The following terminology is used: ÿ ÿ ¯ Driving system: the system used to install the program. ÿ ÿ ¯ Target system: the system on which the program is installed. ÿ ÿ In many cases, the same system can be used as both a driving system ÿ and a target system. However, you may want to set up a clone of your ÿ system to use as a target system by making a separate IPL-able copy of ÿ the running system. The clone should include copies of all system ÿ libraries that SMP/E updates, copies of the SMP/E CSI data sets that ÿ describe the system libraries, and your PARMLIB and PROCLIB. ÿ ÿ Some cases where two systems should be used include the following: ÿ ÿ ¯ When installing a new level of a product that is already ÿ installed, the new product will delete the old one. By installing ÿ onto a separate target system, you can test the new product while ÿ still keeping the old one in production. ÿ ÿ ¯ When installing a product that shares libraries or load modules ÿ with other products, the installation can disrupt the other ÿ products. Installing onto a test system or clone will allow you ÿ to assess these impacts without disrupting your production system. ÿ ÿ 5.1 DRIVING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ÿ ÿ This section describes the environment of the driving system required ÿ to install OGL/370. ÿ ÿ 5.1.1 MACHINE REQUIREMENTS ÿ ÿ The driving system can run in any hardware environment that supports ÿ the required software. ÿ ÿ 5.1.2 PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS ÿ ÿ ¬ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ¼ ÿ » Figure 8. The data set sizes specified contain 15% extra space. You may ÿ wish to revise these numbers based on your plans for adding ÿ additional function or service. ÿ ÿ 2. IBM recommends use of system determined blocksizes for efficient ÿ DASD utilization for all non-RECFM U data sets. For RECFM U data ÿ sets, IBM recommends a blocksize of 32760, which is the most ÿ efficient from a performance and DASD utilization perspective. ÿ ÿ If you choose not to use system determined blocksizes, use the ÿ blocksizes and numbers of blocks specified to allocate the data ÿ sets. Data sets can be reblocked to a larger size. Please note ÿ that the maximum allowable blocksize will depend on the type of ÿ DASD on which the dataset will reside; for example, the blocksize ÿ of datasets on a 3350 DASD cannot exceed 19,069. ÿ ÿ 3. Abbreviations used for the data set type are: ÿ ÿ U Unique data set used by only the FMIDs listed. In order to ÿ determine the correct storage needed for this data set, this ÿ table provides all required information; no other tables (or ÿ program directories) need to be referenced for the data set ÿ size. ÿ S Shared data set used by more than the FMIDs listed. In order ÿ to determine the correct storage needed for this data set, ÿ the storage size given in this table needs to be added to ÿ other tables (perhaps in other program directories). If the ÿ data set already exists, it must have enough free space to ÿ accommodate the storage size given in this table. ÿ ÿ If you currently have a previous release of this product installed ÿ in these libraries, the installation of this release will delete ÿ the old one and reclaim the space used by the old release and any ÿ service that had been installed. You can determine whether or not ÿ these libraries have enough space by deleting the old release with ÿ a dummy function, compressing the libraries, and comparing the ÿ space requirements with the free space in the libraries. ÿ ÿ For more information on the names and sizes of the required data ÿ sets, please refer to 6.1.8, "Allocate SMP/E Target and ÿ Distribution Libraries" on page 18. ÿ ÿ The following figures list the target and distribution libraries (data ÿ sets) and their attributes required to install OGL/370.
