run out of memory during installation, it may mean that a file is locked and cannot be replaced. To get past this problem, stop the application that is using the file and retry installing the product. This is the same problem as discussed in "Handling File Copy Errors" above. DB2 Performance Counter Instance Names are Truncated to 1 Character ------------------------------------------------------------------- When adding DB2 performance counters to a PERFMON.EXE chart, the instance name for DB2 performance counters will be truncated to 1 character on Windows NT 3.5.1 with Service Pack 2 or later. This problem also occurs on Windows NT 4.0. This problem has been documented in the MSDN Library in the Knowledge Base under article Q148846. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services for additional information. DDCS for Windows V2.4 --------------------- DDCS for Windows V2.4 is not supported on Windows NT V3.5.0. You must install the product on Windows NT V3.5.1 or later. Coexistence with DB2 V2.1.x and Database Server V4.0 Products ------------------------------------------------------------- The Database Server for Windows NT CD-ROM contains updated versions of all the products. If you are installing your new product from this CD-ROM, you can also update any other DB2 or DDCS product currently installed. Alternatively, you can contact IBM Service to obtain the DB2 V2.1.2 or DDCS V2.3.2 service refresh for other products already installed. Migrating from the DB2 V2.1.0 Products -------------------------------------- The following points apply to the workstations that have installed one of the following products: IBM DB2 for Windows NT Server V2.1.0 IBM DB2 for Windows NT Single-User V2.1.0 and they have created databases with these code levels. o It is strongly recommended that you perform an optional migration on any of your databases that were created by the V2.1.0 database manager, in order to give your applications access to the new scalar functions that have been implemented in V2.1.1 or V2.1.2. o DBADM authority is granted implicitly by DB2 when a SYSADM user creates a view or package that requires DBADM authority. However, if such a user is later removed from the SYSADM group, their DBADM authority will also be removed. Therefore, any users with DBADM authority who do not belong to the SYSADM group must have been explicitly granted DBADM access. o It is recommended that you use the runstats utility to update the index statistics for your tables. Books ------ Books are available in PostScript and on-line format in the following locations: :\BOOKS\\PS (PostScript format) :\BOOKS\\INF (INF format) where is your CD-ROM drive letter represents the language directory. The PostScript files are in self-extracting executables. When run, these executables will create a PS file in the current directory. Make sure the current directory is one for which you have write access and that has sufficient space for the PS file. For example, to extract the English Installing and Using Windows NT & 95 Clients guide from the CD-ROM drive (F:): [F:\]c: [C:\]F:\WIN32\I386\en\SQLJ6E03 Once you have extracted the PostScript book, a .PS file will be created. To print a file execute: [C:\]print SQLJ6E03.PS Viewing On-line Books --------------------- To view the on-line books on Intel : cd :\BOOKS\\INF iview To view the on-line books on Power PC : cd :\BOOKS\\INF xview Release Notes ------------- Additional information that you may require can be found in the "DB2 Release Notes" or "DDCS Release Notes". Read this information by viewing or printing the "README.TXT" or "DDCSREAD.TXT" files. One or both of these files are located in the SQLLIB directory where you installed DB2. ------------------------------------------------------------------- * are trademarks or registered trademarks of IBM Corporation. ** are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. ------------------------------------------------------------------- *********************************************************************** ** ** ** ** ** (c) COPYRIGHT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION 1995. ** ** ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ** ** ** ***********************************************************************
