Starting File Manager® Base Editor

You can browse or edit various z/OS® resources using the File Manager® Base editor. The editor is invoked from the Systems View, which is provided by File Manager® plug-in. You can invoke the editor against a selected z/OS® resource through one of the following methods:

When the editor is invoked using one of the methods above, the editor's option dialog is displayed. In this dialog, you can specify various options which control how the editor is invoked. The main options are described below (refer to File Manager® for z/OS® Base manual for full explanation of available options).

Based on the options specified in the dialog, the File Manager® editor will be invoked against the selected resource. The initial mode of the File Manager® editor depends on whether a copybook or template was specified. If a copybook or template was specified, then the editor is invoked in Formatted Mode; otherwise, the editor is invoked in Character Mode.

When user clicks New Dynamic Template icon from Base Editor option, the New Dynamic Template dialog will open. It asks user to enter the New Dynamic Template name and submit the dialog allows user to open the Dynamic template editor dialog.

Note: The Dynamic Template is not saved until user clicks save option in the template editor dialog. User can make changes to the template and apply the temporary Dynamic template to your data.

When user create Dynamic Template with model template layout the Apply/RunTemp button will be enabled by default and user can apply the temporary template to the base editor.

In this case, user has to make changes in the new Dynamic template editor to enable Apply button.

Apply Temporary Dynamic Template to the base editor

After user clicks Apply button from Dynamic Template editor dialog, Editor option dialog will show with the new dynamic template name.

User can click either edit/view button in the editor option dialog, the formatted editor session will open with the applied temporary Dynamic template changes.

During the Formatted editor session, user can view/update the dynamic template from the Bottom navigation bar. The template editor will open with unsaved changes, and Apply button will be enabled for the entire Formatted edit session until user discards the changes. The template editor will open with unsaved changes and save warning pop-up will show when user tries to exit the template before saving it.

When user tries to close the Formatted editor session without saving Dynamic template, the warning pop-up will show to save temporary dynamic template changes.

If user clicks OK button, the template editor dialog will open and allow to save the temporary changes. Clicking cancel will discard the changes.
