SOURCE: BLD FLASH 9636 SOURCE MATERIAL DATED: 8/96 ¦ EARLY AVAILABILITY: AFP* UPLOAD FOR AIX* TCP/IP SUPPORT TCP/IP support for the AFP Upload for AIX feature of PSF*/MVS V2.2, ori- ginally scheduled to GA September 27, 1996, is available immediately. The AFP Upload for AIX Feature of PSF/MVS Version 2.2 allows you to print the following kinds of LAN-generated data through PSF for AIX V2.1 and its asso- ciated transforms to a PSF/MVS-attached printer: o MO:DCA-P* o PCL** o PostScript** o ditroff o DBCS ASCII or EUC o Line data that has been processed by the line2afp transform or the Advanced Function Conversion and Indexing Facility (ACIF) o SAP** R/3** OTF or ABAP Listing (through the optional OTF transform feature of PSF for AIX V2.1) With the early availability of TCP/IP support, customers can now choose the host connectivity protocol, either SNA or TCP/IP, that best meets their re- quirements. The AFP Upload for AIX feature may be ordered via MES for installed users of PSF/MVS Version 2.2 (5795-040). Please see announcement letter 296-207 for complete ordering information. PSF for AIX V2.1 (5765-505) is also required. In addition, the following APARs will be required for the TCP/IP support (PTF numbers current as of August 9, 1996) o PSF/MVS: APAR OW21017 (PTF UW30822) o PSF for AIX: APAR IX59972 (PTF U445160) Both are available for immediate order through normal support channels. The publication "AFP Upload Configuration Guide Using TCP/IP" is available from the PENPUBS disk (UPLDTCP TERS3820), as is the corresponding guide for SNA (UPLDSNA TERS3820). These publications are not yet orderable through PUBORDER. IMPORTANT: Please note that the output from the PCL and PostScript transforms in PSF for AIX is MO:DCA-P image. For optimal performance of these datastreams through AFP Upload, it is strongly recommended that the MVS-attached printers support compressed image (IOCA). While the PCL and PostScript transforms are capable of producing uncompressed image, the larger file sizes may reduce printer throughput and will increase network traffic. For information on AFP printer support of IOCA image see "AFP Printer Sum- mary" (G544-3135) or "AFP Printer Information" (G544-3290) available on the PENPUBS TOOLS disk. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- * The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: AFP, AIX, MO:DCA, PSF.
