                NEW FUNCTION ADDED TO PSF* FOR AIX* VERSION 2.1
                              (February 23, 1996)

 New  functions and performance enhancements have been added to Print Services
 Facility* for AIX* (PSF* for AIX*) Version 2 Release 1 (5765-505) through two
 APARs.

 1.  Full support for PSF* for AIX* V2.1 under AIX* Version 4 (including chan-
     nel  attachment  of  selected  IPDS*  printers  to  the  S/370*   Channel
     Emulator/A adapter) is included in APAR IX55228, available immediately.

         NOTES:

         a.  You  MUST  shutdown and restart your AIX* system after installing
             this PTF.  After the AIX* system restarts, you MUST use  SMIT  to
             re-load the channel device drivers.
         b.  The  limitation  of  one  channel printer per adapter is still in
             force.
         c.  This device driver is for IBM* IPDS* printers only; it  does  not
             provide  support  for  channel-attached  tapes  under AIX* 4.1.x.
             Only the following IBM* IPDS* printers are supported: 3825, 3827,
             3828, 3829, 3831, 3835, and 3900-001 printers.
         d.  The S/370* Channel Emulator/A adapter is not  yet  available  for
             configuration  through  HONE  for  systems  configured  with AIX*
             4.1.x.  However, you may obtain the adapter as an RPQ against the
             printer.  See HONE RPQ 8B3927 for additional information.

         You may contact your normal support channels  to  obtain  the  latest
         Program  Temporary  Fix  (PTF)  for  APAR IX55228; the current PTF is
         U441774 as of February 21, 1996.

 2.  Improved performance of the PostScript** Level 2 transform  in  PSF*  for
     AIX* V2.1 is included in APAR IX55200, available immediately.  Interested
     customers  may  obtain the PTF for APAR IX55200 through their normal sup-
     port channels; the current PTF is U441107, as of February 21, 1996.

 3.  Cumulative maintenance from various APARs may be obtained in  the  latest
     PTFs  for the various PSF* for AIX* components.  As of February 23, 1996,
     the current PTFs and the components they affect include:

     o   U439054:  psf.pcl
     o   U441107:  psf.ps
     o   U441292:  psf.man
     o   U441774:  psf.base, psf.dbcs, psf.ditroff.transform, psf.exits,
                   psf.online.books, psf.utils
     o   UN80749:  psf.ppfa
     o   UN87170:  psf.acif

 Interested customers may obtain these PTFs through their normal support chan-
 nels.    PTFs  for  PSF*  for AIX* Version 2.1 are now also available through
 FixDist.
