Partition Standby ----------------- The Partition Standby power-on option allows you to begin creating and activating logical partitions. When the Partition Standby power-on is completed, the physical operator panel on the managed system displays LPAR..., indicating the managed system is ready for you to use the HMC to partition its resources. Full System Partition --------------------- The Full System Partition power-on option allows you to use all of the system~Rs resources on one operating system after the system has been powered on. This is the traditional one-system method of using your system~Rs resources. Power On Normal Profile ----------------------- This profile boots an operating system from the designated boot device. Power On Diagnostic Default Boot List ------------------------------------- This selection is similar to Power On Diagnostic Stored Boot List Profile, except the system boots using the default boot list that is stored in the system firmware. This is normally used to try to boot diagnostics from the CD-ROM drive. Using this option to boot the system is the preferred way to run standalone diagnostics. Power On Diagnostic Stored Boot List ------------------------------------ This selection causes the system to perform a service mode boot using the service mode boot list saved on the managed system. If the system boots AIX from the disk drive and AIX diagnostics are loaded on the disk drive, AIX boots to the diagnostics menu. Using this option to boot the system is the preferred way to run online diagnostics. Power on SMS Profile -------------------- This profile boots to the System Management Services (SMS) menus. The SMS menus include: 1. Password Utilities 2. Display Error Log 3. Remote Initial Program Load Setup 4. SCSI Utilities 5. Select Console 6. MultiBoot 7. Select Language 8. OK Prompt For more information about SMS menus, see the eServer pSeries 690 User~Rs Guide, order number SA38-0588. Power On Open Firmware OK Prompt -------------------------------- This option should only be used by service personnel to obtain additional debug information. When this selection is enabled, the system boots to the open firmware prompt. The physical operator panel on your managed system displays progress codes when you boot the system to this mode. To learn more about these options, see the service documentation for your managed system. System Profile -------------- The system profile powers on the system according to a predefined set of profiles. Note: The profiles are activated in the order they are shown in the system profile.
