What's new in this release?

CICS® IA Version 5.1 plug-in is a refresh for compatibility with CICS Explorer® Version 5.1

There are several key enhancements for CICS IA V5.1 plug-in:
  • You can now select an application for the User command flow.
  • The list of resource types in the Query editor now includes Application name; Application Version (Major, Minor and Micro); and Operation. These new types are also listed in the "Customize Columns" menu of the "Command Flow" view.
  • You can now delete data associated with a TS application name and version directly from the application folder.
  • A new option on the context menu in the Programs view means you can open the Program Editor by simply right clicking the Program name in the Programs view. There is no need to change to the SM perspective.
  • You can now run threadsafe reports and see the results in Explorer.
  • The Applications view is updated to include two new folders:
    • IA applications: List of legacy IA Applications used prior to 5.1.
    • TS Applications: List of Applications defined in CICS TS 5.1 and picked up by IA 5.1 collector.
  • The context menu in the Programs view has new menu options Used by Region and Used by Application.
  • The context menu in the Transactions view has new menu options Used by Region and Used by Application.
  • View program and transaction resources as a list or graphically.
  • Improved management of system connections and user credentials
  • Connections between CICS IA and CICS servers can now use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for increased security.
  • CICS IA plug-ins can now be managed from a single composite update site. See the Explorer documentation for more information.
  • The application name is included when collecting dependency and command flow data. This lets you analyze and manage your new CICS TS applications more easily.
  • Initial deployment of the product is simplified and data management is improved.

Downloading and installing the CICS IA plug-in

To download the CICS IA plug-in from the download web site:
  1. Click the CICS IA plug-in download link
  2. Save the compressed file in a temporary directory. Do NOT extract the file. The CICS Explorer extracts the contents automatically.

To install the CICS IA plug-in in the CICS Explorer:

  1. Start the CICS Explorer.
  2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Install New Software in the menu. The Available Software window is displayed.
  3. Click Add. The Add Repository archive dialog box is displayed.
  4. Click Archive. The Repository archive dialog box is displayed.
  5. Locate and select the CICS IA plug-in compressed file you downloaded previously, and click Open.
  6. Click OK in the Add Repository dialog. The dialog closes.
  7. Click the Select All button and click Next.
  8. In the Install dialog box, click Next to confirm the installation.
  9. Review the license and click the relevant radio button. Click Finish to complete the installation, or Cancel if you do not accept the license.

If you accepted the license, the CICS IA plug-in is installed into the CICS Explorer. You are prompted to restart the CICS Explorer. This ensures that the plug-in starts in a clean environment.

If you see the message "Duplicate location" during step 6, that can mean one of two things:
  1. If this is the first time you have attempted to install this plug-in in CICS Explorer 5.1, the message suggests that you did not install CICS Explorer in an empty directory, and some residual information remains from a previous installation. If this is the case, you should re-install CICS Explorer in a clean directory.
  2. You have previously installed, or prepared to install, the plug-in at this location, and CICS Explorer has saved the location details. If this is the case, cancel the Add Repository dialog. In the Available Software view, click the Work with twistie and select the location containing the plug-in you want to install, then continue with the next step.
