This section describes the process of creating partitions. To create partitions, you must be classified by the HMC as a System Programmer. Follow these steps to create a partition:
1. Log in to the HMC by using your System programmer name and password.
2. Click on the partition management icon underneath the HMC hostname to select your preferred partition environment. The Contents area now lists the CECs available as managed systems. These systems are listed by default as "System A," System B," and so on. If you have only one CEC, the Contents area lists the CEC as "System A."
3. Select the Managed System for which you want to configure partitions. Do this by clicking once on the System.
4. Now you need to power on the Managed System. To power on the Managed System, be sure to have the System selected in the Contents area. Next, go to the menu and choose Selected.
5. Select "Power On."
6. Next, you must select a boot mode. Select boot in partition as a boot mode so that the CEC boots to partition standby mode. Clicking OK powers on the managed system so that you can create partitions.
7. Select the managed system and go to Create and then click on Partition.
8. Name the partition profile you are creating. Use a unique name for each partition you create.
9. Assign resources to the new partition profile. The system defaults to the minimum requiement for each resource; for example, the processor default is set to one. You must assign a minimun number of processor(s), memory, and I/O to each partition profile.
