This feature allows SAP R/3 output to be printed on PSF* supported printers. (See HONE letter 295-287.) SAP AG, headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, is one of the largest independent software companies in the world and is the market leader in standard business software applications. The popular SAP R/3 business applications are client/server based, running on the UNIX platform, including IBM's AIX. Many SAP R/3 customers have a requirement for high-volume printing at speeds of up to 200 pages per minute or higher. However, typical SAP R/3 workstation-supported printers offer speeds of only 20 to 30 pages per min- ute. Using IBM Print Services Facility for AIX and the SAP to AFPDS trans- form priced feature, the SAP R/3 user can access a wide variety of system and network attached printers that support their high-volume printing needs. Benefits to the SAP R/3 user include: o The capability to add electronic overlays to page layouts that may in- clude company logos, signatures and images o Printing at speeds from 12 to over 400 impressions per minute o A MICR check printing solution using IBM MICR printers o Integrity of printed output via PSF for AIX page level error recovery o The ability to share printers between host and LAN applications o An architected base that allows for printing, archiving, viewing and transporting to other IBM platforms For current copies of PSF for AIX documentation on printing from SAP R/3, ac- cess the PENPUBS tools disk under the name SAP2AFP LIST3820. ------------------- The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM, Print Services Facility, and AIX.
