have read the entire contents of this readme. * You must have DB2 Version 8 installed at the level lower than DB2 Version 8.1.2 before installing. To determine the version and level of the currently installed DB2 product, type the regedit command from a command prompt and check the following values under the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\\CurrentVersion\Version HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\\CurrentVersion\Release HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\\CurrentVersion\Modification The values should be the following: * Version "8" * Release "1" * Modification "x" where x should be smaller than the level of the DB2 Version 8.1.2. The values for Version, Release, and Modification correspond to the first three numbers of the VRMF number. The value for Modification in the registry for the currently installed product should be less than the third number of the VRMF number for DB2 Version 8.1.2. 1g) Prior to installation * Stop all instances and applications that are using DB2 Version 8 on the system. * When upgrading or uninstalling DB2 product(s) on a Windows NT system, it is recommended that you manually shut down all DB2 services and processes on your computer. * Verify that you have enough space to install the FixPak or the modification level. You will need 2x the size of the update.exe file. 1h) Installing DB2 Version 8.1.2 Restrictions Once you have installed DB2 Version 8.1.2, you cannot uninstall it. Procedure To install the DB2 Version 8.1.2: 1. Ensure that all DB2 processes have been stopped. To stop all database activity, issue the commands: db2stop db2admin stop 2. Ensure that all DB2 services have been stopped. Use the services control panel applet to stop these services. 3. Change to the directory in which the DB2 Version 8.1.2 image is located. 4. Click update.exe to launch the DB2 Setup wizard. 5. Click Update to launch the installation. 1i) Installing DB2 Version 8.1.2 in silent mode To install DB2 Version 8.1.2 in silent mode, you will need to run the install with a response file. Command line options: update.exe -s -f x:\dir -a -u e:\fixpak.rsp -t c:\fixpak.trc -l c:\fixpak.log where: -s Make the extraction of DB2 Version 8.1.2 silent. -f x:\dir Used to uncompress DB2 Version 8.1.2 to a directory other than c:\temp where x:\ is a drive with enough space and x:\dir is the directory to be used. -a Required to pass further parameters to the installation. -u fixpak The response file used to control the installation. -t trace_file The location of the trace file used when capturing detailed diagnostic information. -l log_file This will be the log for the installation. Default is My Documents\db2wi.log 1i.i) Sample response file for DB2 Version 8.1.2 * Sample response file for IBM DB2 Version 8.1.2 * --------------------------------------- * * Comments are made by placing either a * or a # at the start of a line, or by * placing ** or ## after the start of a line to comment out the rest of that * line. * ============================================================================ * Product Installation * -------------------- PROD = FIXPAK *REBOOT = YES or NO (default=NO) *KILL_PROCESSES = YES or NO (default=NO) *INSTALL_ONLY = YES or NO (default=YES) * During the installation of a fixpak or modification level if the installation is * corrupted then the installer will require the location of the files needed to fix the * installation. This keyword should point to the location of the MSI file used to * install the product. This is located in the db2\windows directory on the original * installation media. If the installation image is in the original location where the * product was installed from, then this keyword is not required. * For example: \\ServerName\db2_v81_rtcl\db2\windows * -------------------------------------- *SOURCE_MSI_LOCATION=char(260) * Global DB2 Registry Variables * ----------------------------- *DB2ACCOUNT = BLANK or char(199) *DB2ATLD_PORTS = BLANK or 1-65535:1-65535 *DB2ATLD_PWFILE = BLANK or char() *DB2BIDI = BLANK, YES or NO *DB2BQTIME = BLANK or 1 - For example, it is possible if your DB2 environment is already using a particular level and you want to install an extra product in the same DB2 environment using your delivered CD media at an earlier level. This is possible by creating an administrative installation image from the delivered CD media and then applying DB2 Version 8.1.2 to that image before installation. For example, consider the following scenario: 1. You install the DB2 Run-Time client using your release level media. 2. You then apply DB2 Version 8.1.2. 3. You then decide that you need to install DB2 Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) using your release level media. By patching in the administrative installation image produced from your release level media, it is possible to have ESE installed at the DB2 Version 8.1.2 code level, thereby reducing the potential for problems that may occur by having ESE running at a different code level. The primary difference between the normal installation image and an administrative installation image is that in an administrative installation image the files have been uncompressed from the cab files that are distributed with the normal installation image. In the case of the documentation CD, all of the files have been combined in the same location from all of the documentation CDs. Essentially, the documentation electronic image is already operating as an administrative installation image. To patch in an administrative installation image using Microsoft Windows Installer, complete the following: 1. Create the image by using the following Microsoft command: msiexec /a "msi_file_name" For example: msiexec /a "DB2 Enterprise Server Edition.msi" 2. Follow the prompts. 3. Apply the patch to the administrative installation image. You must specify the location of the MSI file to the DB2 Version 8.1.2 launcher by using a second -a parameter. The MSI files for each product image are located in the db2\windows directory, except for the DB2 documentation product image which is located at the root level. For example: update.exe -a -a "n:\db2\windows\db2 run-time client.msi" 4. Install the newly created image. 1k) After installation 1k.i) Re-binding bind files Due to the new bind (.bnd) files that have been shipped with DB2 Version 8.1.2, you will need to bind your DB2 utilities against all your databases after the installation. This step is necessary for the fixes in DB2 Version 8.1.2 to become effective. The binding procedure, which follows, only needs to be performed once per database. Re-binding to DB2 UDB databases After applying fixes, you must do the following: db2 terminate db2 CONNECT TO db2 BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@db2ubind.lst GRANT PUBLIC db2 BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@db2cli.lst GRANT PUBLIC db2 terminate where represents the name of a database to which the utilities should be bound and $DB2DIR represents the directory where you've installed DB2. db2ubind.lst and db2cli.lst contain lists of required bind files used by DB2 UDB Version 8.. Re-binding host databases If you are connecting to host databases, you will also need to bind the new bind files to the host. As above, use the DB2 Command Line Processor to connect to the host database, and then bind the utilities as follows: HOST COMMAND ===== =================================================================== MVS BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@ddcsmvs.lst BLOCKING ALL SQLERROR CONTINUE GRANT PUBLIC VM BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@ddcsvm.lst BLOCKING ALL SQLERROR CONTINUE GRANT PUBLIC VSE BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@ddcsvse.lst BLOCKING ALL SQLERROR CONTINUE GRANT PUBLIC OS400 BIND $DB2DIR\BND\@ddcs400.lst BLOCKING ALL SQLERROR CONTINUE GRANT PUBLIC Re-binding specific packages If you want to bind only the specific .bnd files to the database, issue the following commands for each database. db2 terminate db2 CONNECT TO db2 BIND $DB2DIR\BND\ BLOCKING ALL GRANT PUBLIC sqlerror continue db2 terminate where represents the name of the bind file, and represents the name of your database. Bind db2schema.bnd to existing databases For DB2 Version 8.1.2 installations on the server, an additional bind file needs to be bound to existing databases. This requirement does not apply to clients. Procedure To bind db2schema.bnd on the server, execute these commands: At a command prompt: db2 terminate db2 CONNECT TO db2 BIND $DB2DIR\BND\db2schema.bnd BLOCKING ALL GRANT PUBLIC sqlerror continue db2 terminate or, At the DB2 command line: TERMINATE CONNECT TO BIND $DB2DIR\BND\db2schema.bnd BLOCKING ALL GRANT PUBLIC sqlerror continue TERMINATE where represents the name of a database to which the utilities should be bound and and $DB2DIR represents the directory where you've installed DB2. 1l) Known problems and workarounds 1l.i) DB2 Version 8.1.2 and multiple DB2 products installed If you have multiple DB2 products installed, for example DB2 Enterprise Server Edition and Warehouse Manager, DB2 Version 8.1.2 will attempt to apply the fixes to all installed products. However, if instead you receive a reboot dialog and have multiple DB2 products installed, then reboot and apply DB2 Version 8.1.2 again to ensure that everything is updated properly. 1l.ii) DB2 Version 8.1.2 and non-English language support for GUI components using the update.exe command If you install DB2 Version 8.1.2 (using the update.exe command) on top of DB2 Version 8.1 with Graphical Administration Tools components installed with non-English languages, and this is the first time you have installed any components on top of DB2 Version 8.1, then to complete the installation you will be prompted for the source files for DB2 Version 8.1 (if it is not currently in the same directory as it was originally installed in). When you are prompted for the location of the MSI file please browse to the Version 8.1 media or network location where the application was originally installed from. This file is located in the db2\windows directory. If this Version 8.1 media exists, and is accessible from the same place as it originally was installed from, then the fixpak or modification level installation will automatically use this image and proceed without prompting. Note: During a silent installation use the SOURCE_MSI_LOCATION keyword described in the Sample Response file section to specify the location of the original installation image. 1l.iii) Applying a FixPak or a modification level for Data Links Manager on Windows To apply a fixpak or a modification level for Data Links Manager on Windows: 1. As the DB2 Data Links Manager Administrator (dlmadmin), bring down the DB2 Data Links Manager by stopping the DB2 Data Links Manager service: a. Select Start and select Settings->Control Panel->Services. b. Right click on the DB2 Data Links Manager service and select Stop. Ensure that there are no other DB2 processes remaining, by issuing a db2stop command for each instance. 2. Ensure that all DB2 services have been stopped. Use the services control panel applet to stop these services. 3. Install the fixpak or the modification level. 4. As the DB2 Data Links Manager Administrator, run the following commands to bring up the DB2 Data Links Manager: dlfm bind dlfm start Alternatively, the dlfm start command can be performed through the Windows Services GUI. 1l.iv) Updates to RESTORE DATABASE Command The following is an update to the RESTORE DATABASE command topic. You can restore database backups created in DB2 Version 8 32-bit Windows system to a DB2 Version 8 64-bit Windows system, or the reverse. Database backups created on AIX, HP, and Solaris Operating Environments, each in either DB2 Version 8 32-bit or 64-bit, may be restored on AIX, HP, and Solaris Operating Environments, each in either DB2 Version 8 32-bit or 64-bit. You can restore database backups created in DB2 Version 8 32-bit Linux (Intel) to a DB2 Version 8 64-bit Linux (Intel) platform, or the reverse. 1l.v) Migrating to DB2 Version 8 on Windows 64-bit This topic lists the steps for migrating your database to DB2 Version 8 on Windows 64-bit. Prerequisites * A 64-bit version of DB2 Version 8 must be installed on your 64-bit machine. * Ensure that your 32-bit Windows system is running DB2 Version 8. Procedure To migrate to DB2 Version 8 on Windows 64-bit: 1. Backup your DB2 Version 8 databases on your 32-bit Windows system. 2. Restore your DB2 Version 8 backup (created in step #1) on your 64-bit Windows system. 2) Notices IBM may not offer the products, services, or features discussed in this document in all countries.
