Sometimes when I have example text in columns that I align with the space character, the printed output is not aligned correctly.
This happens when you format with different fonts than those you use to print (or view) a document. When you format and print with 240 pel fonts on a 240 pel printer, your output is fine. When you format and print with 300 pel fonts on a 300 pel printer, your output is fine. But if you format with one set of fonts and print (or view) with another, two things can happen: 1. sometimes your example text won't line up because of font metric differences. 2. right-justified text on a long line length could be off by a few pels on some devices. If you format for DEV(AFPA) the same LIST3820 file should yield acceptable output on both a 240 pel printer and 300 pel printer. If you are using Bookmaster: The 240 pel & 300 pel versions of the Bookmaster Gothic fonts were created from different sources and had slightly different metrics. If you format with one version and print with the other, text or character rules in an example will sometimes be misaligned. Bookie apar PN44775 (Fix level 25) provided new Bookmaster fonts (Bookmaster Latin1) which are derived from a common set of metrics. These also ship with the the AFP Font Collection (5648-113). However, Bookie still picks Bookmaster Gothic as the default example font. Invocation option @BOOKFNT(3) will force Bookie to use Bookmaster Latin1 if it is available in the fontlib. Bookie option @COREFNT(YES) forces Bookie to format with the AFP core interchange font set which has common metrics across technologies. Katie Huxford, Boulder
