I have some customers who are getting a SCRIPT failure when creating output for STAIRS... it seems to happen only when they do it on a disconnected machine, but not always. The error message is: FORMATTING ENDED BY MESSAGE 'DEVICE ERROR ON PRINTED OUTPUT.'.
If they are not specifically routing output to file they could be going down the TERM option path and when disconnected he can't write to the virtual device. TERM is the CMS default. Try adding the FILE option and perhaps some appropriate CTF option to be sure they control the output destination. You get the 306 msg when script has any number of problems setting up for or talking to a printer (PRINT option) or virtual console (TERM option) Katie Huxford, Boulder
