DB2 Client Application Enabler for Windows 95 and Windows NT V2.1.2 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation Instructions for Diskette Version ---------------------------------------------- If you created diskettes from the CD-ROM or have the diskette version of the product, simply enter the following command on a command line: :\SETUP.EXE where is your diskette drive. Installation Instructions for CD-ROM Version -------------------------------------------- Simply enter the following command on a command line: :\WIN32\\DISK1\SETUP.EXE where is your CD-ROM drive letter and is a two letter language directory (see the CD-ROM booklet for the list of available languages). Installation on Windows NT 3.5.0 -------------------------------- The graphical tools provided with DB2 for Windows NT require Windows NT 3.5.1 or later. This includes the Administrator's Toolkit, the Client Setup Utility and the DB2 ODBC Administrator. As a result, when you install on a Windows NT 3.5.0 system, these tools will NOT be installed. If you choose to install ODBC support, a separate DLL named DB20DBC.350 is copied to the miscellaneous directory (\misc) in the install path, e.g. c:\sqllib\misc. You must use the Microsoft ODBC administrator provided in the control panel to register DB2 data sources. Before you can use the Microsoft ODBC administrator, you must FIRST copy DB20DBC.350 to the SYSTEM32 directory in the Windows NT system directory, e.g. c:\winnt35\system32 AND rename it to DB20DBC.DLL (replacing the existing version of that DLL created during the install). Handling File Copy Errors ------------------------- Setup attempts to replace certain files in the Windows system directory, if the current versions of these files are lower than that required by DB2. However, if a file is currently in use by another application or service, Setup will be unable to replace it. Setup logs the error message returned by the operating system during the failed copy operation and notifies the user that an error has occurred. To remedy this situation: o Shut down any other running applications. o Stop any services that are running. o Run Setup again. Out of Memory Message --------------------- If you get a message that you have run out of memory during insatllation, it may mean that a file is locked and cannot be replaced. To get past this problem, stop the application that is using the file and retry installing the product. this is the same problme as discussed in "Handling Files Copy Errors" above. Books on CD-ROM --------------- Books are available in both PostScript format and on-line format in the following locations: :\WIN32\\\PS (for PostScript files) :\WIN32\\\INF (for INF files) where is your CD-ROM drive letter is I386 (Intel) or PPC (Power PC) represents the language directory The PostScript files are in self-extracting executables. When run, these executables will create a PS file in the current directory. Make sure the current directory is one for which you have write access and that has sufficient space for the PS file. For example, to extract the English Installing and Using Windows NT & 95 Clients guide from the CD-ROM drive (F:): [F:\]c: [C:\]F:\WIN32\I386\en\SQLJ6E03 Once you have extracted the PostScript book, a .PS file will be created. To print a file execute: [C:\]print SQLJ6E03.PS Viewing on-line books --------------------- To view the on-line books on Intel : cd :\WIN32\I386\ iview To view the on-line books on Power PC : cd :\WIN32\PPC\ xview Release Notes ------------- Additional information that you may require can be found in the "DB2 Release Notes" or "DDCS Release Notes". Read this information by viewing or printing the "README.TXT" or "DDCSREAD.TXT" files. One or both of these files are located in the SQLLIB directory where you installed DB2. ------------------------------------------------------------------- * are trademarks or registered trademarks of IBM Corporation. ** are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. ------------------------------------------------------------------- *********************************************************************** ** ** ** (c) COPYRIGHT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION 1995. ** ** ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. ** ** ** ***********************************************************************
