Why MSG 538 PSEG...INVALID DATA on AFP Driver psegs?

Question

Why do I sometimes get msg 538 PAGE SEGMENT CONTAINS INVALID DATA when I upload and use psegs from the AFP OS/2 or Windows driver?

Answer

You get this message when the pseg has a rotation of other than
0,90 (portrait) in the IOC record for IM1 raster image or
the OBP record for IOCA image. The driver creates image at rotations
other than 0,90 and DCF won't accept it. It's an old restriction.

  How to get around it?
Version 1.04 of the Pennant AFP Printer Driver for Windows
  (June,1994) and V1.14 (licensed version)
contains a fix so IM1 (uncompressed) image
will always be written out at rotation 0,90.
All versions of both the Pennant AFP PM Printer Driver for OS/2 and
the IBM AFPDS Printer Driver for OS/2 rotate ALL of their output to
  print at rotation 0,90.

The easiest thing to do is recreate your pseg with the newer
versions of the driver or an OS/2 driver to work around
  the DCF restriction.
