IBM BookManager BUILD for Windows * Version 2.2 Product Number: 5639-A74 Product Installation Instruction & Release Notes Welcome to IBM BookManager BUILD for Windows This README file contains information you need for installation, as well as information that was not available for our printed publications. This README file is divided into the following categories: - Product prerequisites - Installation - Important Information - Getting Help - Late-Breaking News & Hints PRODUCT PREREQUISITES --------------------- Before installing this product check to see that the following hardware and software resources are available:  Any system unit running Microsoft Windows NT V3.51 or higher, or Windows 95B or higher. A 486SX processor at 33MHZ or higher is recommended.  Display monitor  Any pointing device  One CD-ROM device  4MB of RAM in addition to that required by the operating system  5MB of hard-disk drive storage in addition to that required by the operating system  A temporary file space of 5x the size of the word processor file you are currently building is needed  A license of BookManager READ INSTALLING IBM BookManager BUILD for Windows -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the BookManager BUILD CD in your CD-ROM drive. 2. In Program Manager, select Run from the File menu. 3. Type the location you're installing from plus the word setup. For example, to install an English version of the product from a CD-ROM drive labeled g, type the following: g:\BuildW22\enu\setup 4. Select OK, and follow the online installation instructions. Note: If you are installing to NT version 4, or NT version 3.51 with the Windows 95 shell it may be neccessary to modify environment settings. If the product fails to start because it can not find help then do the following: 1. Open the "Control Panel" from "My Computer" 2. Open "System" to bring up the "System Properties" 3. Click on the "Environment" tab 4. In the "System Variables" section add or append "PATH" and "HELP": a. Variable: PATH Value: C:\Program Files\IBM\BookManager\BUILD\BIN; b. Variable: HELP Value: C:\Program Files\IBM\BookManager\BUILD\BIN; note: The Value should represent the path you installed BookManager BUILD plus the BIN directory. This is where the help files and executables are located. 5. Click OK, IBM BookManager for Windows should now start. However, the supported file formats are limited to: MET -- OS/2 Presentation Manager Metafile WPG -- Corel WordPerfect Graphics WMF -- Microsoft Windows Metafile BMP -- Microsoft Windows and OS/2 Bitmap DIB -- Microsoft Windows and OS/2 Device Independent Bitmaps PCT -- Apple MacIntosh 'PICT' format CGM -- Computer Graphics Metafile AIP -- Adobe Illustrator TIF -- TIFF (Tagged Information File Format) GIF -- Graphic Interchange Format XBM -- X windows Bitmap XPM -- X windows Presentation metafile XWD -- X windows 'Dump' JPG -- JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) FMV -- Adobe FrameMaker Vector Format PNG -- PNG file format Postscript files are not processed. However, support for Postscript files containing 'headers' in the above formats will be provided in the near future. Paragraph and List items inside table cells. List items and paragraphs inside table cells may not be aligned or formatted as the author intended. ref. Defect 1898. Bordered Paragraphs in Microsoft Word97. Microsoft Word97, when displaying a series of Bordered Paragraphs, will remove any borders shared in common by neighboring paragraphs. The result being that the group of paragraphs appear to have a single border. In common with WordPerfect, v0103enu does not remove any common borders, the result being that each paragraph has a border to it. ref. Defect 1886. Forced (hard) Page breaks are honored. Any 'Hard' page breaks that the author has introduced into the document, will be honored by v0103enu. The result being that any table containing a Hard-Page-Break, will be split into two tables. ref. Defect 1900. Complex tables incorrectly rendered. Tables containing cells that span rows or span columns are not correctly rendered. ref. Defect 1851. FrameMaker CrossRrefs with sophisticated formats not processed fully. FrameMaker 5.5.6 (and earlier versions) can include sophisticated format statements that permit selection of (for example) topic titles or page numbers or etc.etc, for inclusion in the cross reference statement. The current MIF filter only partially processes such cross-reference statements. The cross reference is included in the BOOK but some parts of the format statement will also appear as plain text. ref. Defect 1941 Index entries in non-English versions of Word97 are not recognised ref. Defect 1924 Non-breaking hyphens are not supported in Index entries ref. Defect 1929 Application Launch links must not be adjacent to a heading ref. Defect 1977 Word97 SR2, highlighted text will be 'turned off' by a soft return. ref. Defect 1925 Adobe FrameMaker, multi-level index entries (ie. those using ';' to separate the levels of an index entry) are not correctly processed. ref.
