BLD FLASH 9515 SOURCE MATERIAL DATED: 4/95 ¦ PSF/6000: S/370 CHANNEL EMULATOR/A ADAPTER Attachment of more than one printer per the S/370 Channel Emulator/A adapter card from PSF/6000 is NOT RECOMMENDED. Contrary to the sales manual descrip- tion which indicates up to four printers per card may be attached, only ONE printer per S/370 Channel Emulator/A adapter card will function satis- factorily. In-lab testing and customer experience has exposed an architectural re- striction which renders multiple printers per card impractical. Other fac- tors such as card design, card availability, performance, device driver design, RISC hardware directions, and emergence of TCP/IP attachments indi- cate this solution is non-strategic. While the 370 Channel is the premier attachment for mainframe systems, it is not true in the RISC/AIX environment. TCP/IP is the natural, preferred, and recommended attachment in AIX systems. Newer AFCCU printers have TCP/IP attachment capabilities. This action affects the following printers which can only be attached via channel to PSF/6000. These printers may still be attached one per S/370 Channel Emulator/A adapter card. o IBM 3825 o IBM 3827 o IBM 3828 o IBM 3829 o IBM 3835 o IBM 3900-1 $EOM
