What's new in this release?

Version 3.2.0.1 adds the following new function:

Statistics You can now access statistics from CICS systems that are running version 4.2.

Updating an existing version of CICS PA plug-in

If you already have the CICS PA plug-in installed you can use the CICS Explorer Software Updates function to update the code to the latest level, without having to reinstall the product. Before updating the CICS PA plug-in, you must update the CICS Explorer to the latest level. If you do not, CICS PA plug-in might not work with the old version of CICS Explorer.

Downloading and installing the CICS PA plug-in

To download the CICS PA plug-in from the download Web site:
  1. Click the CICS PA plug-in V3.2.0.1 download link.
  2. Save the compressed file in a temporary directory. Do NOT extract the file. The CICS Explorer extracts the contents automatically.
To install the CICS PA plug-in in the CICS Explorer:
  1. Launch the CICS Explorer.
  2. Click Help on the CICS Explorer menu bar and click Software Updates in the drop-down menu. The Software Updates and Add-ons window is displayed.
  3. Click the Available Software tab.
  4. Click the Add Site button and in the Add Site dialog click the Archive button. The Repository archive dialog box is displayed.
  5. Locate and select the CICS PA plug-in compressed file you downloaded previously, and click Open.
  6. Click OK in the Add Site dialog box. The dialog box closes and the tool is displayed in the Software Updates and Add-ons dialog box.
  7. Select the check box alongside the tool name.
  8. Click the Install button.
  9. In the Install dialog box, confirm the installation by clicking Next.
  10. Review the license and click the relevant radio button. Click Finish to complete the installation, or Cancel if you do not accept the license.
If you accepted the license, the CICS PA plug-in is installed into the CICS Explorer. You are prompted to restart the CICS Explorer to ensure that the plug-in starts in a clean environment.

Known issues and limitations

CICS PA plug-in runtime memory limitations:

Using csv files might cause OutOfMemory Exceptions when an inadequate Java heap size has been allocated. There is no hard rule to what needs to be allocated and many users might find that the default maximum heap size is perfectly sufficient. However it might be necessary in some circumstances to increase the value, following the examples below:

In a Windows or Linux command line, change the directory to the one where the cicsexplorer.exe (cicsexplorer on Linux) file is located. Start the CICS Explorer by typing the following command: cicsexplorer -vmargs -Xmx512m Alternatively, you can modify the cicsexplorer.ini file in the CICS _Explorer subdirectory to add the following information: -vmargs -Xms128m -Xmx512m then start the CICS Explorer as normal.
