Overview

The IBM Explorer for z/OS® Version 2.1.0 is an Eclipse-based tool that provides a framework to manage your system connections, and provide access to System z/OS functions.

Downloading the z/OS Explorer

You must use IBM Installation Manager to install z/OS Explorer. For more information about installing z/OS Explorer by using Installation Manager, see Installing the CICS Explorer in the CICS® TS information center.

To install z/OS Explorer by using the Installation Manager launchpad, download the z/OS Explorer Installation Manager compressed file from the download page. Unpack the file into an empty folder, then open the disk1 folder.
  • If you have administrator access, double-click the launchpad executable file that is applicable to your operating system. Follow the prompts to install Installation Manager and z/OS Explorer.
  • If you do not have administrator access, locate the userinst executable file in the InstallationManager folder and subdirectory appropriate for your operating system. This userinst executable file enables a non-administrative user to install Installation Manager and z/OS Explorer.

To install z/OS Explorer by using an existing copy of Installation Manager, you must add the URL for the composite update site to the Installation Manager Preferences - Repositories page. The CICS Explorer download page contains the URL for the composite update site. Click the Install option in the Installation Manager wizard, and follow the prompts to install z/OS Explorer, or the CICS Explorer SDK.

Launching the z/OS Explorer

To launch the z/OS Explorer:
  • Windows: Click the zOS Explorer icon in the Start menu for your operating system.
  • Linux: Start zOS Explorer from your launcher.

Alternatively, on Windows, locate and double-click the file eclipse.exe in the location you specified to install z/OS Explorer.

Getting started

The z/OS Explorer help documentation is integrated with the product and includes instructions to configure a connection and use the z/OS features. To display thez/OS Explorer help, use one of the following methods:
  • From the welcome screen, click the Tutorials icon. The icon names are displayed when you hover over them.
  • From the main menu bar, click:Help > Help Contents > z/OS Explorer User Guide.
