Why do some tags require the content on 1 line?

Why do some tags require the tag content to be on a single line?

Answer

  Working as designed. It was thought a single line of text would be
  sufficient for certain tags.

  A figure in Chap 2 of GML Ref shows the tags which require the text to
  appear on a single line.

  Whenever you see a tag syntax diagram like this:

  +--------+-------------------------------------+----------------+
  |:TAG    |                                     |.resid text     |
  +--------+-------------------------------------+----------------+

  It indicates the tag expects the text to be either on the same line with
  the tag or the line immediately following the tag.
