This product allows AFP applications to format and print documents on the 300 dots-per-inch IBM LaserPrinter 4028 using printer resident fonts. The 4028 Font Metrics support the printer resident fonts which include both the fonts internal to the IBM LaserPrinter 4028 and the fonts provided on customer-purchased IBM font cards. This directory is used to install the 4028 Font Metrics supplied as optional features of Print Services Facility/VM (PSF/VM) 2.1.0. See Figure 2 on page 3 for the list of PSF/VM optional features that apply to this directory. This release of the PSF/VM 4028 Font Metrics provides bounded box format compatible with the VM operating system. The tape contains bounded box format for a VM environment and is installed using a combination of VMFPLC2 and an installation EXEC. NOTE: Font format terminology is as follows. Bounded box format is used as input to PSF/VM for printing on printers like the 3820, 3827, 3835, and 4028. See the Licensed Program Specification (G544-3706) for more information on formats and supported printers for these fonts. In this program directory, any reference made to IBM licensed programs is not intended to state or imply that only IBM's licensed programs may be used; any functionally equivalent program may be used instead. Fonts contain no programming interfaces intended for use by customers. This publication documents no programming interface for use by customers in writing programs that request fonts. PRINTING PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS _________________________________ If you are using Document Composition Facility, then 5748-XX9 DCF 1.4.0 or later is required. In addition, 4028 Font Metrics require PSF/VM version 2.1.0 (5684-141) or later. EXECUTION PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS __________________________________ See About Type: IBM's Technical Reference for IBM LaserPrinter 4028 Font Metrics, S544-3709 for the part number of an IBM font card that can be used for each coded font supplied with the 4028 Font Metrics. Pre-Installation Information 6 ¤ INSTALLATION PROCEDURE ______________________ INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRE-INSTALLATION PLANNING __________________________________________ ù Ensure that you have tape PSF.4028METR.VMB1 (see Figure 2 on page 3). ù Ensure that you have enough space on the disk you intend to use (see Figure 4 on page 5). ù The 4028 Font Metrics in bounded box format are ready for use on the system font library disk. ù Note that files installed with 4028 Font Metrics will replace existing files having the same names. See "Pre-Installation Information" on page 5 for more detail. ù If you are installing 4028 Font Metrics first and then the remainder of PSF/VM, ensure your VM environment satisfies the requirements identified in the Installation Requirements section of the PSF/VM program directory. The 4028 Font Metrics have no additional hardware, software, or virtual machine requirements beyond those specified in that directory. INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS ___________________________ The installation of the PSF/VM fonts can be performed in the following ways: ù The I5684141 EXEC can be invoked by the VM INSTFPP EXEC. ù The I5684141 EXEC can be run stand-alone by following the procedure below. The I5684141 EXEC protects the contents of the A-disk, of the installing virtual machine. If the A-disk is not empty, this EXEC releases, but does not detach, the A-disk. A temporary disk is then defined, formatted, and accessed as 'A', to be used as a work disk. When this EXEC is complete, it releases and detaches the temporary disk, then re-access the original A-disk as 'A'. Installation Procedure 7 ¤ The only disks that this EXEC formats are ù the temporary disk it defines. ù linked, but not previously formatted disks, after a response of 'YES' is entered in reply to a prompt. Starting out with a clean A-disk will prevent the loss of temporary files built during installation. In the event of an abnormal exit, these files, may be useful for problem determination. STAND-ALONE INVOCATION OF THE INSTALLATION EXEC _______________________________________________ 1. Determine the size of disk you will require for 4028 Font Metrics. Have that disk defined to the system and made available to the virtual machine used for the installation. 2. Logon to a virtual machine. The example in step 10 assumes userid PSFMAINT. 3. Spool the console commands to provide a copy of the interactions on your virtual reader. SPOOL CONSOLE START * 4. Access the font disk in read/write mode. Suggested commands are: LINK fontdisk xxx yyy MR pword ACCESS yyy mode ù fontdisk xxx identifies the disk to be used for the installation (PSF suggested values are PSFMAINT 194) ù yyy is the virtual address that will be used (example below assumes 194) ù pword is the multi password ù mode is an available access mode (other than A, for example, F) 5. Define and format a temporary disk to contain the installation exec and memo during the installation. Suggested commands are: Installation Procedure 8 ¤ DEFINE Tnnnn zzz 5 FORMAT zzz mode ù Tnnnn is the disk type (for example, T3380) ù zzz is the virtual address that will be used (for example, 222) ù mode is an available access mode (other than A, example below assumes B) 6. Request that the operator attach a tape drive to your virtual machine at virtual address 181 and mount the distribution tape PSF.4028METR.VMB1. 7. Rewind the tape. The suggested command is: VMFPLC2 REW 8. Load the first two tape files. Following is a sample listing of those interactions for tape PSF.4028METR.VMB1: vmfplc2 load * * b (eof 2 LOADING.....
